I have thought about this before but never thought about the subfloor idea. That's why I watch your videos. That is an excellent tip. Thank you sir!

We traded one of our daschund puppies for one of these cages and we got a huge crate. Our duck is occupying it right now to keep him safe. But yes this cage is awesome and put that rabbit manure in your garden soil

Also, if you have these cages on a stand, you can put a drain hole in one corner of the pan and set a bucket under it to catch the urine.

There is marten around the house/barn here. I suspect one can get through those gaps?
Although i'd need to fix up a backcover from ibc or some such (stone barn and rent) it is an interesting option.

Never had to deal with Martens.

These dog crates rust like crazy once they get wet more than once or twice. I have several that I've had to replace from using them while house training dogs because the latch rusts up so bad its near impossible to open or close. Its not a bad option for a temporary cage but I'd never use one long term.

I wonder if you can use the divider as a loft, now I've got to go see if I can find it.😂 I've got an XL dog gage and was trying to figure out how to build the loft area.

You can make that work, I have, what I call bunkbeds in my breeder rabbit cages so the moms can get a break from the kits.

That is NOT ENOUGH SPACE for rabbit!!!! WIRE FLOORS are HARMFUL for rabbits feet!!! Educate yourself and treat your animals like u would like to be treated or dont have any!

You don't know about rabbits. Wire floors if right size holes (1' x 1/2') don't hurt the rabbits.

Thank you! They make very good heavy-duty cages. I started doing this with old cages I already had and seen how good it worked out.

Good idea! My cages are L & XL & missing trays. Like $7 at thrift stores & $10 on marketplace. I turned my cages upside down so larger spaces at top which is handy as my hand fits right through without having to open the door as much. I put the wire mesh flat on the bottom & set the cages on 2x4s for outside & put a piece of scrap plywood for roof. If inside maybe dollar tree kitty litter pans & outside just a yardstick & hose to clean droppings. Both fit on a foldout table. I still need to better winterize outside & make a warm hutch somehow. Still brainstorming it.

    • @papawsplace
      @papawsplace  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Depending on the size of the rabbit, you could make a hutch out of a 5 gallon bucket (or totes) and attach to the outside of the cage. That way the hutch will not take up room in the cage.

Great ideaxc. My bunnies use litter box and i usually place cardboard on bottom. I'll have to try this subfloor. 😊

They sell Cages with the subfloor if you don't have dog cages already.

I got me some new dog creates I bought me 6 large put a cat litter pan from the dollar tree J-feeders and it was great but I just hated to empty out that litter box everyday plus they didn’t always wet on the substrate so they got gunky behinds and yes they were to large. I also thought about putting a wire bottom but couldn’t figure out how. Darn it anyways I sold them and now I want them back if I can do the floors like you it will be perfect. Thank you.

That sounds like me, anytime I get rid of something, later I wish I had it back. LOL I seen on Amazon they have rabbit cages that work like the dog cages I modified. Not sure how strong they are though.

I already have dog crates and floor wire and wanted to do this…. But I was in a debate with myself about how to attach it.
Lo and behold, I found you!
You proved it’s a great idea- I’m getting my zip-ties out now.
I have nice wire hanging cages but my 7 dog crates are going to waste. Now I’ll have extra grow-outs for my bunnies! I’ve subscribed and look forward to watching more of your videos!

Can this be used outside? I’m scared my bunny will get attacked by rats stealing her food at night or raccoons (with the holes in it rats can squeeze through and get food) I have a large dog cage though and It would be great if I could use it.
