@@Mahalo_83 It was BASED off the truck engine. Dodge gave the iron block and head v10 to Lamborghini and got back an all aluminum v10 with different internals. The only truck that the viper ever shared an engine with was the Ram SRT-10.

Used vipers, especially the early models, are stupid cheap. You can find them in the mid/high 20's
Don't forget the ram viper truck. I bought my quadcab for 13k. The regular cabs are more expensive they come with the 6sp t56 trans they start at 20k normally
I kick myself for passing up on a 95 rt10 viper here in pa, only 17k in ugly hulk hogan/Ronald McDonald red with yellow 3spoke wheels and interior trim. There's a few for sale in the need work category if you don't mind shipping it from Pennsylvania

1991tommygun if it's not pouring out coolant no dont turn it off. The temp will spike way higher after you shut it. Let the waterpump and rad do their thing at idle
1991tommygun Yes. Shutting it off prevents coolant from cycling through the engine, so it just sits there cooking itself.
1991tommygun depends. If it overheating cause youve been romping on it then let it idle or drive at low rpms to let it cool itself down, but if if its cause of a problem then shut it off. Even herts non mechanically sympathetic ass said "maybe let it run"

I'm not saying you're wrong, because you aren't completely wrong, but using "they aren't even the same material" isn't really a good argument. Look at GM small block V8s, they have multiple iron & aluminum block engines that are more or less the same but just different materials.
rbeaton16 iron an aluminum make engines completely different. People either say it's a truck v10 or its a 5.9 with 2 extra cylinders. Both are wrong. The 5.9 and 8.0 dont have the same cylinder displacement

In 1987 Chrysler bought Lamborghini for 25 Million. In 1990 they built the Diablo together and sold Chrysler Lamborghini in 1994. The Viper Project started in 89-90 in Collaboration with Carroll Shelby so the Diablo and Viper share some lineage. Since the Viper had a Manual gearbox all the way through the production it's more of a car that I would want to drive but I'm not a Lawyer. Automatic gearboxes and driver aids are for fast cars, Manual gearboxes are for fast drivers.

I have owned 3 vipers now and i can guarantee that viper was not overheating, these run very hot and just because its over the middle line does not mean its its overhead by anymeans. I own an 09 now so dont have to deal with that but the older ones just run very hot.

if it was a truck engine, there would be know need put viper on the side of a srt10 dodge 1500.
