Just started watching your videos, really enjoying them. I ask about a thousand questions while watching. These are also great company for a handicapped person, who can't get out much. I wish I could live like this, for at least part of the year. Thanks for the company. Skeeter is a great little dog.
Great video. The birch trim looks awesome. And of course Skeeter is such a good boy for bringing back the sensor you accused him of burying in the snow. Skeeter has become my favorite TH-camr.😂
Birch look good ,but sorry to say it gets bad in 5-10 years .Birch is good in floors but it is wet inside if you dont take " skin " off .You will find out that later for sure ....Here we use birch in floors ,stairs etc.
The cabin looks great you are a very skillful young man what a lovely place to live you make a nice couple and I love skeeter he's adorable good luck to you both :-) ♡♡
Kyle I was very impressed the way you asked Cierra for her input on how the trim looked. For a young man it says a lot about your upbringing.Your well on your way to a lasting relationship. The Trim is a nice touch keeping the look very rustic.
Bro dont put water on the foam! It goes inside the foam and destroys the isolationpower. Cut that stuf away with a nive and buy winterproof and summerproof silicon in brown that is super elastic...then the foam is protected...the black stuff is fungi. That comes when the wood fiber starts to rotten...Thats way wood must be protected from rain or snow...a trick: When you nail direct by windows open them if you can. That takes the vibrations the hammerpower away from the frame of the glas and through that the glas will not broke. Its and old carpenter trick.
Your additions of the Birch trim make your place look even more adorable & quaint while still maintaining that "Rustic Quality" ... Perfect / Nice Job ! You're both Great Burrito makers (yum) & as my husband says, you can never go wrong w/ Sausage or Bacon ! {cute - silly - but sincere lol} Years ago at our cottage, my husband made me a 'Window Box Planter' underneath the Kitchen window, thought of this when you were putting trim around that window ... did this so when we arrived, some Herbs etc were always there waiting for us : ) (ie) I plant Basil, Garlic Chives, Italian Parsley, and Oregano (I plant these b/c that window gets a little over 1/2 day sun) You both look like you enjoy cooking & good food so just a thought - if not, it's all Good too !! : ) ... As usual, Thanks for sharing your adventures & a Big Hug to Sweet Skeeter (aka) ... The STAR of the Show !!! : )
Hi Kyle & Cierra. I like the rustic look of the birch wrap on the windows. I’ve always loved birch trees. I used to look through their branches at the moon and was amazed to see they have the most beautiful symmetry that you don’t see in the daylight. Sadly, I don’t have any birches at my present home. Your stove looks fabulous too! (Oh shoot...I see guacamole or sliced avocado on your tortillas. I meant to get some avocados at Costco today and forgot.). Cheers!
Nothing but admiration and envy towards you. I wish I had the skills and land to do what you have done. I'll be sad when it gets warmer up there. I love the cold weather and snow cabin videos!
I prefer winter in the woods myself. No bugs and it's really cozy walking into a warm cabin with a woodstove. I am excited to get some projects completed this summer though. Stay tuned!
Hi guys, I really enjoyed this video actually, I wish it was a bit longer. I like the trim and that you put it on in log form, that is thinking outside the box. To keep it looking good put a clear coat sealer on them. Here is another tip, if you are going to nail wood, tap the tip of the nail about 3 times with a hammer and it won't split the wood. I am really liking the videos you two put out. Thanks for sharing
Nice job on cabin Kyle. Had a bit of a laugh when you were cooking sausage, " I don't know what I'm making yet, but it'll have sausage in it!" You're a very lucky and hard working young man. Good luck to you 3, from Australia. Love the vids.
You need to cut away the excess foam and seal it with a silicone sealer and protect it from ultraviolet sun rays. Also, getting it wet destroys it and the .insulative value. That birch window trim does make it pop! Stay safe.
I forgot you just had a tarp for the roof until I saw it blowing in the wind! Crazy the temps you guys are at with a tarp, but it must keep warm enough inside. Nice job on the logs and trim! I like the lighter colour of the trim, it contrasts nicely with the darker logs. Definitely "pops" together!
We have the roof insulated with reflectix "bubble foil" insulation. The tarp is just draped over that to keep the water off. As soon as the snow melts enough that I can drive back in here I'll get the metal put on!
An old enticer sled would be so awesome for you guys! We have two, and we use them to pull logs out/bush wack with them, ours so far have taken a beating and been indestructible! Just a thought for next year maybe, don’t need to spend crazy money or anything and they’re super useful to have.
We are definitely getting a snowmobile for next year haha. We want to get something like that. Nothing fancy just something to get us in and out and pull some loads and logs. Might even get two of them. Thanks for watching!
Really enjoy your videos, as well as other cabin/bush crafting channels, but it always amuses me how often power tools and batteries come into play, and the attempt to convert wilderness living into having all the comforts of home or apartment in the city. I think it's just a natural instinct, and has arrived man/woman at where they are today. But, enjoy your journey. You're doing good.
My weather station remote I have hidden outside where I can get to it to change the battery easily. Yours could be tucked away around the back up under the roof in the shade and out of Sketters grasp.
There is one thing I would have a problem with, that is walking that far to get to the cabin! But then, I am 70 yrs old and not in good health. Other wise love, love, love your cabin!!!
To be honest when you started trimming the door, I thought this is stupid it looks really dicky. Then when you finished and panned back and got it in perspective with the window, man it looks real good.
I like the birch around the door and windows! Very cool. Wow, those logs sure cleaned up. Is it too costly to rent a bulldozer and make a road to the cabin? I can't wait to see more work in the coming months.
At this point it's too costly. I have thought about renting a skid steer for a day or two in the future. That would get some work done. But we will see!
One of the nicest things hubby ever did for me and my dogs was to bulldoze a walking trail around the farm. Did it on a winter day several year ago, and the part through the woods/along the creek is about a mile. I know your distance there is longer, but just sayin'...somebody that knows what they're doing could fix you up right quick. Especially if you were to flag ahead of time where you'd like the trail to go. Of course, that would make it easier for unwanted visitors to come. Need to weigh that out, I guess.
@@KYLESCABIN when i started on my cabin i had a smaill trail so as i started building more i needed more lumber so i rented a skidsteer to widen our soon to be driveway my cabin sits pretty far back on my 7 acres here in michigan my property has been in the family all my life my late parents bought the land when i was a kid its been a dream to finally build something its a great feeling
Great video! What was the generator for, a pressure washer? Looks good. Very attractive trim. My only concern would be I would have strongly considered stout shutters to keep wild animals out while you are gone. Cool seeing Skeeter sniffing the air like that. Dogs have such fantastically sensitive olfactory systems compared to us. Some say that the wild wolf-dog, perhaps thirty thousand years ago or more, domesticated us humans! Come springtime you could easily attach some 1/4in hardware cloth around the bottom edge of your cabin to keep mice and gnawing critters out. Some people attach a layer of it underneath the cabin to prevent that. That synthetic chinking you have planned will make for quite an interesting video(s).
I'm amazed at my dogs sense of smell, it's crazy how far away they can sense other animals! My one dog sniffed in the air and I realized there was a porcupine far enough away I could barely see it. We skedaddled out of there!
I know. I really want to make longer videos but they take so long to upload out here. This summer I'll be in town a lot for work so I'll be able to make longer ones and upload them from town! I'm glad you enjoy the videos
Yes and it will be. I have a wire brush attachment for my drill that will clean it up and get rid of the bubbly look. Then I will drive nails about 1/2 inch apart and mortar over the foam for a more permanent and cleaner looking chinking. I will have a video of that this spring along with videos of the many other projects we want to accomplish this spring/summer.
Hey bud, quick couples questions, when you say you scrubbed the logs to take the mold off. What did you use, a wire brush? How much water did it require? And finally, did you rinse the bleach solution off when finished? Really appreciate. I must do same thing.
I used a dish scrubber that had bristles on it. I got it from wal mart. I tried using just a sponge but it wasn't quite strong enough. The solution I used was 4 parts water and about half a cup of bleach mixed in. I scrubbed them with that, then wiped it dry right away, then sprayed just water on quick and then wiped it dry again. I have some friends in Alaska that have built a couple of log cabins and they say that's the best way to do it. Their cabins have held up well so I went with their method.
KYLES CABIN & WILDERNESS ADVENTURES - we had trouble with the south side of our log home and have scrubbed it with log/mold cleaner a few times. It works ok, but I think the bleach would have done just as well. We restained and sealed logs this past summer.

Keep up the great videos, we really need them in these times of Covid.
We can live through your adventures, big or small to help us cope.
Thank you.
Birch trim is great looking, very Adirondaks. Good ol’ Skeeter. Not a Springer Spaniel anymore. Now a rare breed, a Sensor Retreiver!🤣
The birch on the window looks GREAT!
Hello , la vida es a veces rutina , pero , cuando uno está feliz y su familia también , la rutina es una bendición de Dios .

Another great vid Kyle. Lovely.
The window trim looks good, very nice place 👍👍👍
Living vicariously through this channel. Ive been dreaming about this for over a decade now, still havent pulled the trigger
I want to build a log cabin when I’m in my 20s

Cindy Glass I love having fresh herbs available. Good idea to have a window box planter at the cabin. (Add some kind of automated watering).
Kyle surely eats really good. Interesting to watch him and Ms preparing their meals.
I like the trim looks real nice take care you two

I had a good laugh when your dog brought back your digital thermomiter. You were talking about it being missing do to Doggy actions not long ago..
The framework looks awesome! 😊👍
Trim looks cool.
beautiful windows! That is so funny Skeeter decided to give you the sensor back 😂😂😂
Really like the birch trim.
That cleaning mixture really made those logs look great. It's gonna be real purty when you get R all done. 👍
I like the Birch around the windows thats cute looking
Great video and love the birch trim cabin is coming along nicely, give Skeeter a pat on the head for me he's so cool 😊❤
Nice trim!
Cabin looking good with the trim. I know you will be glad when the snow melts. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Looks very relaxing 👌

I agree! Very nice and love the trim around the windows..
Good Work on the trim....
That wood stove your grandpa made is pretty freaking sweet! Nice job on trimming out the windows also. And that dinner has my mouth watering for real!
A good simplistic adventure

I love the white accents!!! Now I want breakfast fajitas thanks a lot lol!!! Seriously they looked good though
Go for it!
The cabin is coming along good. Now you can name it and put the name over the door a Sierra can make some curtains for the inside😍
Birch trim is very north-woodsy indeed.
My weather station remote I have hidden outside where I can get to it to change the battery easily. Yours could be tucked away around the back up under the roof in the shade and out of Sketters grasp.
didnt read comments just posting ...love the videos ....just me i would do some kind of flashing and sealant to drain water from window and door tops
Great way to live.
Leave it to Skeeter! 😂☮️
P Streech ... yes, exactly, it's NOT the ... "Leave it to Beaver Show" --- it's the "Leave it to Skeeter Show" !! : )
Hey bro, always debark your logs, the logs will rot with the bark left on, other than that great job
I like it!
Picked up the controller because he
Love's you guys ❤️ Darn stinker✌️
I didn't think I would find that until spring!
Kyle, very nice 👍. Have you considered growing your own food?

Looks awesome love birch trees. How often do you leave the cabin to shop or how often
During the winter about once, maybe twice a month.
That birch trim makes the cabin pop love it, wish I had a place like that, want to sell it??? Lol take care
Do you get many bears there on your block? What a great lifestyle you guys have !
Awesome, dood.....
