  • This is the beginning of what I hope is a video series on my channel called the "Horn Resurrection" series. I plan to resurrect several horns in the next couple months (in line are an Alexander 200, N-series Conn 8D, and Meister Hans Hoyer 7801). I don't do this kind of work full time, but I do enjoy it when I get the chance, and hope that it is enjoyable for you to watch.
This first horn is a customer's Mirafone compensating descant that has been sitting for around 30 years without ever being out of the case. The horn was very dirty and needed a good clean, valve alignment, and just general maintenance. It probably took about 3-4 hours that I spread out over the course of a few days. The end result is a fully functional, beautiful, very light and sweet sounding descant that plays great.
    Enjoy!

I played a descant as my main horn for over 20 years and the very first descant I ever owned was one of these! I guess everyone has a couple of horns they wish they'd never sold and this is one of mine...

Feel free to message me on my site about this horn. If you want to purchase it we can talk for sure.

I'm loving the rebuild... but honestly, the lovely horn solo in the background is a bit too loud and detracts from what you're saying as you go through the process. The build is more important than the background music. Still, I love what you're doing.

Super helpful feedback thank you! I’ll keep that in mind on the next one for sure.
