Being well rounded is more important. I have a 4.67 overall GPA, but my social skills are non existent so 🤷♀️. I am an Asian and I know that Harvard wont be taking me. They recently stated in a court case that they reject a lot of Asians not because of racial prejudice, but because a lot of Asians happen to have no personality. I don’t know the validity of this claim overall but it definitely applies to me. Fml

I studied with the Khan Academy SAT program, which I found really helpful because you can use them to find your weak spots and practice them specifically. Concentrate on those, and also take some timed practice tests beforehand to get your pacing down. If you prepare in advance and have confidence you are bound to improve ! -michelle

I'm pretty sure the guy going to the University of Washington will have the least debt, the guy going to Stanford has a broad major and may have a large pool of potential employers, but the girl going to USC is majoring in business, so she may have the most stable job.

we all aimed high with testing so the group's score range is small; however, since coming to our respective schools, we can say that there's a much larger range of scores among the students admitted - ardelle
UniversiTea hmm so with that in mind, how much do colleges take your respective schools avg scores into consideration? Because I scored a 30 but my schools avg is 18
@@SaturnsApollo that i can't say for sure... however the scores among our group were generally higher than our school average, which i imagine would look good to admissions counselors. in your case, way above average is definitely a good thing!
You don’t need perfect scores. You could also have a wealthy father.
Perhaps the person with a 2.5 GPA qualified for the USAMO, USACO, USAPho, USAChO, etc. summer camps. Maybe the person also competed in both summer and winter olympics in fifteen sports overall, placing first in all of them. You get it. The person has to have outstanding extracurriculars to make up for their poor GPA.

from our experience, a cohesive application that represents you in all aspects is what matters most - college admissions can be unpredictable, and it goes to show that no set of stats guarantee an acceptance or rejection! however, if it helps, i have heard that caleb's essays were pretty solid (: - ardelle

I thought you said the scores were diverse. You all scored super high. I do like that some of you didn’t have tons of clubs because that is what I am worried for my applications right now.
I guess what we meant is that for more selective schools, there’s usually a certain benchmark of scores that you have to reach to be seriously considered, so once your past that, the exact number can vary a bit -mich

Heyyy, ya I didn't do much but I spent a lot of time on my essays and really tried to show my personality with genuine answers and a prompt I really connected with. I tried to communicate my time in high school as spent with people more than with clubs!
NHS was def something I put time into as a tutor and I tried to bring that out in my essays!

You guys got KILLER GRADES! Good job :) I got rejected from both four year colleges I applied to (had a 3.4 GPA with no AP classes) so I had to get my act together and get good grades at a two year college. It paid off cuz I'm transferring to the same four year college that rejected me back in 2016! 😁

You guys and gals are inspirations! I was expecting for you guys to have 5 or more clubs and prestigious extracurriculars- I thought I had to satisfy this standard.
My only obstacle is the SAT but I study daily and I am improving. Any tips would be appreciated, though the video itself is helpful enough!
thank you!! there are so many examples of insane resumes out there and not enough like ours, so that's why we're here! as for any test, practice is v important. none of us are test-taking geniuses or have photographic memories (except for alex maybe?? unconfirmed but we're sus lol) so we all had to suffer through it.. good luck though!

E.T. Go Home I took the ACT so I don’t have any advice for the SAT particularly, but I used PrepScholar ACT to study for my test and it raised my score from a 28 to a 33 in two
months & they offer a SAT version as well! It is expensive but they offer a point guarantee (not exactly sure what it is for SAT but for ACT they guaranteed me 4 points or I got my money back)
I’m from washington too, in SYSO, 690 reading 800 math, considering Brown, and submitted my Stanford REA last week! Hope I can join Julie or Kaleb next year!!

you still have a lot of time! it's good to start prepping yourself early, but don't let stress prevent you from enjoying your time in high school - ardelle
If you want to get an early start, I would highly suggest finding something you're truly passionate about (easier said than done) and starting to join extra curricular a based on that. You can worry about your sat and stuff later but I think it's very important to get an early start on extra curriculars

yeah I applied to two Canadian schools in addition to Brown & the apps were sooooo much easier! they literally took 10 minutes & didn’t even have essays or letters of rec :) -julie

I got into Northwestern and Cornell, two of my reach schools and I ended up choosing Northwestern. I had a 3.8 gpa, took 14 ap classes, got a 1540 sat, was in band, robotics club, and debate team, but debate team was only for a year.
JusyClouds They were all in school, freshman I took 1, sophomore I took 2, junior I took 6, senior I took 5. I got around six hours of sleep for both junior and senior though so I was fine.

I know this is an older video, but for students who didn’t do well in high school there are still ways to get into a great college. Take classes at a community college and get amazing grades. Volunteer or better yet, start your own volunteer program. The top colleges want their students to be the future leaders of the US and the world. Show them that you’re a leader and have worked hard to get into college despite having a few years where you were finding yourself. They don’t want robots who just do well on tests. I hope this helps someone.
i go to UW. my SAT (no essay) was 1160, gpa was 3.6 but i did community college junior and senior year. i was also homeschooled prior to jr year. had a part time job, volunteer hours, and photography as a hobby. definitely would not have been able to get into an ivy but donut lose hope bc my stats seem pretty unimpressive to me lol !
What??? Seriously??? I am junior and I was about to apply for UW(Seattle) on this year. For now my unweighted is 3.4-3.5ish and my weighted gpa is 4.2. I did various jobs and volunteered a lot. And I am going to community college right now instead of AP classes (so far I have 52 college credits).I kinda have low unweighted gpa but high weighted gpa cuz I took so many college level classes. I am worrying about my low unweighted gpa cuz my major is engineering. I kinda fucked up my SAT so I am expecting around 1200 on this time. But I have one or two more chances to take. Do you think I can get into there if I improve my SAT more than 1300 before I apply? (I am in state)

In terms for the SAT how much did you practice and how long were your study sessions? I’m taking the March SAT and trying to get higher than a 1300. Personally for me that’s not really hard but not that easy. I just want to know what you did for studying for SAT and how often you studied for it. Thank you this processes is very stressful and I just want to get a good grade on my SAT.
some of us took courses throughout hs, some studied on our own! both michelle and i started studying on our own a month before our first test, aiming for a short section per day and a full practice test on khan academy every weekend. i hope you find a system that works for you, and good luck on your test! - ardelle

I got a 1540 by watching the SAT strategy videos on 1600.io and going over practice tests on 1600.io. I also used UWorld for practice questions. All of these resources are free.

we went to shorewood high school! it's just a normal public high school lol. usually we only get an ivy once every three years, but our class was an exception for some reason. we got into our schools largely due to personal ambition and hard work rather than our high school's program :) . -julie
