Man, this took me back to that night in my home in Far Rockaway, N.Y.. I was just 11 at the time. Great stuff to relive.

I liked Howard Cosell's retrospectives at the appropriate time, but during play by play he was constantly stepping over Keith Jackson who was trying to deliver a quality call. Same with the other color commentator, can't tell if it was Earl Weaver for this game. Blurting out "home run" has no nuance whatsoever.

Keith Jackson calls everything with such intensity and feeling. I think only Vin Scully did it better.

The 70’s had some wild and woolly on the field celebrations. Ridiculous! Chambliss has to channel his inner full back to even cross home plate! It’s a wonder someone didn’t get killed out there! I wonder when the cops and MLB finally put a stop to that bull?

13:15 The Yankees got a break on that play, royals got robbed, Brett was due to bat next.

You may be right. He may have been out, he may have been safe, but it was a big.break for the Yankees. Had Brett come up with the bases loaded, they would’ve bought in Lyle, but given how Brett had hit so far in this series, I have no clue how they would’ve gotten him out. They had no place to put him. The best the Yankees could’ve hoped for was a hard hit right at someone.

Chambliss didn’t touch the home plate! So, does not count.

He was awarded home plate based on the fans interfering as he rounded the bases.

@@ckendall67 That wasn’t initial ruling on the field by umpire. Instead, MLB officials retracted the ruling couple days later.

Kind of difficult to touch home plate when the filed is covered with fans lol

On Wiki, it says they escorted back out from the lockeroom to touch home plate, but it was stolen. So he touched the area of the home plate. The kicker: the umps would have awarded him the run anyway because of the situation.
