I had the amazing honor of being at Vimy ridge with the rest of the young Canadians. Truly an amazing ceremony and it made me very proud to be Canadian. Let us never forget those who fought and are still fighting in wars today.
The thing is, I knew a veteran of Vimy Ridge! His name was Knobby Clark. There is a carving in the chalk walls of the underground tunnels of a Black Watch Cap Badge with his name under it and the date. I spent hours in the Sergeants Mess sitting down at a table and talking with him. He was very forth coming and sometimes a tear would come to his eye, thinking of a lost comrade. It was like sweet summer wine that I could not get enough of. He is long gone now and sorely missed.
No better woman! You have the essence of what was to every soldier who didn't return to his unit the next morning! The word love could be replaced with brother, son or friend and it would all fit so seamlessly. I love how you release the spirit from the ground. How absolutely wonderful. Lizzy! You are amazing!
What a haunting ode. This music makes something in me return to the Scots-Irish heritage that I am. Great presentation Lizzy Hoyt. Soon to purchase three of your compilations. Bon Chance to you this and in the coming year.
I heard a snippet of this song on CBC's the National News this week. I searched untill I was able to find this song................................WOW! What a moving tribute to our Canadian soldiers that gave their all, and what a moving song tribute to them. You have a beautifull voice! Kudo's! God Bless Mike ;>)
It was he who made me realize what it was to be a Highlander! Sure! My father and all my Uncles from both sides of the family taught me as well. But, there was something special about Knobby! and I will never forget him. Your song has brought that all back to me now and I thank you for it.
I just found this video and still this song touches my heart like it did that day in the rain at vimy ridge. This is an amazing tribute to the men who gave their lives for our country. I will remember, je me souviens.
Watched this performed live at Vimy. Absolutely beautiful; I was holding back sobs. I can tell you that everyone with me thought the same. Amazing job, and keep it up!
I was also at Vimy Ridge on Monday. It was an emotional and powerful day. This song is just absolutely beautiful. Luckily I had the oppritunity to talk to Lizzy for a brief moment after the ceremony.
Here cause I visited the Canadian war museum il 2017 and them past that in the exposition. Love this song, makes me cry and think about past. Thanks Lizzy
I had the Honor of being at Vimy Ridge with 5000 other young Canadians last Monday for 95th Anniversary. It was truly an amazing and eye opening experience.
Lizzy - First of all, how do I buy tickets for your tour? Next, both my grandfathers fought at Vimy. My Mum's Dad wrote a letter on April 10, 1917, that absolutely sends shivers down my back. One of the funny parts is where he describes all the souvenirs they "captured" in one of the trenches they came upon. He commanded a Vickers Gun Crew, and they were part of the "creeping barrage", so he did not go over the parapet until 7:30 am. Probably saved his life, although a couple in his crew were killed. And for those who have not been to Vimy, hope you put it on your Bucket List. It is an amazing place.
Great job kiddo. It's my birthday and this is the video about vimy I'm sharing so people learn about it. better than the government video even :) thanks!
As was I, a Sea Cadet. In all honesty, I wasn't expecting such an amazing song. Hopefully they do the same thing next year, but with more time in Belgium.
I was there... I will always remember my soldier at Vimy and I wish I can go back, this was an amazing trip cant wait to go back there.. one day.. Je n'oublirerais jamais mes soldats et je toujours souviendrait. Le fameuse citation. Nous nous souviendrons. We will remember.
Hallo Madame. Your voice is so sweet . For the soldiers who are dying for our liberty. ( canadian, scottish, australian, english and also french. No more cross in the ground. only your amazing voice. it's better.
Unfortunately, I don’t. But you aren’t the first person to ask, so perhaps this is a future project! If you’re interested, I have a new TH-cam channel where I’m posting content: Lizzy Hoyt Music. It would be great to have you join!
Je Me Souviens! (I Remember) from the motto of the Province of Quebec. For those who fought in the First World War to preserve a kind freedom some only dream of! Lest we forget the ultimate price paid by soldiers and families, then-now - forever.
A fitting tribute to the thousands of brave young men who died on that ridge 97 years ago, giving their lives with the utmost courage, ushering in Canada's greatest victory of The Great War.
So that not quite true his unit was scheduled to be sent to the front lines at vimy but a last min change had them sent a few km away to a diffrent location
The English nor French could take that Ridge. We stepped to it and did was was neccessary to take it. Today that hill is not French. It is stained with the blood of the Heroes who fought for it. We didn't liberate it for France. We Conquered it for Canada.
I'm all for one's sense of nationalism, but do not forget and/or disrespect the French and English soldiers that died in vain trying to capture that hill before!
Steve Wellman Along with Scottish, Welsh and Irish. I,E, British. I could go on, the whole of the commonwealth gave men who payed the ultimate price. I respect the Canadians and their bravery. But as you say lots of brave men gave their all.
Panda1345..As a Canadian your post is both inaccurate and embarrassing . We nor any of the Commonwealth countries fought to conquer any land in WW1 or WW2 . We fought to liberate...PERIOD ! The land the monument sits on was given to Canada by France as a memorial site . Have a little respect for all the other countries involved in the conflict for the lives lost and lives ruined . As good as Canada's contribution was in both wars we certainty didn't win it on our own . I regret being three years too late to counter your childish boast .

Must of been truly an honour to be able to meet him. And i thank him and all those who died for our freedom
Indeed an honour as there is no longer any combat servicemen of WW1 left alive.
No better woman! You have the essence of what was to every soldier who didn't return to his unit the next morning! The word love could be replaced with brother, son or friend and it would all fit so seamlessly. I love how you release the spirit from the ground. How absolutely wonderful.

Fun fact. Hitler was at the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
