These sessions with Hakeem worked for Kobe because he never stopped practicing what he learned. My point is no matter what you learn you still have to continue to work on what you learned in order for it to effectively translate to your game
Gil's point was that Hakeem's lessons only work on players who had foundations with good footwork, kobe's dad play ball and kobe played soccer when he was young, bron played WR in high school and had good control of his feet, people who are just picking it up first time with Hakeem aren't learning because he don't know how to teach at their level. Hakeem came out with a interview during Giannis first ring. He’s spoken about possibly coming from the same region as he did due to the familiarity of Giannis last name, hence the bond that Hakeem and Giannis have now.
Gil has a narrow mindset on this. It’s not about copying verbatim Hakeem’s moves. It’s about taking the lesson and allowing the player to shape the moves to the player. Nobody is expecting Giannis to be “Hakeem-esque” on the blocks and post, but if he can develop more moves that are better than what he has because of the teaching then it worked.

All I know is it's effective. Remember, when Lebron couldn't post up Barea and lost the finals partly or mostly because of it. The dude trained with Hakeem and came back with an excellent postup package. Since then, nobody said he has no post up moves. With regard to the amount, it's about how you value your time. If I'm at work or have a business, and I'm making 50,000 a day, if you want my day to be only for you, then pay me 50k. Hakeem is a businessman. He's worth 300 M, and majority of it is not from NBA. Only about 110 million of it is from NBA salary.
And to add, Javale was never that dude so no matter how much or who he trained with, he was never going to be a HOFer. But he became a guy that was able to stay in the league and a lot of that had to do with the KNOWLEDGE and skill he gained from Hakeem. Hell, whose to say Hakeem realized offense wasn't going to be his calling and started training him on how to be a better defender based upon his natural skill set. Maybe his footwork training was more defensive and not offensive.
Amare came to NYC downside of his career.. He didn't have the same athleticism.. He went to work with Hakeem and he was roasting cats in the post... Thats the year D rose won MVP.. Especially when they aren't correcting your mistakes. This is sometimes the problem with many great players teaching others. They don't know how to teach because they just expect it to be done the way as easy as they do it 90% of the time and don't correct mistakes when they see it.

Hakeem isn’t forcing anyone to pay him. Hakeem has a service and that’s his charge for his service. If you don’t want to pay don’t pay. Gilbert has to be one of the most hard headed people. Someone gets paid what they feel they are worth and what the payer feels they are worth.
Can’t teach nothing in a week 😂. Great moves are taught over months and years. Straight finesse from Keem Edit: Obviously a lot of debate. I just wanna know how someone with little to no technical skill in a topic is gonna use what he learned from a couple secessions in an nba game. Now if he was expanding on a part of his game that already exists like driving techniques or something, that would be a little more reasonable. Search up that move Giannis did on AD and tell me Keem didn’t rob him 😂
Pay him what they want. I really hate seeing a big man with no post game. Or anyway of scoring unless it’s a dunk. 7 foot 30% 3 pt shooting big men is sickening
Problem is you can't prevent a 20/30 yo PRO to not travel like that bc this is something you start to learn at basketball school at 7/10 yo and integrate as a natural motion till the point that you can feel there's something wrong in your motion every time you travel, it becomes natural. American bball money machine never cared about that in its obsession for commercial entertainment and being "world champions" and transformed a technical positional game into a brute-force run and gun fest with no fundamentals. When it became too obvious for the rest of the world, they changed the rules with semantics, gather, cero step (this one is genius) and all that crap, the "experts" will tell you that doing fundamentals wrong is not travel anymore, no one knows what is travel anymore and "you know nothing about bball" so every one is happy and with the money in their pockets. :)

gil still made no sense because if u hoop u an easily pick something up and add it to ur game dont matter when u start lol literally watched harden when he was doing the one leg shot from three i tried it for a week then i was hitting it at runs lol
@@deeswagg21how was Gil wrong? Who in the league is doin ANYTHING Hakeem’s doin? Who? NOBODY! “Ya sound STUPID!”😂😂

They went to him to learn the game. To try and pick up that killer instinct. The main point is it’s only 50K ! Giannis makes $500K per game yall ! Let that soak in ! Lol … that’s $250K per half … $125K per quarter … so what he paid for a week working with one of the goats , he makes in 5 mins ! 😂 stop playing !
Not to mention the investment portfolio he has, he probably makes another $50k a month just off that
GREATNESS DONT CHARGE GREATNESS 😤😤😤😤😤
Mccants finally right. Gil can’t admit he is wrong. Giannis said Hakeem not charging a dime 🤷🏾♂️
Mccants is an absolute disgrace to youtube!! Clown with the crown
Y’all sound fuckin stupid. Who in the league is doin his moves TODAY? NOBODY! That’s Gil’s point. “Ya sound STUPID!” 😂
Neither is wrong though, they just look at it from a dif angle
Mccants really be right more time than not y'all just like to follow the leader and go with gil
@@704jizzle2 I don’t follow none of them, I think they both just be talking bs sometime.
Javale’s post moves improved a lot in recent years compared with his Washington years.
He probably trained with him more than a week. One week is not long enough to learn footwork
@@kenneth9338 gil making dumb shi up
@@IknowMoreThanYou he rlly not
@@IknowMoreThanYou they arguing 2 different points neither of them wrong fr
And to add, Javale was never that dude so no matter how much or who he trained with, he was never going to be a HOFer. But he became a guy that was able to stay in the league and a lot of that had to do with the KNOWLEDGE and skill he gained from Hakeem. Hell, whose to say Hakeem realized offense wasn't going to be his calling and started training him on how to be a better defender based upon his natural skill set. Maybe his footwork training was more defensive and not offensive.
It’s bad when I’m siding with McCants 😂
Gilbert out of pocket talking about another man’s pockets but on the topic mccants right on this
No he's not.
This might be one of the first times i agree with Mccants lol
I’m shocked Rashad came with logic and facts today
He normally does for the most part.
First time for everything lol
I can’t believe McCants actually made a strong argument
Well he did start off with a Patrick Beverley line😭
Then when giannis still doesn’t have good footwork? Why’d we float over the 50 big men working with Hakeem?
Amare came to NYC downside of his career.. He didn't have the same athleticism.. He went to work with Hakeem and he was roasting cats in the post... Thats the year D rose won MVP.. Amare was leading Mvp candidate before Melo trade was made and he got hurt late in season.. Agent Zero doing a good job talking, sounds good selling podcast..😊
Y'all trippin if you hating on Hakeem
Nobody is discrediting Hakeem the player they’re talking about Hakeem the trainer. Y’all are dumb
He's not hating on Hakeem. He's saying that his training isn't worth $50,000. Which I'm starting to realize how many people are casuals and for them they truly need it. For those that actually practice and enhance their games they see 👀 how to study Hakeem. And it's really not that hard.
@@younglove3362na he hating 💯 lol

Already I've seen him do the same things he's been doing the past 5 seasons. Hesitation dribble to a euro step. Got the ball in the post faced up and euro stepped. 😂

Hakeem didn't charge 50k. It's crazy how Gil just made up a random number and everyone ran with it 😂
Gilbert didn’t make this up this is well reported on and documented. Hakeem normally charges players 50k a session to work with him. He’s worked with Dwight, Bron, Giannis, etc. whether or not all of them had to pay that much or not is out of our knowledge. But Gilbert didn’t make up that headline, several articles reported on this.
@patrickmorgan9666 well reported and documented by who? You realize lies and rumors spread even faster, right? You have a link of any of those players you mentioned confirming it?
@@Ben2bwild if Gilbert was lying then the players would have come out to say that Hakeem wasn’t regularly charging them that. Nobody did.
@patrickmorgan9666 but nobody confirmed it either. He said he didn't charge Giannis but did Giannis come out to deny anything? People don't have to respond to everything Gil says.
50k is pennies to nba players🤙🏿
Look at Gil's face when it starts 😂😂
Jokic and embiid are the two best big in the NBA and you know why that is? Their footwork and post moves they are modern day Hakeem, Gilbert
They can also shoot, handle the ball, pass and make free throws better than pretty much every other big.

And it's not this.

Gil will not let this go 😂
Gil is 100% correct. You can't do something a week before the season, (less than 10 hours total), on something you are a novice at. And expect it to be worth it. Especially when they aren't correcting your mistakes. This is sometimes the problem with many great players teaching others. They don't know how to teach because they just expect it to be done the way as easy as they do it 90% of the time and don't correct mistakes when they see it.
Nah Gil initially changed his narrative because at first he said Hakeem’s game can’t translate into today’s game

Gil is just jealous because it’s not him that’s making that money. Stop hating for once. Ask Shaq about Hakeem foot work how he couldn’t guard him. Now you mad because he’s getting that and you not
Gil dnt wanna ask Shaq nothing especially since Shaq was nailing his baby momma 😂

Gil just mad he was never great like Hakeem to be able to charge NBA stars 50K for private lessons . Hater much
No, you just gotta be an idiot to pay 50k for some shit you can learn somewhere else
I see why Gil never really won in the NBA. Must be one of the most hard headed, non evolving players I seen. The more I watch this show the more I see that Gil really ain’t shit lmao
Gilbert Arenas is a professional hater. Kobe is from Arenas’ era, and he worked out with Hakeem Olajuwon, and Kobe said he got better. Arenas thinks because everyone has switched to the 3 point shot game, low post play has no place, even for actual big men that play in the low post.
Hakeem isn’t forcing anyone to pay him. Hakeem has a service and that’s his charge for his service. If you don’t want to pay don’t pay. Gilbert has to be one of the most hard headed people. Someone gets paid what they feel they are worth and what the payer feels they are worth.
I don't think that Gil will ever recover from this L. Whatever reputation or credibility he had, is all gone now.
Lol
I agree with Gil on this watching how someone plays and what they dont have confidence in helps
Joel embid got better from his tapes
S/O to Mccants for showing respect to a legend. Gil acts like he know everything
Get off Hakeems nuts
Can’t teach nothing in a week 😂. Great moves are taught over months and years. Straight finesse from Keem
Edit: Obviously a lot of debate.
