I think they're gonna have to find a way to make more money off the game for a content extension to happen, but I don't see them doing it with the multiplayer content itself. Charging for weapon kits veers into pay-to-win territory which i think they've been deliberately avoiding getting into, and charging for returning maps would have to cause a split in the playerbase from who can play on those maps and who can't.
With a custom weapon kit system, they could create cosmetic weapon skins players can purchase. The skins no longer have an impact on kits, and can be made faster without them in mind. Paid clothing isnt new to the series (Amiibo), and would be another more likely possibility that isn't another Expansion Pass addition.
@@pocket2496 they wouldn't do that in an update. Like how squid roll and the s3 lobby couldn't be added to s2 in a patch. That's basically overhauling the entire game.
One way they could do this is by going the Super Mario 3d world + bowsers fury route. Let new players buy both for the base game + expansion for $70, or current players pay $20 to access the expansion. Essentially holding a mini game within splatoon 3. This would of course come with a new hub, and from a lore standpoint maybe this hub isn't yet regulated by the general rules of turf war, so weapons that are outlawed in the base game are allowed here. This would divide the playerbase and stop the issue of P2W since if you don't have the expansion, you won't be able to see the new weapons/gear at all (aside from maybe private battles). Also without regulation in this new hub, it would allow the devs to try out new gamemodes. Such as a 5v5 or battle royale. If the community likes it, then they'll be regulated and put into splatoon 4. If not then you could just as easily say they got outlawed. This, alongside a new single player campaign would be a great way for them to essentially build a splatoon 4 from the splatoon 3 mainframe, giving them more time to work on the actual splatoon 4 but also giving the community some MUCH needed content.
I just feel like Multiplayer Content, at least in terms of 3rd kits, just CANNOT be paid content. Here are a few scenarios: = = = = = Kits cost money but are weak/underwhelming: Nobody wants to buy them - - - - - Kits cost money but are balanced correctly: People will think about buying them, but ultimately not many people will because it's still the same weapons, subs and specials, just shuffled around. I can speak from experience because for the first year or so after I got into the series in 2018, I literally did not notice that the subs and specials were tied to kits. I just didn't know this system existed and feel like there may be a portion of the casual community who doesn't know either. - - - - - Kits cost money but are way stronger than old kits: People will call them Pay to win, because at the end of the day, they are. - - - - - = = = = = I just don't think there is any way to make 3rd kits cost money in a sensible way. The only thing I could kinda see being Paywalled is another multiplayer mode (as in Salmon-Regular-Tableturf) or another ranked mode, but even having ranked modes be locked would just feel wrong. - - At the end of the day, I'm personally hoping for new kits to go along with another wave of advertising around the Switch 2 launch and then Splatoon 4 around late 2026/early 2027.
I also think it sets a bad precedent for future Nintendo games, because it could give them the opportunity to just tax every part of Splatoon to the point where it fully becomes another Fortnite or Sims.
This is what I’m thinking as well. Splatoon 3 content extension at the time of the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 with a lot of fans already moving on from the game. Most people who want to play Splatoon 3 already bought the game in the first place. I’m not against content extension but this late into its lifespan feels off. Third kits I will wholeheartedly welcome but anything beyond that I’m unsure if it’s worth their time and effort.
2:50 THIS. I really really want the devs to add a banner or a gear piece for like an insane amount of prlz such as 100.000 or something like in salmon run with golden banners, i personally find side order very captivating and would love to show it off in multiplayer, it's a shocker how they didn't do it on release tbh
0:24 I’ve seen too many people saying “splatoon 4 WILL come out this year! Cause if it doesn’t I’ll be mad” And I’m like, guys, please, no, shut up 😭 there’s no way in hell it comes out this year, and if it does then I’ll be mad, it should be at least Q4 2026 before S4 releases
@ maybe? I feel like it would still be a little early tbh, I’d prefer march 2027 at the earliest imo. But I suppose summer 2026 wouldn’t be too bad? If they gave it a good post release I mean
splatoon 3 took 5 years and its a heap of garbage imo. i left that shit in 2024 and play rivals now on my ps5. Its cool if splat 4 doesn't come out this year or maybe even next AS LONG AS third kits are added to 3 but if it doesn't even come out in 2026 then they have to add third kits to every weapon bc Im sorry but the game isn't good enough to stand on its own in its current state for 2 more years.
I dont want s3 to go the way of mk8 where instead of getting a new game they just keep updating the base game. S3 has a solid foundation, but I would still prefer them work on something new for switch 2. Things like new modes, new weapon classes, kit reworks aren't things you can really do in an expansion, not to mention if we go all of switch 2 without any singleplayer updates that would drive people mad
We need more options and additions for private battle. From splatfest stages to adjustable game rule(infinite special, base swim speed, etc.) Or just let us play challenges in PB will work too
I want the devs to continue content on 3, because I really want Splatoon 4 to take time to be unique in aesthetic and gameplay! Like the difference between Battlefield 1942, and Battlefield 2142. With three modern era Splatoon Games under their belt, what would a different era be like?
All right I have a steaming hot take here. Having a mouse and keyboard setup for Splatoon is absolutely NOT a good idea. I’ve played too many shooter games where there’s a huge divide between MaK players and controller. And what I like about Splatoon is how relatively even each player is when it comes to control schemes. The introduction of what most shooter players genuinely agree is a better control scheme will essentially cause a rift in the player base and your skill will be hard locked since you don’t have the pinpoint accuracy of a mouse.
If anything, incorporating mouse controls would benefit gyro since it could force Nintendo to make the gyro act more like a mouse (which is often the best implementation anyway, as seen in Fortnite & CoD).
@@Neoxon619 if Splatoon 4 gyro behaved like MaK I would probably drop the series honestly. I'm just too used the aiming from 2 and 3. 3 already changed too much of the feel for me :/
There is already a huge divide between motion and sticks, I don't know a single top player that uses sticks currently. So I don't think MaK changes anything other then just adding another option, the most popular one for the genre of the game. Not adding it feels like the equivalent of keeping 3D games using a D-Pad. People should be able to play the scheme they want, and it hurts the game right now that other options are limited. If you want to think about bridging the divide, that gap instead needs to be about if sticks should have added options or things like aim assist to make them more even, since currently it has none. Mouse and Keyboard right now while prolly better then Gryo is a much smaller gap, I don't think most pros would change unless they are also good at some PC shooters.
i think an important thing to point out is that M&K might not end up being as amazing on Splatoon as it is on other shooters. they're working off a console-exclusive setup right now, and using one of the joycons as a mouse might end up being pretty strange to use. they could easily be even control schemes rather than one being better than the other
An update I'd love to see that nobody really talks about is bulk buying from the Shel-Drone and Cypher's Siftings. If I can only get one reward per day, I should be allowed to buy multiple at the same time, and just receive one per day via the lobby. They could even have a little message that says how many you have on the way. It would take a little tedium out of having to go around doing my dailies, since it's mostly just walking around for a few seconds, then like ten seconds of menuing, for both Alterna and the Order Spire. My daily task list includes: -Buying a pull from the Shell-Out Machine and logging the result -Checking the shops for gear from specific brands (I'm trying to get gold badges for every brand right now) -Claiming my item from Cypher, menuing to that location, wait for the loading screen, buying another, menuing out, wait for the loading screen -Claiming my item from Sheldon, menuing to that location, wait for the loading screen, buying another, menuing out, wait for the loading screen -Lastly, since solo modes put you offline, you have to go to one of the online lobbies (the tower or Grizzco) and wait to be connected, at which time the game tells you maps and modes have been updated, and then it has to reload and connect *again* THEN I can start my actual play session. It would be hugely appreciated if we could cut out those last three things, as they really do become tiresome timesinks.
this is something i hadn't considered until recently, but a big factor against splatoon 4 happening sooner than we think is animal crossing. new horizons sold a bajillion copies so i bet nintendo would prioritize getting a new one out within the first 1 or 2 years of switch 2 (similar to how the new mario kart is almost certainly gonna be a launch title). since the two franchises share a lot of devs, i think an s3 content extension would be much more likely if we get anything.
I think we’ll know in April with the switch 2 first year games lineup. The studio that makes Splatoon has also worked on Animal Crossing historically. If they announce a new Animal Crossing then Splatoon 4 is several years away and we’re probably getting some additional content. If they don’t announce an Animal Crossing it’s much less likely. And obviously if Splatoon 4 is announced we won’t be getting anything for 3. Even if they are planning 3rd kits and new content I wouldn’t expect it till summer. Releasing for the spring season would reveal more than Nintendo wants about Switch 2 games before the official announcement.
Theres the archway behind the story mode entrance with construction tape i always thought was going to become something. I swear i hear a gong sound when you're close to it and I fully expected it to unlock with side order but no dice. It would be cool for an expansion where theres more salmon run content, 3rd kits, map reworks, new fests and eggstra work, and that gateway led to a social hub. A place where people could post looking for teamates for certain ranks, modes or purposes. Leaderboards and splatoon art posts. Mini games from games past and maybe a new one. I could see that giving splatoon more life to last the wait till splatoon 4.
I don't think an expansion is likely since it would require more things to do. Quite honestly, I think a bonus patch is more likely, I think all weapons getting 3rd kits is one of those adds (long time to test out kits and features and gather data so they don't kill the meta game like with MPU and need to do a years worth on patches to fix it) but also add maybe 1-2 map reworks? I also think this would be the update where PB's will have all tricolor maps and nighttime maps as well. (Hopefully pb ranked night maps?)
I actually made my own video talking about why Splatoon 3 could get more updates because it makes A LOT of sense when you think about it. New system and Splatoon 10 year anniversary? This would also give them more time to work on Splatoon 4 and keep the player base busy.
I think it's WAY too early to expect a Splatoon 4 anytime soon. If it were to release only 2-3 years after splatoon 3, I would actually be concerned for the quality of the game and the health of the dev team
I’m not gonna lie I have so many memories already from two years ago with Splatoon three seeing all the items I built up gone because of having to move to the fourth one is gonna be weak
I dont mind either option that much but id rather have a content extension, i dont feel like the series is in desperate need of a new game like it was in late s2. If they do just the new game route they should definitely take their time making it
I think the alternate Salmon Run modes would work better as new additions to 4 than extensions for 3: adding them this late in the game's lifespan sounds like a lot, and a potential sequel would in turn need even bigger things in order to make the passage S3->S4 feel better than S2->S3. They could maybe take a middle ground by adding one in the current game and saving more for the sequel.
Honestly, I want more gear. Yeah I also really want a new ranked mode...but I'm still looking at the old Japan exclusive gear from splat 2 and thinking dang it....that gear was fresh 💔
Having an expanded story mode with Deep Cut (paid update), that also then comes with third kits and map reworks and whatnot (free update), could be a good way to tick both worlds. There's a Big Thing you can draw attention to and make money off of, while also providing the free content that we're used to as part of seasons. I just don't think Salmon Run is popular enough in anyone's eyes for it to be THE focus of thingy and what they're hoping to make money off of.
A content extension would definitely be the best way for them to promote the backwards compatibility portion of the console. One of the “big five” of their games, actively still has an online service and is still getting content like Fests Eggstra and Big Run. They could also make a Sheldon’s Picks themed console like how we have the S2 Joy Cons and S3 OLED. It feels a little too perfect to happen
I'd love to see some sort of Side Project as a prequel to Side Order based on that concept art. As neat as what we have is, I would love to see what was originally planned
Splatoon 3 was definetly just a way to hold people over until Splatoon 4, the actual big step up for the series. That would explain the lack of third kits and new modes
Splatoon 3 was supposed to be the “ultimate” game that brought everything back and “concluded the original trilogy.” It definitely wasn’t supposed to be a throwaway filler game, even though it absolutely feels like one now.
As someone who's been pushing for a 3 Deluxe/extension since probably 2023, I think it's the likeliest thing to happen for the sole reason of "it's easier/faster/cheaper to push out a new version of 3 that reuses everything from the old version to do new things"
I'm torn because as much as I'd hate having to basically "start over" again with S4 I also think a lot of the systems in S3 (kits, gear/abilities, map rotations, splatfests, etc.) need complete overhauls that aren't feasible without going into a new game.
As much as I like the idea of content expansion for S3, one thing I worry is that they might split the playerbase where Switch 1 players cant match nor play against Switch 2 players or else they are at risk of having bad online connection.
One way they could do this is by going the Super Mario 3d world + bowsers fury route. Let new players buy both for the base game + expansion for $70, or current players pay $20 to access the expansion. Essentially holding a mini game within splatoon 3. I REALLY hope they never make any multiplayer content paid. Online games becoming pay to win is always horrible, seeing one of my favorite game series ever going down that route would absolutely break my heart.
I belive a little story mode focused on Salmon Run mechanics and Lil Judge will be the paid mode exclusive for Switch 2 (like the Expansion Pass for MK8D), then the Salmon Run Updates + Third Kits + new gears for some months will be the free content for both versions (remember Switch 2 is Retrocompatible), them Splatoon 4 can be focused in the GrandFestival results, With focus on a larger discovery of human structures that survived the collapse and perhaps the return of Commander Tartar
I really just want more updates for splatoon 3 this is my favorite game in the series and I just want Nintendo to add more content to the game instead of Nintendo making a splatoon 4 that starts off with not enough content and only gets 2 years of free updates before the splatoon game release cycle continues.
I want to see splatoon but you can play as all the named characters. Like call it splatoon octo-weaponry and each idol uses their weapon with a expanded moveset
I don't know how much effort Nintendo will put into it, but I really do think Splatoon 3 will continue to be pushed for the Switch 2 with some kind of new content. Aside from it being much easier than somehow already having a 4th Splatoon game ready, it's really good for this franchise to set the precedent that when a new game comes out, it won't lose all support after 2 years.
I don't see them putting a lot of development time into new assets for Splatoon 3 at this point. The simplest way they could give the game a bit of Switch 2 momentum is to implement joy-con mouse control and add a collection of third kits. They could use the kits to test ideas for S4 weapon kits and use the mouse control as playtesting data to refine it for S4.
Considering May 2025 is also the month of Splatoon's 10th anniversary, and the Switch 2 releasing around that same timeframe, I can absolutely see a SMALL content drop coinciding with the release of the system, but probably a one-and-done and not an extension. Something like third kits, maybe one map rework, and the ability to use mouse controls on Switch 2 (and possibly even on Switch 1 if using S2 Joycons? niche scenario but it could happen lol). And y'know... Tricolor in PBs we still need that.
Here’s what I want: for some reason I really want the shot replicas to have special trizookas. Order could have a white main part with some of the glowing effects from side order. The hero shot could have a yellow trizooka with some form or logos or damage. It’s a weird thing to want but ur telling me that I played the full story mode and a 25$ dlc just to get a splattershot reskin???
I’m all for a content extension, I agree there, but I have a problem, if we’re not getting a Splatoon 4, but instead extending Splat 3, that would severely affect the great ending it had with grand fest, that felt like the culmination of the whole series and it was epic! I know there’s still Splatfests going on, but those clearly have “after-party vibes”, and we all know they’re not building up to anything different, I too would love third kits, but it seems like the party is over and we need a new entry that starts a new legacy.
I want to see a salmon run rework/new mode in either Splatoon 3 or 4, where it’s a rouge like, where you get upgrades at the end of the round by spending power eggs, because they are currently not that useful, and there are like boss waves, special waves, standard waves, new waves, etc
While I think S3 Deluxe is maybe possible. I personally don't think there's ever a world where a **paid* multiplayer shooter expansion would happen in the current gaming industry from EA let alone Nintendo with Splatoon. That died with Star Wars Battlefront EA 2015 a decade ago. Would cause a ton of outcry with P2W, splitting the playerbase among maps and possibly hurt the credibility of the competite scene. Splitting mainline content or features into paid never goes well even for the biggest of franchises in pvp shooters. And I think certain aspects of Nintendo's reputation is worth far more to them than even x30 what they'd make from paid weapon skins or battlepass cosmetics even if it meant the content factory got turned back on. Smash Bros Ultimate and fighting games/game player's expectations are very very different than the rest of the industry especially shooter game players. I can't imagine the pressure from people to have third kits be weak if they became paid
the paid update for multiplayer could be similar to how some games on playstation and xbox have a discounted way of buying a game ported to the next generation, and then they could make a switch 2 version of the game available for purchase otherwise
Kinda hoping for new game since I want them to expand on the Ink Surge/Roll. Having a "Player" specific mechanic as opposed to a weapon locked one would allow your skill to help supplement your own weapons weaknesses. I just like parrying and I wish it did more (or protected better) :P
Tbh I doubt there will be any major updates like a new dlc or expansion of content as that is what I would say in a more conventional sense. Rationally thinking about how the final fest and the devs road map of returning seasonal splatfest and revived big run events with no real update pertaining to new weapons or dlc would say that they are just about dine with this game in terms of major work. An encentric immaginative and ennovative wild side of me thinks that they could make a DLC that will somehow tie the future and the past in a episodic finish to the game overall. A battle regarding the finalization of Mr Grizz and Grizzco defeating Mr Grizz for good and shutting down Grizzco. All three groups Callie Marie Off the hook and Deep cut along with Agent 3 agent 4 agent 8 and the recent agent 5 Dj Octavio will work togather to defeat Mr grizz after Mr Grizz returns from space with a new plan to make a fuzzy apocolyps. The Grand Big run made me thing that it has a lot to do with Mr grizzes return as I feel it odd that he would just not use 999,999+ golden salmonoid eggs with untold power and potential and possible even use the great Zapfish. The final chapter and the end of an era en exhange for a new one where Dj Octavio finally can reconcile and shut down a hostile past in extange for a redeemed future. Splatoon 4 will feature all new struggles and all new forms of culture and even a new way of life for the already fully communed Octoling/Inkling society. The great onctarian war is finally over. Splatoon 4 That being said who will the villain be have we seen hints of them in the past? Will there be time travel? I am pretty excited eather way. Also owning a place to crash will be a new trend and they will show off their neat setups in their newly owned living place. Dripped out with various things that can be unlocked from Hotlantis now more popular than ever. Turfwars have also become a bigger sensation now being aired on tv where inklings and octos even have professional teams that compete for glory and gold. Splatfest will take place in an arena like environment as aposed to the usual festival nights where tages are decked with audience members cheering for teams and themes of the event. Immagine if Callie and marrie arrive in a protal to tell the now soon to be agent that they have to go to the past to stop a vilain from rewriting history and have to go through various parts if Splatoon time verse. We see how humans fell how the octarian war started heck we even get to see what Captain cuttlefish was like when in his early years and why the great octarian war even started. Ah I think I am getting ahead of myself here. I am looking forward to what new things happen in future updates/installments of this series.
Honestly... my top guess is the team is moving on to make Animal Crossing (a big system seller for the switch) to sell the switch 2 allng with seasonal content like new horizons had, and the next splatoon game is probably a good few years beyond that. Since its the same internal team for both franchises.
I'd be more than happy with a content extension for Splatoon 3, but if I'm going to have to pay for something, I'd like for it to be for single player content as opposed to multiplayer content Specifically, I'd like to see them add a new single player campaign for paid DLC, like we get an aftermath to the Rise of the Mammalians story, or maybe a prequel chapter. One of the big reasons I was drawn to Splatoon in the first place was the story mode, and I'd more than willing to pay for some extra chapters in Splatoon 3's story
We don't need joycons that can be used like a mouse The switch has usb ports they could have always just let you plug a mouse Mario maker on Wii u could have just use a mouse like Mario paint on SNES Would be cool if they added Mario paint to nso
I'm betting on content extension to basically stall for time and give something for the launch of the console but there's no way they could have a sequel ready in time for the launch. Especially if mouse controls are a thing Splatoon and Metroid prime are the best options Nintendo has to promote that feature
I think the only thing throwing off this whole situation is the Switch 2 having cross compatibility. Mario Kart 8 was 3 years old when the Switch released and we still got it immediately on Switch that same year with all the DLC from the Wii U and new content. With the Switch 2 having backwards compatibility that throws a wrench into the situation and yet I feel like this can still work. Just give us a Splatoon 3 deluxe/+/definitive Edition physical copy so you have a new Splatoon thing with a new box art and stuff in store shelves next to all the other cool new switch games for the people who haven't made the jump (I'll let you be the judge as to if this re-release would just be on Switch, just on Switch 2 or cross-gen). I can see Nintendo throwing ALL the DLC plus the new content mentioned in the video on there. As for people who already own the game we would just get the stuff in base Splatoon 3 as DLC, some stuff free, other stuff paid maybe, which would kinda stink considering we already paid so much but I can see it happen. I can also see them putting new paid DLC in the NSO expansion pack. But yeah I think being able to still get some mileage out of the game you already own will be pretty great
I think: - If they're doing any sort of extension for Splatoon 3 to update it for Switch 2, they'll probably do a "Switch 2 exclusive" bundle or rerelease (which would be the exact same game with maybe a few gear items and the DLC packaged in) as well just to drum up new users and keep it profitable. - Any multiplayer updates (new stages, third kits= will *not* be behind a paywall. For all Nintendo's faults, they know that that would cause some outrage. - It's still Nintendo, so honestly a content extension would be a welcome surprise and we might just have a big ol' gap or *just* Splatoon 3 getting JoyMouse-mode.
If they did extend the content i feel like these would work: Taking pictures with more than one amibo with new poses A customizable room like the lockers an offline mode where you battle/train against bots or those same amibo Actual online table turf matches
I feel like it would have been nice to get a content extension if things hadn't ended the way they did. They've already done a massive celebration of the game's end with grand festival, and haven't given any new content since. I feel like starting back up again wouldn't get anyone new interested in playing the same way a new game would.
I definitely prefer a content expansion a thousand times, even if it were paid for, that extends the life of the game enough so that Splatoon 4 is not rushed and learns from the mistakes or things that did not work quite well in S3, PLEASE NINTENDO 😭
Honestly, I just want third kits and then I'm okay with moving on to the next game whenever that is. With only so much room for expansion and potentially conflicting concepts like paid add-ons and fewer resources dedicated to the next game, I think a small but meaningful extension would be that of third kits.
I think we're coming to that decisive point where some new Smash Bros type game or successor will steal everything away from any possible splatoon updates
It seems more likely that we'll get S4 or something new rather than a content extention. BUT, and this is a massive but, S4, or whatever comes out, could be a prequel/ spinoff like hyrule warriors was to BOTW. That way, there's a new game on the console and people can still play S3.
I feel like for the first year of the switch 2 we should get a spin off, either a rhythm game or a single player campaign that's like Octo Expansion with a more open world feel like Bowsers Fury And just have third kits for splatoon 3 and either fix the maps or add a whole new set of returning/ new maps
I don't see paid multiplayer updates being a thing at all, on account of Nintendo Online already being a subscription. Splatoon 3 is currently THE online game on the Switch, revitalizing it alongside the launch of the Switch 2 would immediately get more subscriptions on board. If they add any kind of paywall, it'll be for a new campaign while Side Order gets added to the Nintendo Online Expansion tier.
@lancergv2331 Mario Kart has always been fully playable offline, all the content remains there. I personally only tried out online play after like 1000 hours of playing and already owning a subscription for Splatoon. Splatoon on the other hand has almost all its content locked behind an online subscription, you can't even buy new clothes or weapons without one. I'd be shocked if even 10% of Splatoon players didn't have an online subscription.
@ I mean yes but also MK is just waaaaay bigger than Splatoon. A fraction of MK9 players subscribing dwarfs whatever even a Splatoon 4 could manage. I imagine MK9 is gonna lean harder into online too tbh.
@ Mario Kart is much bigger than Splatoon, to say it "dwarfs" anything it does seems a little dramatic. My point is that Splatoon is much better at convincing players to buy Nintendo Online for the first time whereas Mario Kart is a nice extra reason to continue buying it.
@ It’s really not dramatic. If we assume 1/5 MK8 players subscribe to NSO while 100% of Splatoon players sub then MK8 still generated more subs. A sub is a sub. It’s better to spread out games that generate subs, and MK9 will absolutely generate a ton.
I think 3rd weapon sets is gonna be all we get in terms of new content paired with ongoing events like Splatfest, Big Run and Eggstra Work, but also a 3rd Anniversary Splatfest. At start Nintendo Switch 2 is likely relying on other IPs to have new games, namely Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and others. Splatoon 4 is likely gonna be a second half of 2026 title at earliest and that is really better in my book, as it means more development time for Splatoon 4. Considering the Nintendo Switch 2 might not even be out until late 2025, Splatoon 4 wouldn't really be that late to the party.
I'd prefer content extension, and my biggest hope is Deep Cut getting it's own dlc episode. I feel OtH getting a second DLC episode in a different game was an attempt to capture lightning in a bottle for a second time, but it robbed Deep Cut of some much needed screentime without anyone else intruding.
I feel like the time for more S3 DLC has passed, maybe if it was announced 6 months ago, but not while SW2 is around the corner. I'd rather they focus on making S4 a big leap forward/fresh slate, even if that means it debuts mid-gen.
What I want them to do is add to Splatoon 3. New and Returning Maps. Triple Kits for every weapon. Etc. What I expect to happen is Splatoon 4 is a mid 2026 or early 2027 release
Team Past won Grandfest, therefore the next idol group is gonna be the Cuttlefish DJ Octavio Podcast.
you might be joking, but i'd be down for that.
Can't believe we could get a divorce arc dlc story
They held the best ideas for last.

I think they're gonna have to find a way to make more money off the game for a content extension to happen, but I don't see them doing it with the multiplayer content itself.
All I wanted for Squidmas was an Endless Salmon Run mode
Here so early the title still has version information on it
I just feel like Multiplayer Content, at least in terms of 3rd kits, just CANNOT be paid content. Here are a few scenarios:
= = = = =
Kits cost money but are weak/underwhelming: Nobody wants to buy them
- - - - -
Kits cost money but are balanced correctly: People will think about buying them, but ultimately not many people will because it's still the same weapons, subs and specials, just shuffled around. I can speak from experience because for the first year or so after I got into the series in 2018, I literally did not notice that the subs and specials were tied to kits. I just didn't know this system existed and feel like there may be a portion of the casual community who doesn't know either.
- - - - -
Kits cost money but are way stronger than old kits: People will call them Pay to win, because at the end of the day, they are.
- - - - -
= = = = =
I just don't think there is any way to make 3rd kits cost money in a sensible way. The only thing I could kinda see being Paywalled is another multiplayer mode (as in Salmon-Regular-Tableturf) or another ranked mode, but even having ranked modes be locked would just feel wrong.
- -
At the end of the day, I'm personally hoping for new kits to go along with another wave of advertising around the Switch 2 launch and then Splatoon 4 around late 2026/early 2027.
I was extremely surprised nothing costed 8,888 Prlz
0:24 I’ve seen too many people saying “splatoon 4 WILL come out this year! Cause if it doesn’t I’ll be mad” And I’m like, guys, please, no, shut up 😭 there’s no way in hell it comes out this year, and if it does then I’ll be mad, it should be at least Q4 2026 before S4 releases
Mario Kart will be a launch title, I expect Nintendo wants an Animal Crossing out prior to '25 Holidays
Maybe in Summer '26?
I can't stomach s3s peer to peer connection anymore. 4 NEEDS servers man.
@@epicgamerzfail4575 That is exactly what they had done to Wiiu
Maybe a spinoff
I like to imagine that Chara begins his day by snorting twice the legal maximum dose of copium.
We need more options and additions for private battle. From splatfest stages to adjustable game rule(infinite special, base swim speed, etc.)
Or just let us play challenges in PB will work too
I want the devs to continue content on 3, because I really want Splatoon 4 to take time to be unique in aesthetic and gameplay!
Yeah, I've always seen MaK as cheating. It just seems like easy mode to me. Gyro feels better anyway.
Mouse and Keyboard right now while prolly better then Gryo is a much smaller gap, I don't think most pros would change unless they are also good at some PC shooters.
i think an important thing to point out is that M&K might not end up being as amazing on Splatoon as it is on other shooters. they're working off a console-exclusive setup right now, and using one of the joycons as a mouse might end up being pretty strange to use. they could easily be even control schemes rather than one being better than the other
Hmmm what is 8ready* ?
Clearly it means that splatoon 8 is ready to release!
When you start the Splatoon 2 DLC
Meant to be a note to self that the video is ready to be scheduled when the thumbnail is done then I forgot to remove it
Fair enough
That's actually what got me to watch the video
An update I'd love to see that nobody really talks about is bulk buying from the Shel-Drone and Cypher's Siftings. If I can only get one reward per day, I should be allowed to buy multiple at the same time, and just receive one per day via the lobby. They could even have a little message that says how many you have on the way. It would take a little tedium out of having to go around doing my dailies, since it's mostly just walking around for a few seconds, then like ten seconds of menuing, for both Alterna and the Order Spire.
My daily task list includes:
-Buying a pull from the Shell-Out Machine and logging the result
-Checking the shops for gear from specific brands (I'm trying to get gold badges for every brand right now)
-Claiming my item from Cypher, menuing to that location, wait for the loading screen, buying another, menuing out, wait for the loading screen
-Claiming my item from Sheldon, menuing to that location, wait for the loading screen, buying another, menuing out, wait for the loading screen
-Lastly, since solo modes put you offline, you have to go to one of the online lobbies (the tower or Grizzco) and wait to be connected, at which time the game tells you maps and modes have been updated, and then it has to reload and connect *again*
THEN I can start my actual play session. It would be hugely appreciated if we could cut out those last three things, as they really do become tiresome timesinks.
I’ve always said the closer Splatoon 4 is to Switch 2’s release, the more the franchise’s future will suffer
Splatoon 3 had so much potential! I feel like more could've been added. Let's just say Nintendo played it safe.
Out of curiosity, why?
@xeldalachyrule less dev time, lower game quality
@@watcherwhowatches6725 I see
this is something i hadn't considered until recently, but a big factor against splatoon 4 happening sooner than we think is animal crossing. new horizons sold a bajillion copies so i bet nintendo would prioritize getting a new one out within the first 1 or 2 years of switch 2 (similar to how the new mario kart is almost certainly gonna be a launch title). since the two franchises share a lot of devs, i think an s3 content extension would be much more likely if we get anything.
Here before the title change! Very interesting analysis Chara! It's cool how both of these topics could be a possiblity.

hot take: no splatoon 3 expansion or splatoon 4, SPLATOON 29 IS NEXT GAME!!!
Fascinating
My body is 8ready*
I dont care i just want more splatoon 🙃
What a timing i was just about to watch your videos🙏 Chara posted the day is saved
@landensplatoonYeah I agree with you. I hope there will be cool things for Splatoon's 10-year anniversary.
I think it's WAY too early to expect a Splatoon 4 anytime soon. If it were to release only 2-3 years after splatoon 3, I would actually be concerned for the quality of the game and the health of the dev team
How dare yt hide this video for 24 seconds

6:47 ah yes, I remember when this was trending
1:20 'More than usual' Doubt with the tier lists this guy puts out :P
I can't imagine the pressure from people to have third kits be bad if they became P2W paywall locked
I think that there would make a mixbag. Some more paid singleplayer content + a new season or kits or whatever they can imagine
Editor putting the COOK in COOKie this video
Considering May 2025 is also the month of Splatoon's 10th anniversary, and the Switch 2 releasing around that same timeframe, I can absolutely see a SMALL content drop coinciding with the release of the system, but probably a one-and-done and not an extension. Something like third kits, maybe one map rework, and the ability to use mouse controls on Switch 2 (and possibly even on Switch 1 if using S2 Joycons? niche scenario but it could happen lol). And y'know... Tricolor in PBs we still need that.
We're getting a digital only, $30 campaign only mode exclusive to the NS2
i want a story focused deep cut dlc more than i want to graduate college
Here’s what I want: for some reason I really want the shot replicas to have special trizookas. Order could have a white main part with some of the glowing effects from side order. The hero shot could have a yellow trizooka with some form or logos or damage. It’s a weird thing to want but ur telling me that I played the full story mode and a 25$ dlc just to get a splattershot reskin???
I personally would like S4 to be really good at launch and fleshed out, so whatever that takes Nintendo
Honestly I could just see a whole new game entirely, it's just crazy to see a splatoon 2 and a 3 released on the same console
Not a stick player, but would like to see improvements for stick controls for stick players
one of the things I'm most excited for spl4toon is the single player. I love what they do with it and want to see what they do for splatoon 4.
My dream is that we get a past themed spinoff title, perhaps singleplayer, that can allow for splatoon 3 to have a content extension alongside it
I don’t care what they do, I just need them to tell me Agent 4 is still alive
4:02 Switch Axe in Splatoon LET'S GOOOO!!!
the paid update for multiplayer could be similar to how some games on playstation and xbox have a discounted way of buying a game ported to the next generation, and then they could make a switch 2 version of the game available for purchase otherwise
All three groups
Callie Marie Off the hook and Deep cut along with Agent 3 agent 4 agent 8 and the recent agent 5 Dj Octavio will work togather to defeat Mr grizz after Mr Grizz returns from space with a new plan to make a fuzzy apocolyps.
Splatoon 4
That being said who will the villain be have we seen hints of them in the past?
I'd be more than happy with a content extension for Splatoon 3, but if I'm going to have to pay for something, I'd like for it to be for single player content as opposed to multiplayer content
Specifically, I'd like to see them add a new single player campaign for paid DLC, like we get an aftermath to the Rise of the Mammalians story, or maybe a prequel chapter. One of the big reasons I was drawn to Splatoon in the first place was the story mode, and I'd more than willing to pay for some extra chapters in Splatoon 3's story
Please god I need more Side Order content because I love that mode but I've played the current levels to death already lol
We don't need joycons that can be used like a mouse
The switch has usb ports they could have always just let you plug a mouse
Mario maker on Wii u could have just use a mouse like Mario paint on SNES
Would be cool if they added Mario paint to nso
I'm betting on content extension to basically stall for time and give something for the launch of the console but there's no way they could have a sequel ready in time for the launch. Especially if mouse controls are a thing Splatoon and Metroid prime are the best options Nintendo has to promote that feature
not having 3rd kits for a game with the 3 motif is crazy
But yeah I think being able to still get some mileage out of the game you already own will be pretty great
I think:
- If they're doing any sort of extension for Splatoon 3 to update it for Switch 2, they'll probably do a "Switch 2 exclusive" bundle or rerelease (which would be the exact same game with maybe a few gear items and the DLC packaged in) as well just to drum up new users and keep it profitable.
If they did extend the content i feel like these would work:
Taking pictures with more than one amibo with new poses
A customizable room like the lockers
an offline mode where you battle/train against bots or those same amibo
Actual online table turf matches
I feel like it would have been nice to get a content extension if things hadn't ended the way they did. They've already done a massive celebration of the game's end with grand festival, and haven't given any new content since. I feel like starting back up again wouldn't get anyone new interested in playing the same way a new game would.
0:49 did i just see that right, he’s playing my MAIN on KBM?? i have to invest in that😭
3TH KITS REFERENCE!!
I definitely prefer a content expansion a thousand times, even if it were paid for, that extends the life of the game enough so that Splatoon 4 is not rushed and learns from the mistakes or things that did not work quite well in S3, PLEASE NINTENDO 😭
Forget third kits, I'm here waiting for fourth kits
Honestly, I just want third kits and then I'm okay with moving on to the next game whenever that is.
With only so much room for expansion and potentially conflicting concepts like paid add-ons and fewer resources dedicated to the next game, I think a small but meaningful extension would be that of third kits.
I think we're coming to that decisive point where some new Smash Bros type game or successor will steal everything away from any possible splatoon updates
I wasn't 8ready for this video
It seems more likely that we'll get S4 or something new rather than a content extention. BUT, and this is a massive but, S4, or whatever comes out, could be a prequel/ spinoff like hyrule warriors was to BOTW. That way, there's a new game on the console and people can still play S3.
I personally shall keep my stick controls until the end of time (motion hurts my hand)
I feel like for the first year of the switch 2 we should get a spin off, either a rhythm game or a single player campaign that's like Octo Expansion with a more open world feel like Bowsers Fury
And just have third kits for splatoon 3 and either fix the maps or add a whole new set of returning/ new maps
Pretty sure it’s actually Mario Kart that’s pushing online subs the most. 9 will probably have significantly expanded online features over 8 too.
Etc.
What I expect to happen is Splatoon 4 is a mid 2026 or early 2027 release
im personally just worried that the new mouse function would make the controlling not so fun to mess with
