You are a lifesaver Tamra! I have my gcse exams in a few weeks and even though I got a 5 on my English language many times I'm trying to push myself to get a 7 and I've realised that I haven't used most of the techniques and better wording in the exam which is possibly the reason why I got a 5 in my recent mocks. I'm going to use your tips and do past papers and hopefully I get a better grade! Thank you so much
You really are amazing Tamra, this was so so helpful. I'm in y11 right now and I got a 9 on my November Paper 1 mock thanks to you!! Watched this a few nights before the mock and took notes, seems like it really paid off :)
Got my english paper 1 language mock tomorrow and paper 2 in 2 days and i'm cooked honestly, feeling a little more confident after watching this, praying it helps me
Heyyy Tamra, thanks so much for the video :P honestly was so lost without this!!! I talked to my teacher about your tactic of pre-planning stories before hand and then tailoring them to the question. Could you possibly give a few ideas regarding that? i.e. what 3 types of story should I make up (happy story, sad story...) or maybe what 3 plots can I have that will make me best prepared for the question? Once again huge thanks !! :D
So glad the video helped :) This is where you can tailor the story to what you enjoy writing. I enjoyed writing thriller plots so my stories were all about a person regretting what they did, the story would slowly reveal what they did and why they feel guilty and then at the end, they accept what they did and realise it is not so bad. The realisation is the character development. Honestly, you can pick whatever genre you are into and then make 2 narratives and 1 description.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! It actually help me so much to understand what I have to do :) I'm not a native speaker so I'm struggling in English and I'm year 11 so I just have 6 months and its just about 1 month that I moved in Newcastle- So I'm panicking a lottt but thank you again🤍
Hii Tamra thank you for this vid it's so helpful as I got a grade 8 in my previous mocks but idk how to reach a 9 and my teachers never tell me what I'm missing to reach it they just say I'm close to a 9 which isn't helpful at all so I will try to push for that 9 for GCSE's this year! Please could you do these videos for Science and other subjects you did for GCSE's x
Keep at it! To secure a grade 9, see if you can identify which question you are losing the most marks, for example, I was never very good at the 20 marker so I worked on that. Look at the AQA model answers in the examiner report for the top level and try and see what they are looking for that you are missing. I will try and rush some videos for science and RE but can't make any promises as I have my own exams coming up too. I will do a live before the exams so any questions I haven't answered can be brought up :)
@@tamratips ok science would be super useful as I do that subject and bio is first and thank you for the advice! I understand that you have exams so it's okay if you can't do the other videos thanks for the help and good luck for your exams x
thank you!! also in one of your previous videos you mentioned how you looked at the past papers for the past 10 years. which website did you get them from?
Do you mean for maths? Probably Physics and Maths Tutor. But you can always search your board name, the paper and the year you want and it should come up.
@@tamratips okay, thanks :) i meant for other subjects but idk why i didn't even think about searching them up rather than just using the official website lmao
Practice doing past paper questions and timing yourself. Compare your answers with the AQA model answers from the examiner report of that year and see what you have missed. Then try and fill in your missing gaps in the next practice question you do.
How did you plan the description before the exam? I don't know how because the picture given to you could be very different every time so i was wondering if you could share the one you planned beforehand?
Hi, you will always need contrast in your story so you can practice describing two contrasting descriptions. The image given in the brief will always give you enough freedom to write anything as long as you relate it to the question in one part of your story. This is because there is no higher tier or lower tier so the exam has to be open to all levels. You can plan a description/plot and look at all the past paper questions for P1Q5 and practice adapting your story/description into the prompt given,

Is there any structure we should use in q2 e.g: what has the writer done + why + imply?
U know my teachers are lazy and wont mark my paper so would it be fine if i use the mark scheme to mark ?
Yes! The mark scheme also has some model answers for the text so you can compare their ideas with your ideas :)

Mark it with your teacher and see what mark it is. If it is the high marks then memorise it and adapt it to the question they give
Ok I will do that . But she mentioned not to memorise the story ??? I am confused
