  • Dashcam footage from the 2022 MOTAT Tram Live Day, Sunday 21st August 2022.
Thanks to all the tram team at MOTAT for helping me with this. Thanks, particularly to Rob and Mike on Tram 321 who allowed me to clamber over the tram.
Video production by Scott Pilkington @spil030
Find out more about MOTAT at: www.motat.nz/events/live-day-...
    Trams featured:
No. 100: 1891 Baldwin Steam Tram Motor - Wanganui
    No. 44: 1906 A-Class Dinghy - Auckland
No. 47: 1906 Big Ben Double Decker - Wellington
    No. 135: 1921 Double Saloon - Wellington
    No. 321: 1925 W2 Class - Melbourne
    No. 248: 1938 Streamliner Class - Auckland
    No. 906: 1945 SW6 Class - Melbourne
    No. 257: 1951 Fiducia - Wellington
Music is ‘Anchors Away’ by the United States Marine Band (1925), from the same year as Tram No. 321.
The story of Tram No. 100 has recently been published. You can find out more and purchase a copy here: www.nationwidebooks.co.nz/prod...
It’s been pointed out that in the second half it looks like the lights on 47 are facing the wrong way. This is a trick of the early morning light. Once the tram stops heading south at Motions Road Corner and turns due east, the effect is lost.

What a great treasure we have to enjoy at MOTAT ,pity they didnt leave the whole network across Auckland in place ,my grand kids are coming up in july and they are very much looking forward to going onm the MOTAT trams ,i live just down the road and enjoy seeing them every day in action My Dad used to tell me about riding the old tram network back in the day to get around central Auckland on a tram

Great video. I live outside Melbourne in Oz. Unfortunately our tramway museum suffers from a lack of support and can no longer run any of its fleet on the disused former train branch line at Bylands. Coupled to the vandalism that has happened there the volunteers do a magnificent job to hang on. I recall visiting a tram museum in MZ in 2019, but it wasn't the MOTAT.

Awesome thanks! I volunteered there many years ago, when the mainstays were 248 and 321. 257 was under major refurb and 47 was just a frame!

It must look so different to you now! 321 is still the main vehicle for training, and I'm hoping one day I can be trained on it myself

Kia ora Rohan. I can't say I know definitively. You could try Graham Stewart's last book: "trams still around New Zealand" which has a good list of all the trams in NZ, including the Melbourne ones. Alternatively, the Wiki page for the W-class Melbourne trams has a list of preserved trams around the world: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-class_Melbourne_tram. In Auckland are 6: 321, 893, 906, 1032 at MOTAT, and 852 and 881 at Dockline.

Not sure yet. I've started the editing, but won't have much time in the next week or so while I work on some time-critical things. I have another Dockline tramway video coming out this Thursday though
