Keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace. They pop up a lot. It’s about the only reason I even have Facebook lol…that and the bike groups are a wealth of information too.
When i was like 15 my brother in law had a 1972 , Yamaha DT 175 exact same color as yours, thing always ran great. He let me ride it whenever i wanted to, i grew up on a dairy farm, rode that thing every where , you done a great job on yr restoring this 250, hardly any wear on this machine 👍, excellent riding area …
All of my Yamahas are so reliable from that era. They used a lot of quality parts…I always remark how all the old Yamahas I work on have suspension that still dampens. I don’t think I’ve had one yet that the rear shocks don’t “pogo” on me like all the old Hondas I have lol
I had a 74 ty250 that had a compression release (jake brake) . I actually used it as a brake on some of the slick downhills. love the colour of that bike
Love Old Dirt Bikes. My First Motorcycle After Minibikes Was A Yamaha 125 AT2 1972. Improvements: 21" Front Rim & Knobbys Front To Handle Better. Knobby Rear, Expansion Chamber Ring-A-Ding Ding, 2 Cycle With Compression Release. Your Comment Makes Me Laugh. Neighbor Dogs Would Chase Us On Our Bikes. I Would Hit The Compression Release: BahBah, Those Dogs Would Run Away & We Would Laugh. Great Brake System. Godspeed Your Journeys, Mr. T.
Got one of these in my shed all to pieces. Wrecked it doing something stupid and never put it back together. Really enjoyed your refurb series on this bike. Makes me want to do the same.
Good bike in the day. I bought mine new when I was seventeen and still have it. Hate the kickstart but otherwise an adequate trail bike. I mostly ride my ttr 230 and wr250r, much more fun for me trail riding. Besides, two-stroke are loud!
This is in western Pennsylvania. I am fortunate to have had these trails in my backyard since I started riding in ‘93. A lot of this stuff has been there since the early 70s.
You can rotate the kick starter lever forward until the peddle almost touches the case . You have more effort to access the peddle but the lever is out of the way.
Love it! I just bought the same bike. I have been enjoying getting it trail worthy again. What size is your front tire? They come with a 3.25x19. I am having trouble finding that size in the tire I want. Is the tire on your bike a 2.75x19? I can find that tire in the one I want. Thank you, Subbed.👍
Thanks for the sub! You’ll love that bike. Mine has a 21” on the front. Someone had converted it from the stock 19”. I forgot to mention that in the video. They also put that Preston petty front “high” fender on to accommodate the bigger front wheel. Rolls over bigger obstacles easier with the bigger front. That and having a bigger tire selection vs the 19”
@Garage2Trail I should add that I love these earlier DT250's. My brother bought a brand new 76/77 250. Then a '78 too. Which being Monoshock handled much better off road. I like twin shock bikes, the system is away from dirt and mud. Linkages just sit there exposed to crud. Our mate had a '75 model, I think that it was blue.
73 ' I was 15 yrs old I bought a 72 ' CT-2 175 for 800.00 Dollars big dream you guys once a month one hundred bucks was placed on the bike , 8 Mo's later my cherry red Yammer was in the garage and was legal to ride Mwas mine
@@Garage2Trailit has a lot more grunt like the dt250, compared to the more peaky Suzuki ts185. More nimble than the 250 and doesn’t have the kickstart hitting your ankle all day, that part really bothered me
Nice to see it used as intended, not just 'collected' Good to stop and check things and that grip sliding off, very disconcerting. A good advert for Yamaha 50+ years later. What an engine, defying the tyres! You're right the later Dts were more 'road' orientated, became heavier although check out the authors '75 Dt video ridden with better tyres and drier conditions. Some people prefer the lighter 175 for more serious off road work. th-cam.com/video/3jX2x52GoYE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HlOZYKR-LQ6u-rYo
I’d like to get good tires on this thing and go again…in a perfect world I could put good knobs on the DT, MT and TS that I have and do a head to head shootout in the woods to have a fair comparison. I need to find a 175…would be cool to put head to head against the TS185.
I think it depends on the kind of riding you do. For the “hard enduro” more technical riding, it’s justified. I didn’t think it would be until I rode my buddy’s bike in those conditions. I would have been happy riding my XR400 as my woods bike if I didn’t have his to compare to lol. I realize how much longer I’m able to ride on my beta because it’s so much lighter and ergonomically designed for that kind of riding. That being said, I’ll never sell my XR because it’s still my favorite all around bike to me…just not my choice in those extreme conditions where you get worn out fast on a heavy bike with dated suspension.
Something about those 70's colours are so cool, the candy orange and red and mint green. Nice way to spend your lunch break
I wish I was riding on lunch break 😆
Yeah my neighbour had a purple Yamaha FS1E 1974 so envious
Man i wish i could find old bike like these. I grew up riding old bikes from the 70's since my dad had multiple bikes from then

Oh I may need to try using that next time I’m on that bike, thanks! It’s probably my favorite DT…the color and lines are perfect in my opinion.

@mrmarkthompson2361 this one also has the 21” front wheel conversion. Forgot to mention that on the video. That’s awesome that it scared the dogs lol
A beautiful bike. You have an awesome place to ride.
Thank you! I’m lucky to have these trails basically in my backyard.
Yeah I'm an og been riding for 45 years, how good was it to see hear the old girl banging around.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for watching…and that’s awesome. good to know it helped get you motivated to get that bike back together!
I love these bikes and I love the faux ‘The Hives’ punk guitar music at the intro!
Thanks! Just some stock music TH-cam provides royalties free 😆. It was catchy and upbeat so I made that the theme music! 👍
Nice DT. I had two of those tangerine 72's. Maybe the best looking enduro ever?

You are right there is more ground clearance on the side pipe bikes!!! In 1974 Yamaha went with the motocross frame they had an inch less clearance!!!
The 75 I have doesn’t ride bad either but this one just feels better for full on trails riding
Keep it for Sure, that is a great bike
Also not sure where youre riding but it looks like an awesome little playground

Good tip, thank you!
Checked my kickstarter and yours looks to be the same . But I noticed yours is more forward. Try adjusting it back to about the 10 o’clock position.
Ahh good eye! I’ll give that a try, thank you!
Great series btw. 🙂
I appreciate that, thanks again!
Well observed.
I need another old two smoke trail bike!
You can’t go wrong with them!

Mx175 in my area, thinking real hard about it
The '70's is too broad a period. Bikes improved so much.
Good point…so many innovations in that short amount of time

I really gotta find a 175 to have on here. Would like to compare it on the trails.

I actually just bought a ‘73 CT175 at Mid Ohio. It might be the next bike I start on
@@Garage2Trail I’ll be watching for it. Fun to see someone else who actually rides the old bikes too!
@DarinMcQuoid I definitely will. My dad had the same bike new in ‘73 when he got back from Vietnam so I hope to maybe get him on this one too!
