      Unfortunately, it has been a while since i studied this subject. Doing tutorials requires revising all over again, which is something i have no time nor in the mood to do it now.

    the response isn't complete, it lacks a description of the predictable sound, the phonological process and the phonological rule. Please correct me if I am mistaken!

      I used almost the same answers in the exam as the ones provided in this video, and got a good mark.
      Of course, you sometimes could describe something that is just two lines in 10 lines.

    first of all thanks for the video, though i didnt understand the fact that the data has a minimal pair which means that they are in contrastive distribution, but in exercise two u ve said that they in complementary distribution that kinda confused me, correct me if am wrong, thank you

    • @AhmedBouchta
      @AhmedBouchta  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and Welcome. Make sure you understand what minimal pairs mean.
      Well, what confused you i guess is the fact that no sounds are specified to work on in the 1st question, whereas in the 2nd, the question was only about two specific sounds [n] and [ŋ]. Obviously, the examiner's intention was to make sure we understand and are able to do two activities. in question 1, we had to extract any minimal pairs (sounds) that contrast meaning (contrastive distribution), and in the 2nd question, the examiner specified two sounds [n] and [ŋ], so that we do the other activity which is about sounds in complementary distribution.
      Confusion is a normal thing if you are studying this for the first time, and the only way to make things clear is to do more exercises provided that you understood the most basic concepts, and probably watch more videos here on TH-cam, and i suggest at least these two videos:
      th-cam.com/video/wA9--WJSPws/w-d-xo.html
      th-cam.com/video/SAABG01KUu4/w-d-xo.html
