'Me Vasantrao' was an adbuth anubhav! That a grandson should give such a fitting tribute to his grandfather! Where he so tastefully displayed his own remarkable talent while not making it about himself and completely about the main character, Pandit Vasantraoji Deshpande. This requires so much dedication and humility! This biography so dexterously portrayed in all aspects -cast, MUSIC, direction, screenplay, dialogues- just made it a treat to watch. While listening to the musical compositions flawlessly rendered by Rahul ji Deshpande it was easy to close eyes, and feel that it was not a movie in a theatre but his live concert! What I most appreciated was understanding the person behind Khan Saheb of Katiyar... I now understood the complexity of that character, I felt humbled, saddened by the pain that Vasantraoji experienced in his lifetime. It could have broken a lesser man but here this man stood like a rock, allowed the waves of mediocrity, criticism, life's vicissitudes, to lash at him, but not break him. He emerged a winner, shaped his destiny, was a force to reckon with, non-conformist throughout life. Rather than allowing life to embitter him, he allowed the pain to seep through and transform it into his music which emerged from his heart! I think now when I listen to Panditji's compositions and music, I will listen and appreciate the dard in his voice better having an idea as to where it came from.. .Any amount of praise, compliments will not express what the magical experience of Me Vasantrao was! So often the screen would get blurry and I would quickly wipe my eyes not wanting to miss a second of the ongoing scene. I hope that Rahulji gets a national tribute in the form of this bagging the best Movie and Best Music awards and more for bringing Panditji back in the hearts of his fans.He did this first through his music, concerts, then through Katiyar movie, and now this epic movie. मी आत्ताच सिनेमा पाहून आलो, दुपारची अडनीडी वेळ ठेवल्यामुळे (कदाचित) फक्त 27 प्रेक्षक होते, बिंदीया ले गई गाणं दाखवलं नाही. जी गाणी दाखवली ती सर्व अप्रतिम, सिनेमात कुठेही कुमार गंधर्व, भीमसेन जी, हिराबाई दिसल्या नाहीत, तसेच कट्यार च्या प्रसंगापासून सिनेमा गुंडाळला असे वाटले, पु.ल. देशपांडे हे कॅरॅक्टर अजून छान करता आले असते, आणखी एका गोष्टी बद्दल अभिनंदन उगाच दारू पितात वगैरे दाखवले नाही.

I remembered the days of the Marathi sahitya sammelan Chandrapur 1977 in which I was fortunate to see katyar kaljat ghusali of Vasantrao.. Kavi Anil and Vamanrao Chorghade were other dignitaries of sammelan.

राहुलजी, खूप आतुरतेने वाट पहात असलेला हा चित्रपट दोनच दिवसापूर्वी पाहिला. वसंतरावांच्या आठवणी जागृत केल्या बद्दल खूप खूप धन्यवाद. आम्ही त्यांच्या गाण्याचे फॅन अगदी चाळीस पन्नास वर्षापासून आहोत. हा चित्रपट काढून आपण त्या सर्व स्मृती जतन केल्याबद्दल मनःपूर्वक आभार... आणि महत्त्वाचं म्हणजे यातील संगीताला केवळ आणि केवळ आपणच न्याय देऊ शकत होतात. आणि तो आपण भरभरुन दिलेला आहे. आम्हा रसिकांच्या दृष्टीने तो एक अमूल्य ठेवा आहे. उत्तरार्धातली गाणी थोडीशी लवकर उरकल्या सारखी वाटली. त्यातल्या एकेका गाण्यात तासनतास बुडून जायला आवडले असते. कदाचित चित्रपटांची ती वेळेची मर्यादा असेल. मुख्य सांगायची गोष्ट म्हणजे आपला अभिनयही अपेक्षेपेक्षा अतिशय सुंदर झालेला आहे. कदाचित तो अभिनय नसेलही आपण ते सर्व प्रसंग जगला असाल. अगदी अंतःकरणाला भिडणारा चित्रपट. पुन्हा एकदा खूप खूप धन्यवाद !!!

'Me Vasantrao' was an adbuth anubhav! That a grandson should give such a fitting tribute to his grandfather! Where he so tastefully displayed his own remarkable talent while not making it about himself and completely about the main character, Pandit Vasantraoji Deshpande. This requires so much dedication and humility!
This biography so dexterously portrayed in all aspects -cast, MUSIC, direction, screenplay, dialogues- just made it a treat to watch. While listening to the musical compositions flawlessly rendered by Rahul ji Deshpande it was easy to close eyes, and feel that it was not a movie in a theatre but his live concert!
What I most appreciated was understanding the person behind Khan Saheb of Katiyar... I now understood the complexity of that character, I felt humbled, saddened by the pain that Vasantraoji experienced in his lifetime. It could have broken a lesser man but here this man stood like a rock, allowed the waves of mediocrity, criticism, life's vicissitudes, to lash at him, but not break him. He emerged a winner, shaped his destiny, was a force to reckon with, non-conformist throughout life. Rather than allowing life to embitter him, he allowed the pain to seep through and transform it into his music which emerged from his heart!
I think now when I listen to Panditji's compositions and music, I will listen and appreciate the dard in his voice better having an idea as to where it came from.. .Any amount of praise, compliments will not express what the magical experience of Me Vasantrao was! So often the screen would get blurry and I would quickly wipe my eyes not wanting to miss a second of the ongoing scene.
I hope that Rahulji gets a national tribute in the form of this bagging the best Movie and Best Music awards and more for bringing Panditji back in the hearts of his fans.He did this first through his music, concerts, then through Katiyar movie, and now this epic movie. Thank you for all of this. Kaan va Man donhi trupta zhale!

मी आत्ताच सिनेमा पाहून आलो, दुपारची अडनीडी वेळ ठेवल्यामुळे (कदाचित) फक्त 27 प्रेक्षक होते, बिंदीया ले गई गाणं दाखवलं नाही. जी गाणी दाखवली ती सर्व अप्रतिम, सिनेमात कुठेही कुमार गंधर्व, भीमसेन जी, हिराबाई दिसल्या नाहीत, तसेच कट्यार च्या प्रसंगापासून सिनेमा गुंडाळला असे वाटले, पु.ल. देशपांडे हे कॅरॅक्टर अजून छान करता आले असते, आणखी एका गोष्टी बद्दल अभिनंदन उगाच दारू पितात वगैरे दाखवले नाही.

राहुलजी, खूप आतुरतेने वाट पहात असलेला हा चित्रपट दोनच दिवसापूर्वी पाहिला. वसंतरावांच्या आठवणी जागृत केल्या बद्दल खूप खूप धन्यवाद. आम्ही त्यांच्या गाण्याचे फॅन अगदी चाळीस पन्नास वर्षापासून आहोत. हा चित्रपट काढून आपण त्या सर्व स्मृती जतन केल्याबद्दल मनःपूर्वक आभार... आणि महत्त्वाचं म्हणजे यातील संगीताला केवळ आणि केवळ आपणच न्याय देऊ शकत होतात. आणि तो आपण भरभरुन दिलेला आहे. आम्हा रसिकांच्या दृष्टीने तो एक अमूल्य ठेवा आहे. उत्तरार्धातली गाणी थोडीशी लवकर उरकल्या सारखी वाटली. त्यातल्या एकेका गाण्यात तासनतास बुडून जायला आवडले असते. कदाचित चित्रपटांची ती वेळेची मर्यादा असेल. मुख्य सांगायची गोष्ट म्हणजे आपला अभिनयही अपेक्षेपेक्षा अतिशय सुंदर झालेला आहे. कदाचित तो अभिनय नसेलही आपण ते सर्व प्रसंग जगला असाल. अगदी अंतःकरणाला भिडणारा चित्रपट. पुन्हा एकदा खूप खूप धन्यवाद !!!

राहुल दादा चित्रपट पाहिला, अंगावर शहारा आला वसंतरावांची संगीताबद्दलची निष्ठा व संघर्ष पाहून, खूप अप्रतिम काम केलं आहे सर्वांनीच. केवळ तुमच्यामळेच आम्ही वसंतरावांना जाणून घेऊ शकलो, नाहीतर आज कुठे अशी व्यक्तिमत्त्व पाहायला मिळतात, आणि गाणी तर सर्वच अप्रतीम झालेली आहेत आपण स्वतः, श्रेया घोषाल, आणि उस्ताद राशिद खान सर्वानीच अगदी जीव ओवाळून टाकावा इतकं हृदयस्पर्शी गायन सादर केलं आहे, आपले खूप खुप आभार व अभिनंदन. आम्हाला अशीच स्वरांची मेजवानी देत रहा...! धन्यवाद...!

The film is just outstanding! The screenplay, acting, dialogues, direction, and Rahul Dada, we saw Dr. Vasantrao in you and we now do not have any regrets for not being there to listen to the great live...I am thrilled and honoured to have witnessed him. I always wanted to learn singing, I do sing, Just need to search for Guru to take it further.
