INSECURITY - WHY I CAN'T RUN IN SKETCHERS

  • Today, after my morning run, I elaborate on a frequent response I give to comments asking me to review Sketchers or Under Armour. I will usually say that I just can't run in those and it's not their fault. It's mine.
    I'm insecure.
    I'm worried about looking foolish. I'm worried about liking and recommending a shoe for long distance runs that is in actuality a lifestyle shoe. I'm insecure that my perspective isn't keen. I'm insecure that I don't know what I'm talking about.
    With lifestyle shoes looking more like running shoes and running shoes looking more like lifestyle shoes, my idiosyncratic concern is amplified, especially when I see lifestyle sneaker wearers opting for running shoes and runners opting for lifestyle sneakers. It's easy to get confused when the lines are blurred.
    And like other areas of my life where I know I'm weak or am worried that I'm weak, I avoid it. So no Sketchers for me. For now.
    Thanks for watching. Leave a comment to let me know you stopped by!

    keep in mind that Nike dropped Meb Keflezighi, an Olympic silver medalist; he then signed with Skechers, and went on to win the New York city marathon, and win Boston in a PR (2:08:37). So, I think Skechers deserves a purchase just to say thanks for endorsing an athlete who has represented the sport so well

    I know this video is old, but I hear where you’re coming from. If you go onto specific brand websites like Nike, and you click on the running subsection for shoes, more than half of the shoes in that section aren’t actually running shoes. This can be really misleading to new runners. I was really happy to see you branch out this winter and try an under armor shoe. In regards to Sketchers; Sketchers and Sketchers Performance are two completely different groups within the within the company. They did this because they wanted to legitimately pursue performance shoes designed for running, even bringing on Meb Keflezighi, and Edward Cheserek to really aid in the design and testing of the shoes. It sounds crazy, I’m a college athlete at a D2 school that is going D1 next year, and I do all my speed and tempos in the GoRun Ride 7. Idk if you’ll see this, but if you do, thank you for content, honesty and reading this!

    I was just thinking about this topic. Today I walked into a what to me seemed to be a running store and asked the staff if they had the new Zoom Fly 3 in stock or if they would get them eventually. He answered "I`m sorry but we dont get THAT KIND of shoes." (wearing his RUNNERS POINT staff sweater)

    I'm late to the party on this upload, but I definitely hear what your sayin. The running shoe "look" has definitely kinda taken the place of basketball shoes as just casual wear. I do think it's funny to see reviews of very technical running shoes like the Vapor Fly 4%, by sneaker heads or people who will never actually run in 'em.

    It's interesting to see how you've evolved in trying and enjoying other shoes. In fact, I was skeptical about Under Armour shoes too, but tried the Hovr Sonics and loved 'em after watching your review of the Hovr CGR Mid. After a week running in the Hovr Sonics I like them a bit better than the Solar Boost and Adizero Prime.
    And I know that confusion over trying to discern running from lifestyle shoes. I'm constantly Googling reviews and specs while in the stores. Most Skechers and Reeboks I see locally are lifestyle shoes; as are about half the adidas shoes I've tried.
    I've found a few adidas shoes that look great but noticed all the positive reviews don't feature any running or even walking - it's all about the cosmetics. And some just felt weird right away due to unnecessary doodads intended to make the shoes look cool but serve no function.
    Yours are among the very few reviews that emphasize running, not just fashion. Thanks.

    I love the honesty....I completely understand, but I took the leap last month. I just bought a pair of the GoRun Ride 7s and surprisingly moved them to my daily "garbage miles" shoe. The are more comfortable and ride smoother than my pegasus 35s, which are my normal "go to". I found a pair of GRR7 for $55 and figured at that price they were worth trying. I saw a elite runner using the sketchers razor 3s in my last race. I am thinking about buying them next, because I need a new race day and speed work shoes soon. Anyway we had different opinions on what running shoes is best, I tried GoRun600, its a good shoes for daily running but not very good for long runs (half-marathons,marathon,etc.). I think because of the thickness of the outsole and the weight. My first running shoes was Under Armour Bandit 3, it was an ok shoes but I have difficulty in its cushion/support. Right now, I am using Saucony Kinvara 9 which gives me more comfortability and stability (which I think I saw in one of your review about Kinvara 9 is not good, :D). I think the improtant here is if the shoes will suit you or not. :D Happy Running Kofuzi and Happy New Year!

    I know what you mean, kind of. For me, sketchers first hit the scene as an affordable, high quality, long lasting product, that would compete with all of the "big boys" for a fraction of the price. They are no longer this business model. We even have a sketchers outlet store in my area and the shoes are maybe a dollar or two reduced from the original MSRP. I'm not saying that I would never try a sketchers as a running shoe, but now that they are priced the same as other brands, it would have to be one hell of a user experience to replace the hoka's I've been running in lately.

    Haha, that's why we really should take time to research and test shoes. There are running shoes that are specifically designed for running. There are also "runner" shoes, which have the style of a running shoe but are for lifestyle.
    There are great Sketchers shoes for running such as Gorun and gomeb series. Just look past on the brand and focus on performance. We are normal people who loves to run, we're not Kanye West.
    If you want an adidas go for the adizero lines. They're seriously good running shoes.
    I think the solution for your problem is reading and watching reviews of shoes. Go for solereview, roadtrailrun, & runningshoesguru for websites. If you want TH-cam videos you have the Ginger runner, believe in run, jamison reviews. Those guys have honest and informative review.

    I totally agree with you regarding Skechers. Mostly because I still think they don't have consistent quality and sizing. I know you have run in and reviewed the new Adidas ultraboost, and those are the atleisure shoe gateway to legit running. Back to Skechers, they are one of those annoying shoe companies that consistently doesn't sell 1/2 sizes above size 12. Also, you search their performance website, and most of the shoes listed are hot garbage fake running shoes. They just sprinkle in an occasional hyper burst carbon plated real shoe with inconsistent sizing, and expect to be taken seriously.

    I can't run in Under Armour either. Their shoes are too stiff and don't have that slight bounce you find in Asics or Brooks.

    • @theparalexview785
      @theparalexview785 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried the UA Hovr Sonics? I wasn't expecting much but immediately liked them a bit better than my adidas Solar Boost. It's hard to describe, but the Hovr Sonics feel more responsive without feeling harsh or stiff. The upper is comparable to adidas Primeknit. It's a shoe that makes me want to run as soon as I put them on.
      Boost feels a bit more cushy but less precise and responsive to changing direction, kinda squishy. I like both but if I had to choose one I'd go for the UA Hovr Sonics.

    Almost every shoe brand has actual running shoes. It's just availability. For example, with Nike, it's a lot easier to find actual running shoes. With sketchers, they have running shoes, they are just really rare. The best thing you can do is go to a professional running store or website.

    Skechers GoRun Ride, Great Trainer, GoRun Razor3 -great racer and high speed shoelike Nike Vaporfly. Ever heard of Meb? He wore Skechers and won! Not a passing thing.
    There are MORE Shoe companies on the horizon that do a really good job. Insecurity means you're more likely to try what you know. Nike didn't take off until somebody took a chance to put Steve Prefontaine in a pair. Take a chance, or not. You're still a Runner- Go long!

    So this begs the question: what makes a running shoe? Is it all under the hood so to speak ?

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, one can run in whatever they choose. And what was considered a running shoe ten or twenty years ago wouldn't pass muster today.
      But I think you're looking for materials and build quality that can meet your needs. What feels good for walking around might not feel so great after a couple miles.

    • @demiansims728
      @demiansims728 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. So while it's good advice to run in whatever is comfortable, you really have to pound the pavement to get the true essence of the running shoe. The Nike Free RN's are ridiculously comfortable but I can't really run in them. Or at least it's not good for my build. .

    I agree and disagree :) I agree recently a lot of running shoes across the boundary of pure running shoes and lifestyle runner. I also agree with your comments about
    Sketchers brand
    but just be fair for Gorun Ride 7, I tried it before, it doesn't work for me but I'll say it's a good lightweight neutral daily trainer for ppl who prefer low drop running shoe
    I'm a midfoot striker so any model whose heel-to-toe drop is lower than 8mm making my calves tight.
    The thing I disagree most here is about ultra boost :D. It IS a running shoe. It built for running. It falls in the same category as Nike Epic React. They are both aim to handle long mileage
    Kanye West wearing it doesn't mean it's a lifestyle shoe lol lol
    . But at the same time, I'm so disappointed with the 2018 and 2019 Adidas running shoes line. There is no need to use boost for all the models. There is no variety :) And, boost sole released in 2013, it needs some innovation. Now the only 2 Adidas models are still nice for me are Boston 8 and Adizero adios
    Btw I just start following your channel. it is amazing and I enjoy it a lot!!! Good job!! I love trying different running shoes/gear as well and I'm also running with Nike shoes lol

    Meb, Ed Chesarek, and Kara Goucher wanna have a word with you ;-) You think they got "tricked" into running at an elite level by wearing lifestyle shoes? Seriously, I think being from Europe helps a lot in that regard. I've only known Skechers by their GOmeb, and GOrun line (I'm 40 years, so I am around long enough, and never saw anyone wearing Skechers in their daily lives) for the last 4-5 years or so. Also, it's only been a year or two now that people are actually wearing Skechers' other lines as lifestyle shoes here (and it's mostly the elderly who I guess got them recommend by their PTs). I owned GOrun 4, Razor 2, and now the Ride 7, all of which are amazing running shoes. Do they look as fly as a pair of Nike? Definitely not, but to be frank, Saucony, Brooks, or Asics are hideous as well, however, people wear them confidently knowing that those shoes' marketing towards running justifies their purchase, no matter the design.
