I own this lens and my god it is sharp. I use it for portraits, macro shots, product shots and even landscapes. If you are considering getting it then just buy it, it is worth every penny.
yes it is amazing, until you get dust inside, i need to have mine sent off to be stripped down and cleaned, with a macro of 1:1 those dust specs show right up on a close up macro, so annoying
Thank you so much for that video! I liked everything of it. The snowy silent forest, your lovely and so cute dog, the calming music, your setup (A7 III and the 90mm Macro), your scenes, your shots! Very relaxing to watch. I enjoyed it a lot. It also inspires me to find more time and go out there myself again for shooting - especially as I'm loving my 90mm Macro on the A7 III too. This will be the setup for my next forest walk. - There's just no snow around me. Maybe next year. - Keep up your wonderful work ... and stay save - thank you!
This wandering around looking for things to take pictures of in a forest... feels very familiar. (I live in the north of Sweden so pine forests are pretty much all there is around. I have lots of pictures of mushrooms by now.)
Besides the ordinary purpose I use this lens for repro photographing negatives to ARW files. Even a 100 ISO film will reveal its grain structure, and to my surprise, my favourite noise remover, DxO PureRAW 3, actually preserves that grain structure, i.e. AI don't consider it to be noise. Nice filming, btw.
Hi Chris, I bought this lens way back in March 2017 before I went full frame. It was one of Dpreview's Lens of the Year and was sold out everywhere. It was a bitterly cold day but I got on a bus and went to the Stockyards Best Buy to pick up my coveted lens , sight unseen and the last copy in Toronto. On my a6500 it was bitingly sharp and of course, more like a 135mm equivalent - made for a great portrait lens and a somewhat unusual street lens ( got some scary sharp closeups of monkey figurines in a store window with incredible detail!) This lens is really nothing like any other in the Sony line up but it is well worth the money.; it is built like a tank especially as it is only designated as a G lens. Like you, I love the clutch and the ability to choose the focus distance with the limiter switch depending on the situation. That helps as the auto focus on this lens is not the fastest- there is a lot of glass inside to move around. When I first got it I was concerned about the somewhat loud focus motor noise but that seems to have settled down with more use. If you like a solid chunky lens, this will fit the bill. On the a6500 it was too front heavy - it is much better balanced on my a7iii. Thanks for a relaxing breather in this rather crazy time. Cooper is a virtual emotional support therapy dog for your viewers!
its definitely a lens that stands apart from all their others for sure. Funny you say that about Cooper, we thought he would make a great therapy dog actually
Great video, Chris. I bought the 90mm Macro in January after becoming interested in macro photography. It is an incredibly sharp lens. I have really enjoyed it so far. I hope you enjoy it as well and can't wait to see more of what you do with it. With my avoiding people these days, it has been me, my sony a7iii, my 90 mm macro lens and all the insects that I can find in my back yard for entertainment. I hope you and your family are doing well.
The 90mm Macro was one of the first lenses on my to buy list but for some reason still haven't gotten around to getting it. There always seems to be something else which I end up getting first. Btw did make those white product arrows yourself or is it something built in the software? They look very professional.
This place looks so magical. Great video Chris ;) love it. Ps: because of you I got myself the a7 iii and the Zeiss 55mm f 1.8. best decision yet! Thanks a million and keep it up!
Loving this lens. Have it on my a7riv and am using it quite often for street photography here in Tokyo. The image sharpness is better than any of my GM lenses. And it's way cheaper, too.
The 90 mm Macro is an absolute beast of a lens. Was one of the first full frame lenses I picked up for my a9, and is now one of my favourites along side the Zeiss 55 1.8. Razor sharp images, and totally worth the $730 I paid for the lens. 🤩🤩
Really appreciated your video... I know how hard to video your self by yourself moving camera every time you change location... This is very beautiful Man and Dog adventure. 👍🏼
i plan to buy it to replace my 100mm canon macro. i need something with autofocus, but i need to try it first to see if i can figure out how to balance it on my gimbal too. it's the sweet spot of a lens for me because of the close focussing (i prefer an actual macro lens, since it gives the most freedom) to be able to do detail shots in video, and since i plan to get the a7s3 it also closes the gap of a medium tele lens, where now i just use s35 mode on my 55mm
I love the bold decision to do an A-roll piece to the camera into a B-roll walking away. I acknowledge the camera is there... and I'm leaving it. Jokes aside, it's a great lens.
Great video mate, I like this style outdoor wander and see what you find. Also great with a chest mount GoPro or similar. You got some great shots. I use my 90 on our dogs or bees and bugs I find.
Is there a way you can get the orange focus assist box to stay in the center of the frame instead of changing to the pixels the AF locked in on in the last pic? Grr
I"ve had this lens for a while but haven't put it to use much. Thanks for showing me what it can do outdoors. Also looking into your backpack...Thanks for the video.
AF works for me shooting macro when everything is moving in the wind. Fast shutter speed and touch to shoot on my a5100 works great. A whole different way to macro.
Also mate, I have a battery extension on the bottom of my a7iii, do you think it would be okay to use the peak design capture clip with that? I’m thinking maybe not..
Take 10 minutes to shelter from the mad world and enjoy this chill hike 🤙🏻
Finally got my a7iii so looking forward to do the same as you and getting away from the madness, stay safe Chris 👍 love your video's 👌
thanks man, you too!
The A7iii and 90 mm Macro is my favorite combo, so versatile and sharp. Really like the video, great vibe

hugely agree!! I held off for too long
@@chrisbrockhurst I'm a student, I use it for every project and people love the pictures. I love its compression, detail and bokeh !

Do you think it would a good video lens for the A7SIII?

Appreciate you detailing it all out like that, those are all things I take pride in!
Dog is clearly having the best time!
This lens and the 24mm/1.4 GM are my FAVORITE lenses for my A7III! Great video!
Thanks for watching, a great combo!!

Loved this video. So human, so real. It was quite like a short film.
Thankyou, that really means alot. These are my absolute fav to make

So stoked on this video chris, peaceful, chill and just a nice break from all the you know what talk. Thanks for this one brother
Thanks Joey, back at ya with yours.

I agree! Time for us to get deeper into this hobby with all this time haha
The next lens on my shopping list so great timing, thanks!
Hope you and yours all stay well.

They are just a video template on FCPX
@@chrisbrockhurst What is the name of the template? I can then google around to see if there is something similar in premiere pro.
Winter is tough I am glad it's finally over here in Ontario.
Instead now we just can't go outside at all haha
This place looks so magical. Great video Chris ;) love it.

yeh, its literally razor sharp
Love the video, nice, calm, and nice image samples to get an idea of the quality and sharpness.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Hi,Chris in about to buy this SONY 90MM MACRO. Does your 90mm make AF noisy sound in video? either in manual or autofocus mode? Please answer :D

Can i ask your jacket Helly hansen Which model?

Can I use this lense for wedding photography and groups?
Please respond.

Beautiful hike! Thanks for sharing your experience

Cheers! Was going to have the GoPro attached too but opted for more crafted shots for this one on a static tripod

You bet! thanks for watching
this lens is so underrated
Agreed.
what mode did you operate in this video? Aperture priority or Manual mode? thanks
Always full manual

Is this camera ASMR because I’m digging it
ha! its borderline
Dogs are the best.
i knew instantly that the setting was in the canada.
Came for the lens and stayed for the hike. Where's this?
haha thats great!! more of these coming. This one is called Harold Town Conservation area, 10 minutes outside Peterborough, Ontario.
Gloves??
Another winner. Absolutely beyond awesome. Thank you for sharing. Cooper listens way better than my dog. Actually, no one listens to me. 😎
Other than Cooper nobody listens to me haha. Cheers for the kind words!
What a stunning lens, as a landscape photographer I might get it for more tight intimate scenes
Yeh I quite liked the look of some of the tighter scenes
If you cold, your dog is also cold. Next time take care of your friend. I hate when owners do not take care of those beautiful animals.
the dog loves that weather and is most definitely not cold.
7:45 :))
Ha! Didn’t even notice that
@@chrisbrockhurst it is very funny :))
Also mate, I have a battery extension on the bottom of my a7iii, do you think it would be okay to use the peak design capture clip with that? I’m thinking maybe not..
for sure, ive done that and it works no problem. Just a bit top heavy
Chris Brockhurst good stuff. Thanks for the reply mate.
Good video mate. What’s the location of you don’t mind me asking?
Peterborough, Ontario
Chris Brockhurst ah. Nowhere near me. I was just wondering. Thanks again ✌🏻
