      It has changed a lot, when i grew up there in the late 60s/early 70s we still had the old RT & Routemaster buses, the High Street was the North Circular and all the jugganaughts drove along it. Until the relief road was built at Ilford when it all moved across.....

    Brilliant. This was my old area, good to see the old S1's again. Many trips to East ham station or Stratford. I notice plenty of traffic heading up the High St North, a few years later they closed it off to cars.

      Yes, i remember the S1s of old, MBS's when i first rode on them, with RT's on the 101 & 147s......At Stratford they turned at the Broadway rather than the bus station which yet built!

    Another great video Soi, I have a fondness for the Titans so it's nice to see them featured here.
    What shame the mighty 15 is a shadow of its former self when you realise at one point you could conceivably go from East Ham to Acton or even Kew Gardens. Now it's just Blackwall to Trafalgar Square which is a shame.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, i used to travel on the 15s (and 5s & 23s) to go to school in Canning Town. A major route, one of the biggest allocations, and now it's just been decimated.......i would never have imagined it like it is today, it had been a major route right back to horse bus days.....

    • @martynthomas7486
      @martynthomas7486 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, add up the miles ran per day on the 5, 15 and 23 along with their A, B and even C variants and it came to quite a lot!

    I can recall the No 15 route master buses on the Barking Road to go into Popular each weekend. The Square Mile was in its infancy with foundations being built for the high rise buildings that stand today.

    Wish they left the white roundels in place. The new colour ones made the buses look less tidy and came off as change for change's sake.
    Was interesting seeing an RMC with it though. I do like it's air door. Were they OMO?

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When used by British European Airways they were driven (& maintained) by LT staff. I believe the airline had a staff member on board to look after the passengers. When LT brought them they were put into service on the 175 route. But the conductors hated them as there were no handpoles on them. They were soon withdrawn and used as Staff Buses or driver trainers. The Staff Buses were driven by Aldenham engineering staff, the driver trainers had the staircase removed so the Instructors could reach into the cab easily. Northern General rebuilt one of their Routemasters (they brought 50 RML length RMA style buses which had blind boxes) but it wasn't very successful and only the one was done. In the 90s RMA 5 & 8 had blind boxes fitted and went into service at Upton Park on the X15 & 15 routes, both with conductors.

      @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus You could tell they had high speed axles as they took off as the gear stretched for longer.
      I drove a Mercedes Benz which had a high speed diff centre accidentally installed by the garage staff and it was doing something like 90km/h when the dash said 60 lol.
      It honestly seemed to perform better from rest that way.
