Thanks again for a great video Iain am looking at getting a new board so found it very helpful. Am really enjoying your videos keeps me stoked when their are no waves.
Personally I would go with the NRG cores unless you're on a budget. The longevity you get from the PP is that much better! Keeps its core so much more and the foam has better memory...
I want to shape a 54 " fiberglass board with a rubber inlay on top and g-10 fins on the bottom. Almost a hybrid that i can stand up on. Does this sound crazy?
I wonder if the ISS system will ever evolve to being used in DK specific boards? Might be cool to try out different flex combos on the front/back foot sides. Probably pretty expensive though. Hey Iain, Just curious, how do you feel about slick creases? And what's your opinion on them affecting or not affecting a boards performance in this modern day with different materials to aid in durability, like the Infinity system, mesh, skintec, tension tech etc?
Hey Iain, how much rigidity does the Infinity Flex System add to the board versus without? Interested in purchasing an NRG model with the Infinity Flex and was curious how much stiffer the board would be compared to the NRG core and stringer alone?
It definitely gives it a little more rigidity but it is more for helping the board to recoil back to it’s original place. I like it because it gives the board good pop and allows for some pretty big moves.
I ride found bodyboards but my last one snapped at a reef in bantry bay called sewers, what other board would you recommend or should i stick with found?
Hi Emma. I would say anything above 18 Celsius is considered pretty warm. That’s how I feel, might be a bit different for some but that makes sense to me.
Hi Ian, could you share some advice on core variations like Quad Core, PSF3 etc? I'm considering an NRG core board with PSF3 but I'm not sure how much it will affect flex
NRG is a pretty good core for cold water. I don’t find it to have the same issues properties as the PP in its recoil and pop but still acts good in colder water.
Yes it has both. The infinity flex ♾ doesn’t have enough of a rigidity to hold the flex of the board completely. So all those boards come with a stronger.
@@iaincampbell_ I have a VS Dave Winchester Quad PP, very fast down the line and great amount of lift.. gets abit sticky doing spins but the quads give a really good feeling! Hey do Sniper sell boards in Australia bro?
This is some seriously solid info bru! 👌 It's been a decade since I've splashed but I'm hell bent on getting back into the water! Still got my old "Reopiper" soft top (that thing is probably still water logged) 😅 But ja, the IBC hosted event and recent Walkerbay PRO at Onrus beach have gotten me beyond psyched!! Any idea where I can find myself some cores here in SA? Super keen on just building my own!! Just can't afford the kit right now hey, fins alone are going to be a mission but I'm sure someone has a spare pair, need to speak to the lads! I can't find much on high density expanded PE suppliers, all just soft foam nonsense for padding, or maybe I'm not looking hard enough? Either way your input would be highly appreciated 🙏✌️
Okaaay, finally found some manufacturers / suppliers! Namely Surfblanks, iFoam, Vitatex, Foamsolutions and Sondor but none of them apart from Foamsolutions are providing any prices and I don't think even their hardest foam is stiff enough. Figured FINE, DIY harder! What about foam in a can!? Found some on special, R100 for 750ml which should produce 40L odd of PU "waterproof" foam, 2 of those dumped into a rectangular mold big enough for a 42" board should do the trick!! Question is, how stiff is this stuff and how "waterproof" is it really... But if this works, I'm onto something ekse! 😁
I’ve got no idea at all… didn’t know there were so many. This is all the information I can find on the type: Surlyn™ slick exhibits rubber-like properties and superior projection. It is designed so as that it has minimal impact on the flex properties of the core.
HDPE is on the PE core. Often a lot softer and allows the board to be more flexible. The Surlyn slick is a lot harder on the NRG and PP core which holds rigidity and makes them stiffer all round.
I use the entire range of stringers in my board depending on the age and flex my board is. I have been using the stuff stringer in Portugal in my old board but will vary between soft and mid in a new board. All depending.
I'm from Oregon and I want to know if I were to ride the cold waves in the Oregon coast and in the warm waters in Southern California and Hawaii, Should I use the Polypropylene bodyboards for the three places? What do you recommend?
Maybe look at getting a PP ISS board. You will maybe have to purchase another stringer or 2 but it will be cheaper than 2 boards. There are a few options on that market. That way you can use a stiffer stringer for the warmer places and a flexible stringer for the other places.

Thanks bru. Will do.
Hello, From the US! Thank you for you detailed information! This helped so much !!
Glad to hear it Joseph! Enjoy the ocean and keep bodyboarding.

Thanks so much again Nigel... always appreciate it.
Thanks for the sick vid bru. Would you recommend the NRG cores or PE cores for cold waters like Ireland?
Personally I would go with the NRG cores unless you're on a budget. The longevity you get from the PP is that much better! Keeps its core so much more and the foam has better memory...

Hmmm. Don’t know man. These things are ever evolving. Could be getting better and better for bodyboarding.
Great video, it had lots of good info for beginners like me.

Hi Iain, at what temperature would you say cold water turns to warm? Pretty sure I should just stick to Pp being on aus east coast?
I have never used any of those cores so your guess is as good as mine on that topic. Unfortunately I can only comment on the Sniper range...
Hey iain, what do you think is the best core for cold US east coast waters. I currently use a PP core and I’m thinking of getting a new board.
NRG is a pretty good core for cold water. I don’t find it to have the same issues properties as the PP in its recoil and pop but still acts good in colder water.
Hi Iain, does the infinity Flex system still have the infinity Flex system aswell as a normal straight stringer ??
Yes it has both. The infinity flex ♾ doesn’t have enough of a rigidity to hold the flex of the board completely. So all those boards come with a stronger.
does it matter if a board has 1 or 2 stringers? like whats the differance and whats the best option?
All down to personal preference but I would say single for colder water and double for warmer.
@ thank you! Helps a lot 🤙
@@iaincampbell_ id also like to say thanks for answering my questions! I have a lot of them 😅 but you still find time to answer them!

shame they're all plastic foam based are there any 'greener' options apart from the cork alternative ?
Pride and HB bodyboards both make a cork board that is meant to be more sustainable for the environment
If there was another way we would be using it but unfortunately there isn’t that we have found...
Iain do you ever use a PE/NRG core in cold water ? Or PP year round?
No I don’t. I really don’t like how the NRG reacts. So I just stay on PP boards.

No idea on cores in SA. I know they were hard to find and I don’t think it’s made in SA anymore.
What type of surlyn is used? (there are like 1000 versions of surlyn from dupont)

I prefer the Pp but the NRG cores are still very good. Just depends on your preference but I just think the PP is a bit stronger.

Hi 👋🏼
@@iaincampbell_ alo is it a good board Atunas body board ?
gd one !
have you heard of EPP foam extruded polypropelene? scott burke bodyboard from costco is made from it.
All boards that are PP are made from extruded polypropylene…
Why aren’t body boards made from fibreglass like surf boards?
Would be a bit too hard landing on your stomach…
NRG= not really good. Cool vid!
Are you sponsored just curious?
Yes I am...
Polypro isnt waterproof. Maybe beaded poly pro is
The ones that are in my board are 100% waterproof.
Which is better for Hawaii? Polypro or polyethylene?
Polypro as the water is very warm.
Iain Campbell will a polyethylene and a single stringer combo work too for Hawaiian waters?
