    glad you are enjoying Bali. "Bagus" is nice in the context of non-living things like pictures, clothes, sceneries, etc. When it comes to taste, it should be "enak", which also means nice. for living beings such as animal, persons or personality, the word to use is "baik". e.g.: babi gulingnya enak (the roast pork is nice), pantainya bagus (the beach is nice), anjingnya baik (the dog is nice -- personality wise)

      hi joan, thanks for the tips! we learnt a lot about how to say delicious haha ... enak! Lezak! Jaaaan (apparently that's balinese local lingo)! thank u for baik! that's new to me

    terang bulan basically just pancakes on steroids, next time you should try lawar kebo ( buffalo meat with balinese spice )
    also lawar kuwir (goose) & lawar penyu (sea turtle) it's real balinese delacasy
    for lawar penyu (sea turtle) you may not finding it in gojek, because strict regulations & limit for killing sea turtle

    • @JeanVoronkova
      @JeanVoronkova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wow thanks for the food recs it sounds really exotic! i'll feel bad eating the sea turtle though... i really like them hehe they're cute

    Nice la, nice. hahaha. Your influence. Surprised to see Vitaly munching on the chilli padi. Gojek food seems surprisingly cheap considering the inflation in Bali. If you like Babi guling, check out Bapak Dobiel in the Bukit. Nearing Nusa Dua on the bypass, abt 100m down the last right turn. Among my favourites in Bali are Satay with extra kuah on rice, Ayam Betutu (best was a small eating place at the old airport. I always eat before leaving) Bali Guling, Ubud, the 1st Ibu Oka outlet, fried banana fritters and what they called molen at the same stall. And of course the ubiquitous Nasi Jinggo. If you don't want too spicy, ask for Balinese sambal matah. Not too spicy but very fragrant,... i can eat plain rice with that alone.

    • @terubong
      @terubong 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Forgot to mention Nasi padang (not exactly Balinese but still in Bali) I'm a night owl and many nasi padang joints are still open late nights..... eating that in some little place at 3am with a few other local night owls strumming guitar and belting out Indonesian ballads.. and kretek filling the air... ooo .. its so surreal i tell you.

    • @JeanVoronkova
      @JeanVoronkova  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey your description of the late night nasi padang really got me..... actually we r like old people we go to bed at 10am hahaha (we also wake up early lah... but still).... i'm so intrigued. I love it when they gather n play music theyre such musical people. n the food recs sound really good thank u so much! i will def check out the stuff u mentioned!! i gotta find out what ayam betutu is man. and uh what's kuah? also, what is this lalapan we see everywhere but cannot figure out?

    • @JeanVoronkova
      @JeanVoronkova  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah the sambal rocks. Spicy, but really so much flavor.

    • @terubong
      @terubong 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JeanVoronkova I saw the shop you had your babi guling said ayam betutu in their banner too. It's nice. Bebek betutu also nice. Got to try Murni's in Ubud too for duck. Bebek Bengil is nice too but its fried duck. Kuah is gravy. Lalapan is like some healthy food (not for me haha) Its a dish that may contain chicken or fish served with usually raw vegetables. Sometimes called Lalap too. Don't be afraid to try all the food, they're all edible. Just whether to your taste or not. But if you see lawar..some contain raw blood. You might want to ask first.

  • @IndoCropCirclesOfficial
    @IndoCropCirclesOfficial 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually Indonesian food is not too spicy. The key to seeing very spicy or not too spicy is if the chili or sambal is fried / cooked first then it's not too spicy. Chili if raw or not fried / cooked is very spicy, for example, Balinese sambal (called Sambal Matah) is too spicy. BTW Tempe is super food now. Tempe is already booming in the world as a super food in the future.

    If you are a seafood lover and don't mind to be a bit adventurous in the wet fish market , you can go to Pasar Ikan Kedonganan (Kedonganan Fish Market) in Jimbaran. You can buy any kind of seafood there, fresh and very reasonable price. Then bring it to the restaurants just outside the market, they will happily grill it for you for about 15K-20K rupiah (IDR) per kg. Enak dan murah.

    I am really concerned about food delivery as well as on line shopping packaging management in this time of the pandemic because people around the world seem to focus on curbing the spread of covid but on the other hand seem to ignore on how mich plastic waste generated by food delivery and online shopping. My advise, do your bit whenever/where ever you can, for instance : always try to bring your food container and shopping bag whem go shop for food. Our planet is dying because of human activity and consumption.

    • @JeanVoronkova
      @JeanVoronkova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i totally agree, but one thing really nice about Bali living is that actually in our area, other than the local pasar, all shops have gotten rid of plastic bags and you have to buy reusable cloth shopping bags if you didn't bring one with you. That's a major plus already. Also for our food deliveries a lot of it comes in paper wrapping, and the plastic bags that we do receive we hoard them so we can reuse them again for other purposes. We lived in Vietnam previously and there there's really no consciousness or intent about reducing plastic usage. On our end we bring reusable bags whenever we grocery shop just to prevent pile up of plastic bags at home. In comparison Bali is much much better in this regard so far in our experience.

    Indonesian food is like witch food, because the color is like witch potion (there are purple, green, red, yellow, white, black, blue, gray, brown, orange, pink and others in the food). Not only that, in one food name such as "Satay" or "Nasi Goren" or "Mi Goren" or "Sambal" there are many variations. It also has many flavors in it be it savory, salty, sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, bland and others. Seems like a witch food, very unique and diverse and all Indonesian dishes can be combined and improved. Because I know there are Indonesian foods with strange names, including "Sambel Setan", "Bakso Beranak", "Kue Tete", "Keropuk Miskin", "Es Teler", "Makaroni Ngehe", "Kue Cubit", " Seblak Mewek " and many more. ️
    Okay, if you pay attention to Indonesian food, it doesn't look beautiful, but if you eat it, it will have a unique, strange, soft, soft, sticky taste, etc., blending according to its name. of every dish. It is not easy to adapt Indonesian food to the tongue, because every dish is always different using different types of spices. I've even tried Indonesian food called "Sayur Bening", "Sayur Lontong", "Sayur Asam", "Sayur Nangka". If you pay attention, there are indeed similarities in the word "SAYUR" but they are different in terms of appearance, ingredients, taste, color and others. Those are just a few that I give examples, there are many other uniqueness.
    I conclude that : Indonesian food and drink is not a gimmick. Or it can also be called the King and Queen dishes, because each dish is served in various categories into one section, namely "Indonesian Food". ❤️

    • @JeanVoronkova
      @JeanVoronkova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes the array is dizzying and there's so much to explore and discover! The food names can be a bit challenging cos even Googling doesn't give u an answer sometimes haha but it's mostly turned out very yummy so far. we haven't yet tried anything we dont like yet, even though very spicy haha 😍

      @@JeanVoronkova Yes it is really confusing, like a puzzle game. Even when someone sees Indonesian food for the first time, they will think that it is the same as what they think but when they try it, the reality is different.
