Honestly I'd say they are the best apartment birds you could ever own. My favorite thing my Pionus does is runs under my bed and gets just out of my reach and says, "come on" over and over. The only negative my thing mine does is she will puke on my big toe if I'm not watching. I feel like she thinks it's her baby.
Mine is very active! A lot!!! And screams so loud (when He wants food or His brother is away)🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣 Is absolutely beautiful!! The colors are so unique! its with no doubt my favorite kind of parrot!
I’m thinking my girl is actually a boy! Got her sexed but she’s quite the talker and not gonna lie, not the quietest lol I love how she just wants to hang out, most affection i can give her is helping with her pin feathers. She’s shy with new people for sure and that’s when she’ll let you know how she’s feeling. But after years of research and waiting, I couldn’t have made a better choice of first bird! Love my girl
I've had a white cap named Gina for about ten years now, and I adore her - though she's definitely a one-person bird. She likes hanging out with me, and she actually really likes scritches, and often decides to groom the back of my head. Admittedly, she's at best aloof with almost everyone else though. She accepts my dad if need be, but despite my mother's best efforts, she's never warmed up to my mother. Gina sees her as competition for my attention I think, and she tries to take out the competition. Also really hated my poor aunt on sight, who I guess looks too much like my mother for Gina's liking. Pionus parrots also have this quirk where they make wheezing noises when they're excited or agitated, and it scares the ever-loving Hell out of you at first because it sounds like they're having an asthma attack or something. At my parents' place, she'll make occasional contact calls with the birds in the living room. She stays in my room when I visit, because the birds in the living room are dusty species and pionus parrots don't deal very well with dust. She also went through a phase where she'd wake me up in the morning by repeatedly flinging a metal toy against the side of her cage until I got up. Apart from that though, she's very quiet; she'd be fine in an apartment. She speaks a little bit, but as you say, her voice isn't very clear. Like many birds, one of her favourite games is the 'clam right up and don't make so much as a single peep, so that your person looks like an idiot after someone asks if you can talk and your person says yes' game. I travel a lot by car, and she's a great traveller; I never have to struggle to convince her to get into the travel cage. She does have a habit of killing time in the car by sharpening her claws, which isn't my favourite of her hobbies... This might be more of a Gina thing than a pionus thing, but even by parrot standards, she's extremely suspicious of any new foods. Took me a full year to get her to try an almond, and another year to try a piece of walnut. She surprised me by finally trying pasta/fruit/vegetables after like EIGHT YEARS! For years, she'd lean away from any new food I tried to give her, and she'd try to fool me into thinking she'd had a bite by making exaggerated chewing motions.
They are really good n really underrated😕 But White caps are really bossy birds, I had a supper tame white capped she was aggressive towards all women n girls but to any man she was tamest one in the world At my work place I saw a pair of white caps cornering 5 amazons 4 blue fronts n 1 red loard
If people were able to rent parrots for six months to see if they wanted to spend 50 years with them, 90% would end up with a nice species like this. Of course, that wouldn't be ethical to rent parrots, but it would probably result in fewer parrots being abandoned. The novelty of any exotic pet wears off very quickly. Good video!
Basically everything you mentioned about this bird ticks all the boxes of the kind of bird I'd love to have. Minus the higher cost of course lol. Hopefully they can gain more popularity like the conures and other more popular birds and become more available.

Coro, which Pionus should I buy? I can buy a white cap now and I'm on a list for a blue head, bronze wing, max and a dusky. I love the appearance of the blue head and the bronze wing but I love them all. The breeder told me it may take 5 years to get a bronze wing. @@Fivesaflock I chose a Pionus to be my first parrot (living in an apartment) and I'm happy I did. He's not all that quiet yet (not a big problem), but he already knows a few words, he just turned 1. I find the Pionus beautiful and kind. A great parrot.
@@Fivesaflock my Maximilian’s was in an enclosure next to a female eclectus at the aviary, and she was in a screamy mood. Max just kind of hung out there in the back of his cage, observing the chaos. Having had a blue crown conure previously, quiet was a HUGE plus.
I got some questions: 1. Are Pionus parrots dusty like cockatoos? or this one in particular? If yes, how do you deal with it? 2. Does this parrot also come to you when you call him like lets say a GCC? 3. One pionus or would you suggest to get them as a couple? thanks for your reviews, I wait for them each weekend :D
1. Pionus are New World parrots so they are not dusty 2. Yes they can be trained. Everyday when my wife comes home, my BW Pionus flies over to greet her. It's super cute. 3. Generally I recommend people to get 1 parrot so the bird will get attached to the owner as opposed to getting attached to another bird. Unless you have a lot of time to spend with each bird to keep the friendliness up.
I am absolutely sold on a pionus of some kind (maybe not maximilian's since they're so big), but I can't find any breeders anywhere in Texas. There's one group in Austin, JC Aviary, but their birds are $4800! I went to a shop and played with a couple green cheek conures and they seemed like a good fit as well, so that will probably be my first bird. Another shop has senegals on occasion which are a type of poicephalus from my understanding - are they similar in temperament? I'm pretty bummed I can't find a reasonable price on a pionus. Any trustworthy online retailers someone could recommend? Facebook groups are full of obvious scammers lol
This is my Pionus, His name is Captain. He has been with me since October. He is AMAZING!!! I have him and a sweet little female Maxi pIonus from Omar’s. They are the best birds ever.
Is the Pionus chill and laid back, or are they cold and dull? I just can't decide. I never see any cute videos of them interacting with their people, or playing , or doing anything. 🤔
My significant other wants a bird again. They had a caique as a kid, but their mom got rid of the bird and broke their heart. They love their intelligence and playfulness. Contrary, I see them as a huge commitment. And responsibility and I can't see it being a responsible option as a twenty something. I have no idea where I'll be when I'm 50 ish. I guess rescue is an option but even ten years seems like too much for an animal who can be as intelligent two year old. Pionus seems to be a good options given their indecent streak.
Something I've actually been working on for a while! Now that breeding season is coming to an end, I'll be creating some new types of content like this. What kind of things would you like to see the most?
That would be great to do bird toys, cages and stand reviews etc. Also talking about the benefits of having foraging toys to keep pet birds mentally engaged and which ones you'd recommend to new bird owners. I'd keep it species specific because they have different needs which will help new owners know what they can do to keep their feathered companion happy and healthy. 😄
Nice videos concept like Clint's repitiles. But monthly up keep cost could be a good talking topic. because there similar size birds that need more fresh food or destrutive toys then others.
did he just say 1 500 to 2000... that is no where near affordable for me but maybe im just used to reptile prices (my entire leopard gecko setup costed only 300)
I would say Pionus are relaxed enough you can make a 9-5 job or school work out. Just try to keep the bird in a room in the house with a lot of foot traffic

@@Fivesaflock my Maximilian’s was in an enclosure next to a female eclectus at the aviary, and she was in a screamy mood. Max just kind of hung out there in the back of his cage, observing the chaos. Having had a blue crown conure previously, quiet was a HUGE plus.
@@Monej82 if he's not quiet yet chances are he will never be. That's just his personality
I got some questions:
1. Pionus are New World parrots so they are not dusty
I’d love to see a review on the Patagonia Conure!
How often do you have to trim their beaks and nails?
I wish these birds were cuddly, i want a cuddly bird . If they were I’d be buying one now.
Have you done a video on the Maxamillian Pionus?
Heheh, "I love Pionus" "I'm a huge fan of Pionus" hehehehe
Pls a content about patagonian conure. I own one for about a month now.
Review the spix macaw
Just wondering can you free flight a pionus?
You should add head to head battle/comparison videos budgie vs cockatiel, macaw vs cockatoo, pionus vs Hahn’s.
You should do the cape parrot or the eclectus!
Def will when I get ahold of them!
Hello, I was wondering if the white capped pionus is similar to the blue headed pionus?
What is thought about the Mitred conure
This dude is really into pionus.☺️
Can you also do a video about monk parakeets? Thankyou
Your videos are really helpful
hi is a Maximilian Pionus diffrent bird ?
This is my Pionus, His name is Captain. He has been with me since October. He is AMAZING!!! I have him and a sweet little female Maxi pIonus from Omar’s. They are the best birds ever.
Glad to hear Captain is doing amazing! He was such a great bird when doing this review. So glad to hear he went to an awesome home
Bro, I think I'm sold on Pionus.
Is the Pionus chill and laid back, or are they cold and dull? I just can't decide.
I never see any cute videos of them interacting with their people, or playing , or doing anything. 🤔
Could you take them out for walks or drives ect..
Soooo cute!
My bh pionus was a decent talker and spoke short phrases.
Can you please review Electus parrots?
You convinced me to get a Pianos over a Grey.
I'm actually considering this......
I wk 12 hrs a day will this bird be ok
Would you recommend any pionus rescues?
Are there any real differences between white capped and bronze wing pionus?
In my experience, the species are for the most part very similar and the main differences you experience are moreso individual personality traits.
Please can you review the African grey please, love your channel btw 🦜💙
Can you do like DIY videos for toys, stands, etc?
Something I've actually been working on for a while! Now that breeding season is coming to an end, I'll be creating some new types of content like this. What kind of things would you like to see the most?
That would be great to do bird toys, cages and stand reviews etc. Also talking about the benefits of having foraging toys to keep pet birds mentally engaged and which ones you'd recommend to new bird owners. I'd keep it species specific because they have different needs which will help new owners know what they can do to keep their feathered companion happy and healthy. 😄
Do a video on a blue headed pious pls
Nice videos concept like Clint's repitiles. But monthly up keep cost could be a good talking topic.
because there similar size birds that need more fresh food or destrutive toys then others.
6:47 exactly why I want one 😂
I live in utah and really want a pionus bird but I can't find them anywhere T-T
Last time we had the tsundere ringneck
Next we Outta have the dandere African grey
😂
Where can I get one?
Oh no, now I want one!
Can I get a single Pionus or does it need to have another bird for company?
Is there the ‘perfect 5score’ parrot?
Someone should hybrid breed the pionus parrot. Beautiful bird,…..I would like to see this parrot bred with a Lori. 🦜❤️
Can you also review a senegal parrot?
Please! Make a review like this but about Amazona Autumnalis and others amazonas!!
Will look for Pionus....How about Hanging Parrots?
I have been seeing them more like $4.5k these days. More than 5,000 from a few sellers
Maybe you’ve answered this already but are there any major differences between the various breeds of pionus parrots?
For the most part, Pionus are very similar in personality. I would say the individual traits are what would stick out more when they get older.
did he just say 1 500 to 2000... that is no where near affordable for me but maybe im just used to reptile prices (my entire leopard gecko setup costed only 300)
is it also a good bird if you go to school
I would say Pionus are relaxed enough you can make a 9-5 job or school work out. Just try to keep the bird in a room in the house with a lot of foot traffic
Thank You! I am going to sub, and love your vids keep them up!
