In Europe they even swap Caddy’s, Octavia’s and Leon’s with these engines because of the platform sharing. It’s great!
Hell yeah being Czech mysekf it’s awesome seeing those RS3 swapped Skodas 😄 my fav one is the white Octy from Russia thats beating Lambos on the streets
I miss this car everyday
Myself and the other DAZA Swap owners figured out how to flash DS1 and Unitronic instead of UM. Night and day. 100+ more HP. Now it feels like it should. ❤
@@Kevin_MK7RSR Kevin does that give u the ability to have rolling anti-lag now?
@@TENNESSEETRACKHAWK You can get it working yes. But because we don't have the same stalk that the RS3 does (Where the cruise control is I think) you need to assign it to a different input. (I haven't done it yet).
@@AmericanBerwery-Lofts kool thanx. Who offers that is it UM or Eurotuning?
These oem plus type builds are my favorite.😍
Beautiful sleeper turned into even more of a sleeper.
This is far from being an OEM+ build. You could buy another Golf R, and modify it extensively, for the cost of this upgrade.
@@JacesOwnWorld I understand that. That's why I said "Oem plus type." Meaning, a car that is upgraded using oem stuff. Is this build expensive and had to be thoroughly massaged to make it work? Yes. However, it's using pretty much all Audi/VW stuff.
@@JacesOwnWorld you obviously do not understand what OEM+ means lol
Better off just buying an RS3. Unless you have to have a hatch. But, it’s car that VW should have made for their enthusiast. It would have sold like crazy.
This ain't oem plus. Not even close.
Watching JDM guys geek out over how easy Euro stuff fits together is hilarious. VAG has been doing modular designs for a long time, which is how they keep costs low as well. The more parts that can be shared, the greater the economies of scale.
Awesome build, love these and that more people are doing them.
The reason it works so well is because the golf R and RS3 are both MQB platform cars. It's no coincidence the seats, steering wheel, engine and other components fit and are plug and play.
If you know, you know
Such an amazing build! I've seen a couple others on YT - there was one from WITW last year that was pretty sick.
Beautifully built.
*As I understand it, VW tried to put the 5 cyl in the Golf R, but Audi wouldn't allow it. I don't know the specifics, but it was talked about.
fuckk bruh debating on going to wokies this year... ive never been.. and my first time owning a vw
That was mine, thanks 😊

mk7 Golf R is the best daily available to the US market, hands down. My wife has one as a daily, my kid loves it. Brilliant.
I have a Trackhawk, Redeye, Turbo Mustang and a Golf R thats built. I prefer the R over ALL the other cars for real!
Can't stop drooling over this build... So many ways to go other than daily drive.... Insanity...

a guy in the uk just done this conversion and claiming around 1000 bhp, insanity indeed

Im glad Larry isn't letting the negative comments stop him from posting content with Tommy. I use to not like Tommy because of his arrogance and the B is for Build situation but he got his karma now the proper thing to do is allow him to grow from the situation which it seems he has. I don't think he is dumb so he won't be doing anything like that again meaning we as the viewers should chill out and enjoy the content.
Contractual obligations tend to enforce things like that. 😂
@@jzlharvey What contract are you referring to? And when did they send you a copy? 😂
Well said. Mature perspective. Unfortunately we live in a time where its easy to cast judgement and then there is no path to redemption. Those pointing the finger love to kick a man while he’s down even if when he makes an effort to “get back up”. It makes them feel morally virtuous. Now they’re “better than you”. Ofc these same ppl have their own skeletons in their closet the difference is nobody knows about them.
@@G_Ozare bro we used to literally burn people to death because we thought they were witches lmao this is nothing new
What is the story with Tommy? Keep seeing comments about something he did but no info anywhere…
The reason for the heavy fwd feel in the car is because it’s a transverse mounted motor awd setup instead of the expected gtr, m cars, amg stuff that’s has the typical front rear setup of your classic a-typical awd stuff. Another reason for it is the compact packaging, jump up to the A4 or anything in that body size or bigger gets you back to the expected front rear awd set up.
Not only, you said everything and just "forgot" to say that the engine sits in front of the wheels so momentum and all those things :).
Pretty much al audi's understeer. It's mainly because pretty much all of them start as (base models) fwd cars.
The golf R is basically a (bit) faster Golf GTI. A gti is fwd.
Also purist won't call the used 4wheel drive system a true Quattro. The haldex is mainly fwd biased. Most of the time the rear wheels arent't even powered.
Purist prefer the torsen system; found in the bigger (and older) audi's
The newest haldex versions do have a "drift-mode"; doesnt make it faster, but makes it oversteer.
Here in Europe we do have something similar to this, an Audi RS3 hatchback. It's built on the same platform as the Golf and your US RS3 (here in EU we call the sedan RS3 a limousine)
Same with the S3. Basically a nicer golf R.
Ánd we've got 3 doors hatchbacks.
That's what I'm driving. Black S3 8v, 3door.
@@theowarmelink7347 but the s3 doesn't have a 5 cylinder
@@needcraft21
True.
I was talking about the body styles.
Golf gti: 3-5 door hatchback
Golf R, 3-5 doors hatch and estate
S3/rs3 3-5 door hatch, 5 door sedan, and convertible softtop.
Edit: convertible only s3 not rs3
Love the fact he said the better metric is track times instead of Dyno numbers. If only everyone realized this
True but the UM tune is still a dog 👎🏻
Hopefully if you could, check the Tiguan with the RS3 engine swap in South Africa.
I think that's be wicked too! What a sick small rally cross suv type thing for sure! The OEM R line V8 versions were pretty wicked 💪🏼 themselves! Be sick with some especially mods for sure as I'm sure!
Love my Golf R. Best daily I’ve ever had.
I remember when Tommy built this thinking this is such a cool car, ultimate sleeper. He got it done, made a couple videos and boom it was gone. This would have been my daily for at least a couple years.
Because he couldnt afford it dude. He owes literally hundreds of thousands of dollars..
Money talks. He generally sells off the projects he manages to finish.

This is more affordable than most
I have an RS3 swap bro fully built. Im a Cop lol so I dont maske big business money at all. Its no more expensive than buying a stock TTRS. Depending on ur goals it can cost a little more but not much.
The Malaka motorsports guys still have my attention. With their VR6 R30 RS3... The updates are taking forever. But it's worth it. Their build is making something like 1300 whp.

Larry, everything on the RS3 Bolt on the Golf because is the same MQB plataform both the Golf and the Audi A3, wich the RS3 is based
In 2010 I was doing oem+ builds and at car shows I got laughed at. Now it's the thing and I'm glad it caught on.
Its a thing?
I would have bought a rs3 hatch if they sold them in the states. This is the next best thing lol
X2. 👍🏻
"Big sedan" but is only 30cm longer :)
And in europe hatchback (and even in 3doors available) are more common than sedans.
Both in S3's rs3's
3doors are more rare. And have a slightly shorter wheel base.
And golf R stations/estates are even more rare. Talk about sleepers.
Fun fact - MQB plateforms in VW usually bolt on as standard: VW Audi and Seat
I will always love a clean sleeper build. There's just something about knowing a bunch of folks have no idea what lies underneath.
Its a lovely car OME+++ BEAUTIFUL 😎😎✌✌👌👌👍👍
Oem?? Very much so.
I would change out them heavy ass seats bro. I have RSR#1 btw...... Sleeved block, custom cams, ported head, custom fuel, IROZ 1100, Syvex, Litespeed Magnesium wheels, AP brakes, lightweight seats, CF Everything, etc...... Sooting for 1200 whp. Alex has it out in Cali at EQT where it will be tuned via Syvex.
If you come to south Africa you'll understand the VW and Audi love child. All built on the same production line same chassis, just different bodies.. it's like seeing Audi parts in a Lambo... Or seeing VW/Audi parts in Skoda/seat.. basically if VW owes you, you gona be able to mix match parts and make things fit pretty easy.
Nothing unusual, VAG started to doing this decade later than GM or Chrysler.
Man gotta love the awesome shots and crazy stuff you get to see and do keep it up.
Tommy's build is always amazing
Tommy is a scumbag buying his wife cars with other people's money.
The reason everything fits like a glove is because the mk7 golfs and audi 3 series are all based on the MQB platform. almost everything is interchangeable
The 0k7 inline 5 is the most underrated engine out there
Not true.
It's been "engine of the year" for almost a decade.
Might be unknown to many. But not underrated.
The RS3 and Golf are the same MQB platform. Most things are changeable.
That Golf 7 is maaaaad sick head nuh good!!!!! Crazy machine yute!!!
Thats a fun build i didnt know you could do that!
Golf, jetta, a3, s3, and rs3 are all on the same platform
Nice build but a Daza swap is very common in GTIs and Rs. This one is pretty clean but not new. lol Everything also fits because pretty much anything can or does bolt right into the MQB chassis. A3, S3, GTI, R, RS3, TTRS it's all the same with possibly a few tweaks here or there, if any.
Love Tommy and Larry but it must be said. I’m not sure if Tommy is talking about pump or ethanol but I think something is up with that transplant motor because with those mods the car should be in the 10s…low 11s at minimum. Yeah it doesn’t have an intake but with downpipe, intercooler and tune the car should be faster than mid 11s even on pump fuel. An rs3 which is heavier will be in the low 11s on pump and stage 1 tune and a golf R is like 300lbs lighter.
Yea, he didn't mention the hp. Seem embarrassed? Said the 11s time but as you said, that's stock rs3 time. Might also be the difference between using a draggy on street vs a prep track?
The tune sucks. Ask me how I know 😉
I’m transitioning my RSR off the UM tune now and moving to DS1. It will gain 100-120 hp, and 80-100 ft Lbs of torque. It’s complicated because of the IMMO though.
It feels a LOT faster on the DS1 tune and will run low to mid 10’s.
My RSR dyno’ed @467 and did the 1/4 in 11.8, and yes, that is embarrassing.
@@TeamCupNoodles-nn9og to clarify I said a stage 1 rs3 on pump will run low 11s.
A stock rs3 will run high 11s on pump IF the fuel octane is good (IE not pulling timing). I
don’t think he’s embarrassed I just think he doesn’t have something to compare it to given it was Colet’s ttrs that convinced him to do the build and he mentioned in the video he’s never driven an rs3 as he’s not a fan of the size.
@@Kevin_MK7RSR yeah i’m on ds1 as well which ots mapping is safe but still makes good power. Tommy should switch tunes…the flex fuel alone is worth it.
@@RMutt1 I finally drove my RSR on the DS1 tune today and it was only a 91 octane base file from Darin @DD Tuning. NIGHT AND DAY from my UM tune which is (Laughably) supposed to be Stg 2 93 octane. The pedal feel what so much more snappy and eager (UM’s is lazy) and the low end is better. Top is already WAAAY faster than the UM tune. What a waste of money. Overall the car just runs so much better already, and no more waste gate rattle!!! 😄❤️ I can’t imagine what this thing is going to feel like on the final revision of the Stg 2 e50 tune! 😳
There is always lot of Audis on the Audubon, the moral here is if can’t find what you like build it. 😊
I believe the RS3 is built off the golf chassis
Talking about people who do their builds over a long period of time on TH-cam, I watched the entire series of Ryan Tuerck’s Formula Supra build.
What a ("daily") ride .. 🤠
This thing just looks & sounds so damn amazing .. 😁
And that engine is a proper motorvation for an "R"..
No more "farting" and boring 4-zylinder .. 😏
The most OEM+ one can go. What an absolute unit. And great breakdown and interview.
Anyone know what rear view mirror that is?
Not a Tommy FYeah fan, but I love this build.
I want to do this conversion to my 2 door mk7 GTI
it fits cause MQB the platform, rs3 gti/R is the same chasis basically already the same car
Makes sense as to why everything fits as well as it does, I mean at the end of the day, its still MQB platform.
The Audi A3 hatchback is just a Golf with different body panels and interior trim.
@@RobBroderick44
True. Yet audi interiors are much nicer.
VW must build one with that engine from factory, i mean, it fits all because they all share the same platform....
VAG nearly built this car for real but Diesel gate shelved all of it 🥺
Audi is a owned by vw so things will fit. If the cars are on the MQB platform things will fit from car to car.
The golf is really popular in South Africa 🇿🇦.
Hey Larry, heads up on the typo in the thumbnail. Love what you do :)
I'd totally rather see him in other peoples videos.
Much more humble than in his own.
I would love to have the old golf R parts. Have you done away with them, or are they in storage?
thinking how much the cost of swap wondering the numbers
gotta get the euro taillights to top it off
If only Audi sold the RS3 Avant in Canada and the US... Then, you could get a proper factory-supported version of this. However, they don't.
That's really cool and fast for a five cylinder

Question is… can you swap Porsche seats in the MQB platform of cars?
Not sure but probably not plug and play.
a Golf and an A3 is the same car made on the same belt
Finally VW content
That’s what I’m saying. Show a little more love for the v dubs lol
Wait, I thought he was disappointed with this car and sold it on? Did it grow on him after all?

Unpopular FACT. The RS3 is based on the same platform as the mk7 golf. Hence the reason why its so easy to m swap things to.

Love the videos Larry! Although I understand the title, I found it a little ironic and amusing seeing as how Audi is owned by VW 😄

Yet the 5 cilinder is a typical Audi engine.
You do know the Audi A3 and VW Golf share the same platform?
It's called the Volkswagen Audi Group for a reason.
@@theowarmelink7347 I don't like the styling of the Audi interior or exterior. Same as how I don't like the styling of the mk7 or mk8 Golfs. You can like the drivetrain without liking the rest of the vehicle. You do know that, right?
I've probably messed with more fun cars over the last 25 years than you have, so if you want to try and get ticky tacky with me, you're not going to do well.
@@JustinStrife
For someone who has 'no interest' in Audi's you sure do have a lot of audi parts on your car.
Ofcourse styling is personal. Yet you can't deny audi's have better quality interiors. It simply is placed higher in the VAG hierarchy.
The bigger (current) 5-6-8-10 cilinder engines also being a prime example of that.
Your drivertrain statement is very funny. They're the (pretty much) same aswell.
The Rs3 is slightly wider, has bigger (yet worse) brakes and a better (great) engine.
The rest of the drivetrain is the same. Both use haldex and dsg/sTronic.
The manual is quite rare, and to my knowlegde not available on RS3's.
You can mess a lot with cars, and still not know what your talking about. Messing around doesn't equal expertise.
In my region, in Europe, VAG cars with lots of different engines and configuration are very common.
The same applies to the other VAG brands: Seat,Cupra,Skoda (and a few Porshe's) with the same platform sharing.
I've been driving VAG for a long time. Both our current cars are VAG products actually.
An 1.2 tdi 3 cilinder Seat Ibiza estate practical daily.
And an Audi S3 8v 3door hatchback.
The last one is meticulously maintained. So I'm very familiar with the R/s3/rs3 platform.
I can see you wanting to upgrade the mk6. It's engine being good, not great and not as extremely tunable.
It flaws, are mainly do to it's age. As do all older cars.
i cant fw the steering wheel shouldve left it gti but other than that fire
