Does anyone else here think that Sierra could easily play Giselle if they decided to make Enchanted a broadway thing? She has the mannerisms down to a T.
Ariel's transformation gives me goosebumps every time I watch this. The mechanics that go into this scene alone is just amazing. For those of you who were wondering how they do this scene (with regards to Ariel's Transformation from a Mermaid to a Human), they are using the same rigging as when Prince Eric was drowning earlier in the show. They are using a Raynok Motion Control System with a control system manufactured by Niscon. There are two stunt double used during this. (I personally do not know when they come on since I was backstage during this part, so that is to be determined). As Ariel is singing, she enters the pod that housed Ursula (9:04) and begins to take off her mermaid tail once the scrim has gone down and light turns off of the pod. Once the music picks up and Ursula screams for her to swim to the surface, the first stunt double dressed as Ariel is lifted from behind Ursula's pod (9:20) and is spinning. [This is my favorite part]. The stunt double is wearing a very light fabric in the shape of a mermaid tail and starts kicking as if she still had a tail all while she is being lifted towards the top of the stage. [How this is done is genius] During certain parts of the music interlude, the stunt double reacts to the music. Like I said before, she has a tail when she is first lifted up, then at 9:31, the music changes which is when she starts developing legs, then at 9:39, the music picks up again and the tail is ripped off from below using clear string and she starts swimming to the surface as she is being raised towards the top of the stage. How the scene changes is just amazing. Again, it is as if the view was panning up towards the ocean surface. The scenery is lowered and the second stunt double appears facing away from the audience. (9:57). Hope this helped.
Thanks for sharing but I noticed something differently in the complete Broadway shows. When Ariel (1st stunt double) is still lifted at 9:31, the music changes; but it does not show Ariel developing legs yet, instead it shows her kicking as hard as she can to push the tail. In one of the videos I saw her kicking the tail and she was thrashing on the wire so hard I thought the wire was going to break! Then at 9:37, the tail starts getting loose and big before the music gets louder; and at 9:39 she lets go of the tail and receives her legs. Everything else after the legs are the same sequence that you informed us!
An unexpected song, but it's nice that they expanded Flotsam and Jetsam's roles a bit for the show. Because of being charm-struck by "Sweet Child", I was able to resist the lure of a song like it roughly six years later, "Trust Me" from The Devil's Carnival.
AnaxErik4ever I played the role of Jetsam recently in a local amateur production of this show and the eels got nothing but praise for being creepy haha. We used UV makeup and elements on our costumes which glowed under a black light we used during the Eel/Ursula scenes
Ethan Detering Even back when I was 14, I thought they were eerily smexy. Hard to believe it's been nearly 10 years since that musical first hit the stage. I saw it for my sister's 14th birthday in 2008; it remains one of our favorite Broadway memories.
I'm addicted to "Sweet Child".......I just like the song too much for some reason. Whoever begins the song has the most amazingly strange and beautiful high voice that I have ever heard for a guy. Who IS that? I need to know!
Saw TLM on Broadway twice, once as my 11th birthday present and the year after as a field trip for orchestra students. It was mesmerising, I bought the CD and to this day (almost 10 years later) Poor unfortunate souls and 'I want the good times back' are my go-to songs to sing in the shower. Had such a crush on one of the eels when I first saw this lol. Sherie Rene Scott is a broadway goddess.
I will always love watching all of the videos of The Little Mermaid on Broadway because it's my most favorite Disney Princess! Thank you for keeping these video's up on you tube for a lot of years! 😊❤❤❤🧜♀From, Amy
My school was chosen last year to be the first school by disney to do The Little Mermaid JR. and I was Ursula!!!!! I took so much inspiration from her! It was so much fun! (though the hair+makeup took like 3 hours cause i didnt get a wig..... hahaha!)
Just be thankful you got something to watch for free rather than paying the amount of a Broadway ticket to watch it. enjoy the show, simple :D but then again if I got a dollar for every pixel in this video....well....i'll still have a dollar lols. thank you to the uploader for this video.
does anyone else see the resemblance with Phantom? Both shows drive on her voice.. and it just so happens that in both musicals someone keeps yelling "SIIIING!" to her. Just saying. am totally loving this show, though. and Sierra is perfection, as always
well technically in the movie she is a squid. if you watch the special features on the dvd the animators talk about how it was too messy to animate 8 tentacles for ursula so in the movie she only has six making her a squid and not an octopus.
The thing with her eyes being closed is a good point though, in most of the productions im in the makeup artists put absolutely no makeup on your bottom lids to avoid that. It works pretty well.
Is it just me or does it look like Ursula has her eyes closed the whole time? I can't figure out if it's supposed to be like that or just the way the video was tapped. Loved the play tho. I miss the video from my childhood. Turn 19 yesterday. I feel old. Wish I was little again.
It's the video quality, lighting, and the fake eyelashes under her lashline to make her eyes seem bigger. Her skin in this video is much lighter than in other ones, meaning it's being washed out by the video saturation (or something to that effect), so her eye shadow is also blending in with her face makeup and reducing how dark her lashes are so the thicker, lower fake set are the ones that are more pronounced.
@@caton_andrew Or maybe I posted that comment when I was a fifteen year old excited about finally playing a major role for the first time? Don't be rude.
@Sophiee2514 I agree with you - Eric falls in love with Ariel's voice before her and the Phantom falls in love with Christine's voice before her? And yep, Ariel is ordered to sing by Ursula and Christine is ordered to sing by the Phantom!!!
I love it! Erik, Ursula--but what I've always wondered what would happen if the two met. What if Erik took Ursula down to his lair and took Ariel's voice from her ? He'd be so confused with the Christine sounding voice. Haha.
Nope. They're music terms. Vibrato is when give your voice kind of a shaky feel on purpose. you usually hear that at the end of songs, when someone is holding out the same note, but it sounds like it's "vibrating". Legato is when you sing a string of notes very smoothly, not enunciating each change. A belt is kind of like a singing shout, but it sounds pretty. A good example is Ariel's line "Love to explore that shore up above!"
I'm guessing she was either lowered back down or the flying Ariel was someone else & she went through a trap door then reappeared or the flying Ariel was Sierra & the one on the stage was someone else........
@yuufuo Maybe they went by mythology, likely Greek if they mentioned Poseidon as Triton's (and therefore Ursula's) father. Poseidon created a lot of different sea creatures, making them his "children." I dunno. That's what I've thought for a while now.
@CraftyWizard23 that is a strong possibility because (even though its disney so prob not) in Greek Mythology Triton'd dad Posideon was well alot like his brother Zeus having alot of affairs
I love the woman that's playing Ursula, she's freash and funny. But I don't like the way they've changed Disney's version of 'Poor Unfortunate Souls". Still very well done :)
Sure, I understand the phrase, 'people are entitled to their own opinion' so, how can one have a validated opinion when it is clearly uneducated by using constant nonsensical hate? Therefore, it wouldn't be valid or even heard in the professional world. There is a difference between hate and having a respected opinion. So understand that freedom of speech doesn't mean to be an insensitive, disrespectful prick. I dare you say that to the professionals faces. You people have the nerve to ridicule the highest standard of entertainment, chosen only by the top professions of the industry. By saying you 'hate' the Ursula performer because she "isn't fat enough" or some pathetic excuse of an 'opinion' isn't valid. It never will be, and quite frankly you look like a full blown fool. The Ursula chosen to play this part is the best of the best, and she deserves every single cent she earns for all the sweat and tears of effort put into performing for our entertainment. I applaud them all.
She is amazing actress. Loved her in Dirty Rotten scoundrels. I not a fan of her as Ursula. Her voice just doesn't seem to fit Ursula. That an educated opinion people. People dislike her because she's not a fat?

Nathan Masterson I
so much good in this show but doesn't travel well through what makes a great Musical
STUNT DOUBLES??? I WAS WONDERING HOW ERIC GOT TO THE GROUND SO QUICK IN THE STORM SCENE
"Ooh, look! Small print!"
+Josie Alyvia I think she was saying what would happen to Ariel XD
Sweet child (as well as the reprise) is my favourite song(s) from the musical. I just love it

Ethan Detering aye i played jetsam too
This is not Pat Carroll and Jodi Benson, it's Sherie Rene Scott and Sierra Boggess.
Pat Caroll and Jodi Benson are in the movie.
Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy Are In the Live Action Movie!
I'm addicted to "Sweet Child".......I just like the song too much for some reason. Whoever begins the song has the most amazingly strange and beautiful high voice that I have ever heard for a guy. Who IS that? I need to know!
Ursula rocked the song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
flotsam’s vocal flare on “no one will CARE” * *chef’s kiss* *

Poor Unfortunate Souls is one of my favourite songs!! :D
i love "sweet child" and "poor unfortunate souls" it sucks that this isnt on broadway anymore
It still is, it's just not on demand like Phantom of the Opera or Beauty and the Beast and Mamma Mia. But it still is on broadway.
uh, no its not. it closed on August 30th, 2009.
“Gals with ambition” good quote
Sweet Child is one of my favorites! I love the harmonies... :D

i loved the "shake off the tail" concept.. looked really good! =]
Every time I hear Sherie sing I get goosebumps! Same with Sierra!
Great voice!
Poor unfortunate soul might be my favorite number so far!
Ursula is absolutely amazing! The actress show me a bad person, but so fun! I love her!
the eels are AMAZING!!

Your Vibrato, Your Legato, even your Belt! ....I love music humor ;)
Flotsam and Jetsam's voices are so memorizing~
this july i'm playing ursula and sherie rene scott is such a queen oh my golly
Isn't she amazing? I've idolized her since the musical came out in 2007. That's nearly 10 years ago.
theatresara who is gonna be ariel?
does anyone else see the resemblance with Phantom? Both shows drive on her voice.. and it just so happens that in both musicals someone keeps yelling "SIIIING!" to her. Just saying. am totally loving this show, though. and Sierra is perfection, as always
My fave part he was clapping during. It was the oh no part
when she sings into the shell it reminds me of the end of the song phantom of the opera
that Ursula girl is such a good singer!
well technically in the movie she is a squid. if you watch the special features on the dvd the animators talk about how it was too messy to animate 8 tentacles for ursula so in the movie she only has six making her a squid and not an octopus.
I love the "Sweet Child" song
oh my gosh ursela is amazing and that transformation if stunning
"Your vibrato, legato, and even your belt!" x))
My school is putting together a version of this musical and I got the part of Ursula! I'm so excited! :D
Tyler Maynard. He was also in the show "The Altar Boyz" it's hilarious and definitely worth checking out.
Ursula is so funny! She cracked me up so bad! XD
Gosh, this makes me all nostalgic! I cried when she gained legs!
The thing with her eyes being closed is a good point though, in most of the productions im in the makeup artists put absolutely no makeup on your bottom lids to avoid that. It works pretty well.
Flotsam+Jetsam=WIN.
They deserve their own show! lol
Her transformation at 9:25-9:35 is like me trying to get myself out of bed each morning.
I like that Ursula and Titon are related, it gives the story a new twist - well kinda :3
Is it just me or does it look like Ursula has her eyes closed the whole time? I can't figure out if it's supposed to be like that or just the way the video was tapped. Loved the play tho. I miss the video from my childhood. Turn 19 yesterday. I feel old. Wish I was little again.

@@shinobusora I was bouta comment the same thing
Wow~!!!!Good! the transformation is the best I had ever seen!
God, I wish I could sing as high as Jetsam and Flotsam. Maybe I'm playing Ursula directly because of that?
i love how you tried to subtly brag that you were playing Ursula lol. it was really obvious 😂
@@caton_andrew Or maybe I posted that comment when I was a fifteen year old excited about finally playing a major role for the first time? Don't be rude.
Flotsam and Jetsam really gave me the creeps in this version.
@Sophiee2514 I didn't know the Phantom's name was Erik!! Call myself a Phantom fan? lol
Nope, they are both guys through the entire play. They just happen to have very high voices.
Im ursula in my play:) i wish we did all of the songs!
Which songs did Ursula have to sing
They're talking about Trident's and Ursula's mom and her name was never given.
if you look on wikipedia's page of this musical, go on differences between musical and film, it says that ursula is triton's sister :)
lol at her suitcase XD
It's beautiful
Now how do they do that transformation?😍😍😍😍😍😍the secrets behind musicals
@brokenpromises63, ariel's mother is named athena, triton's and Ursula's mom is Amphitrite
@Sophiee2514 I agree with you - Eric falls in love with Ariel's voice before her and the Phantom falls in love with Christine's voice before her? And yep, Ariel is ordered to sing by Ursula and Christine is ordered to sing by the Phantom!!!

the one who floats to the top. i'm pretty sure they switched her when she goes into that big bubble thingy.
Ursula is just hysterical here, less evil xD More like Morgana in little mermaid II
I love her suit case! xD
Me too !

Why are Flotsam & Jetsom's voices so high???
Almost no one in our audiences got that joke...and it was my favorite line!!! It was sad...

I still cant believe their on heelys
sherie rene scott did good i just didn't like how slowed the song down it just didn't sound the same but other than that she did really good
In the original concept for the film she was also his sister.
bahaha, ursula is hilarious :D
Thank you. I take pride in that.
@yuufuo Here she is only part octopus, only her lower part... just as his lower part is flipper :)
@Elphieinthemaking exaactly!! haha, fantastic! and, now i think about it ; the Phantom's name is actually Erik!
@yuufuo Ariels grandparents must be some VERY interesting sea creatures :D
i think ursula was born as a mermaid and then she turned into a octopus woman for punishment
Love " The little Mermaid. "
@CraftyWizard23 that is a strong possibility because (even though its disney so prob not) in Greek Mythology Triton'd dad Posideon was well alot like his brother Zeus having alot of affairs
I like comedic Ursula :)
its the make up. look up this video
"behind the scenes:Ursula's lair at the little mermaid"
it shows the make up process for the musical
Ursula looks like my evil math teacher Dr. Berrett
Our school is doing this musical and I'm flotsom
@PercFreak92 Actually, her name was Athena
ok but, the shell bag
the makeup mixed with the camera quality makes it like here eyes are always closed.
I love the woman that's playing Ursula, she's freash and funny. But I don't like the way they've changed Disney's version of 'Poor Unfortunate Souls". Still very well done :)
@yuufuo
She may be a different kind of mermaid, its either that or the shell made her that way.
How did they use ariel shadow for transformation?😮😅
I keep thinking she says, "They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a bitch." haha
Witch!
@LiliumJewel Either way, she lived in Atlantica before.
@bakaonigirii
She says " Its me your auntie Ursula". And then they do talk about being family and so on.
Why are all my favorite parts villain parts?! >:)
Ursula's costume oh my gosh ahegablegrhjs
@yuufuo She is only part octopus, only her lower part... just as his lower part is flipper :) I guess it's sort of a birth-defect
how does that part happen toward the end I believe one of the female ensemble dressed as Ariel for that part I love it tho
The guy who has the blond hair reminds me of Martin Short XD (idk if he is Flozem or if he is Jetzem)
Flotsam and jetsam
