Perfect year.We used to buy benzodrex inhalers and cut the pieces up with a knife to get the amphetamine lol We played 4 hour gigs...the night we took the cotton balls we played 6 hours!! I never sung or played like that in my life!!!
We used to get travel sickness pills called Marzine. 70p for a pack of ten. Take the whole packet and start tripping. I went about for 3 days in a cloud of imaginary fog and every now and then someone would appear out the fog and throw things at me. None of it was real. I had a bastard of a sore stomach for the 3 days too. We never did Marzine again.
My unlikely theory about this song, is that it's about rogue pharmacists that sell illegal drugs and substances to people; a drug dealer. The protagonist then says he's gonna tell his friends about him so they all can get some hits.
The word "trip" clued in folks under 30 while the phrase "pharmacist" ensured folks over 30 would tune out. It's about an LSD supplier, most likely Owsley Stanley. Also, the song is a rip off of Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" which itself is a rip off of the Yardbirds' "I'm a Man."
Wow, The Fall nailed this one!

The low life bars would have broken inhalers on the floor.Ah memories.
Wow, I honestly thought Mr Mark e Smith wrote this, what a bangin chooon.quality. 👍 😎
great! I only knew the version of The Fall, fantastic sound
Me too, been thinking this was a Fall original all this time.
Me too! The original sounds pretty good.
Love both this and the Fall.
Also, this great for its time!
A forgotten 1966 Garage masterpiece - a fabulous sound and mad lyrics to match. Absolute must on par with the Sonics, Music Machine and Co.
Forgotten? Haven't you heard of The Fall?
@@troppmann Precisely, many believes it is a The Fall song
Just great...
Reminds me of the Fall's Mark E. Smith. Same voices for sure...
It's strange how much Jeff Nowlen's voice resembles that of Mark E Smith.. or better: Mark resembles Jeff..
This song is FDA approved.
Randy Holden plays a mean Jeff Beck imitation. Also, it's a song about speed.
funny how that is 🤔
Love this and the Fall version.
R.I.P. Larry Brown 1943-2019
this is a tops rock n roll tune. I could listen to 15 bands do this tune, kinda like folks due with Louie Louie.
Dr Albert Hofmann approves of this message.....
To be fair the fall nailed it ....fantastic song
I love the drums at the end of the guitar solo!!! Simple is best 👌🥁👍
That’s my buddy, Danny.
A companion to Dr.Robert.
Shame this didn't make it on to the '67 LP. Awesome Stuff mate. Cheers. I remember me mum wondering what the lyrics were all about.!!!
This was cut on the GNP Crescendo label. They signed with ACTA/Dot in '67, and I doubt that label would have paid to license the two songs.
Thank you for that. Label changes were often an issue.
Mr Pharmacist makes me feel good and so does this record
with less side effect :D
At least ten years ahead of its time.
Awesome song.
MES brought me here...
Wo what a gem
The Fall ! only with no disrespect this original is KILLER 👍
great song, but what are the lyrics from 0:15-0:19: "Mister Pharmacist I insist, can you give me some of the..." what?
Sounds like Spinal Tap's first big hit, "Gimme Some Money"!
Let’s do GSM !
Great tune..
Just excellent.
Better than the Fall when you consider the era it was first composed.
Brilliant!!!!!
Mandatory music!!!!
Reminds me of the Pretty Things’!
Imagine the suits at the record company listening to this in shock.
There weren't suits. GNP was a small label, run by one guy, or something close to one guy.
MR. PHARMACIST operated a candy store.
prescription thugs. :D
GREAT !
Randy Holden's band? Pre Blue Cheer
Yes. He performed that song, as well as Mister You're a Better Man Than I, at the Echolplex in L.A. last month.
Reminds me of "Out Of Focus". I mean "Doctor Please". Blue Cheer...
Never knew it was a cover- by The Fall!
I'm not sure, but I don't think he's asking the pharmacist for a chocolate bar.
Awesome
M.E.S.' ghost led me here, he was jonesing.
Great !
Mr. Pharmacist!
REDOUTABLE EFFICACE YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It goes the original then Tumbleweed then the fall in a respectable third.
Turgid Tumblweed. Mr Pharmacist helping out with the horse.

Wouldn't think of that interpretation as being out of range. This was from the LSD-laced era of the mid 60s after all
@@parasatc8183 I always sing ''GIVE ME SOME L.S.D'' instead of ''GIVE ME SOME ENERGY'' they probably would have too but the song would get banned
@@kelechi_77 The Byrds had a song called Artificial Energy which was pretty much about amphetamines.
@@SM-dt1pr just heard it, that's a pretty good song
ouais moi aussi j'ai sollicité le pharmacien ...et le docteur aussi
Brandon Rogers (as grandpa) : can I speak with the pharmacist please ?
Mr. Pharmacist, give me some L.S.D!
CAME HERE BY THE FALL ALSO LOL
Randy Holden??

Give me some energy...
Give me some L.S.D!
