Hi 👋 Im viewing from New Zealand. I like Talk Talk , they were one of my favorite groups of the 1980s. I bought their album Spirit of Eden , back in 1986. I think thats right , im in my sixties now and my memory isnt all that good anymore.
I remember the dolphin hotel! Never been to a fair there though. 1865 is a creat venue for the Southampton fair now. Been meaning to watch that Death doc. Cheers
Many thanks Thé Hyperthetical Prophets recommendation !! Brilliant ! What an extraordinary album. And glad to see some love for Salad, one the great list bands of that era, Drink the Elixir is one of my go to tunes from that period. All the best George
Another good one George, I too remember renting cassettes, and even UFO vinyl way back when, from the library. Cheap way of getting copies of stuff when, like you said, not everything was available at your fingertips. I do miss that to a certain extent. You always knew your mates by who had what!
Hello George - your mention of obscure “hard rock” has me asking if you have yet to sample the absolute killer ‘74 LP “Space Amazon” by the US band Pandora? You owe it to yourself if you have not yet checked this out. Very impressive for a debut. Cheers - Edit: Pandora on the Supreme Echo label. Lastly, the group Silver “children of the lord” from ‘75 (private French pressing avail on Discogs) Space Amazon (Pandora) is a very well polished production, whereas Children of the Lord (Silver) must be listened to closely with a need for re-mastering (the stuff is all there, you just have to listen carefully)!
Always nice to get reccomendations from the humble VC, will need to check that one out George. I do quite like the Groundhogs, Thank Christ for the Bomb is one i'm after...Bob Mortimer aye??..you really can't beat early Queen when they were a fantastically visceral hard rock band. After Night At the Opera i can take or leave their albums bar some great singles.
Thanks Rob. Thank Chirst.. is a superb record, probably their best in my view. I agree with Queen - my taste go a bit further up to News of The World (my favourite by them), then it's game over for me. Sadly their hits have become overplayed and don't get me started on putting their tunes on adverts!
Hogwash, much better than Who will save the World the mighty Groundhogs , but not as good as Thank Christ for the Bomb or Split , but excellent never the less, seen them 4 times over the years !
Thanks Mike - never got to see the Hogs myself 😞 I agree re Who Will Save... - listened to that recently and wasn't hugely impressed if honest. It was ok. It does have the best sleeve of course!

My favourite Queen is the Queen 2 - must have played that to death over the years - nice find getting the BBC on vinyl - I’ve got the CD 💿 boo!

Great to hear there are other Salad fans out there. Wonderful and unfortunately overlooked from the Britpop era.

Very true. Totally different times indeed. So much of my early music taste was from borrowed or taped stuff!
A neighbour got cassettes from the library for me - Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Yes. Then I had some money to buy albums from 1974.
That's the way things end up!

I do indeed have 2 sides, but have not spun for some time.
Well worth a revisit I take it.
