I speak Welsh, English and Portuguese she speaks English Spanish and Catalan. There are links between all these small nations culturally but if you want to delve further there are links between all of Europe, Scandinavian folk music is similar to Shetland music which is similar to Scots/Irish music which is similar to Northumberland, galego, Asturian, cantabrian, Breton, Welsh, Cornish: which are similar to English, french etc. There are links everywhere, it’s not just a Celtic thing.

I know you posted this 5 years ago, but have you heard of the Dublin Irish Festival in Ohio? Some of the best artists worldwide perform there every year (Altan, Young Dubliners, Old Blind Dogs, Dervish) and there's usually over 100K visitors. I've been every year for close to a decade and it's always a blast. Beer on tap, seven stages, tons of booths and things to check out, lasting a few days.

BRILLIANT A no nonsense (But for the fun involved) solid session! Thanks ever so much for posting this playlist. It means a heck of a lot to someone who has never even been to your session physically, nor ever had training or coaching. So it is invaluable for the wider community. It's my favorite playlist to piut on when I feel the need to practice double bass to folk dance when am not practicing cajun rockabilly, bluegras, gospel, soul, etc. I probably learn the most from these sessions as it all transfers into the American roots stuff i enjoy, so easily. It is so cool how a really on-fire session maitains a tight solid rooted groove, yet so much freedom to attack it from any stance you feel at the time. And to think... I can't stand Guiness (even though I've been a guest at their Castle in Dublin!)
Absolutely. There is a lot of scottish folk around now too (I'm scottish), but I find the Irish stuff a LOT more jolly and happy, better LIVING dance grooves, tight grooves with 100% freedom to be yourself when playing with strangers, and less stuffy, and so on. Irish seems more inclusive too.

I was in Butte Montana and being the "unofficial Irish Capital of Montana" the town blasts Irish Reels from loudspeakers located either in the sidewalks or on the lamp posts. Daily. The town is mostly Cornish and Irish and tragically unemployed after the mines closed. I won't lie, she's a dying town. Her residents are packing up and moving to where the jobs are. But even the locals come back to see the old town as tourists. Maybe if the town council would try to get a college to move in and attract a big employer? The Irish can be a bit stubborn at times, I know, I am "Black Irish" on my mother's side!
Honestly, if I could be ANYWHERE in the world on NYE tomorrow it would be here. SO joyous but then I DO have Irish AND Scottish heritage so this is home for me ❤. Happy 2021 to everyone. Keep those vibes high 😉😘👌👍💖
