Rather than being "stupid" for boarding the airship knowing she'd be surrounded, I'd say she was suicidal and just wanted to make an impact for Marley against Paradis in that moment because she was depressed and angered by two of her closest friends dying. She was definitely stubborn, though.
Humans are irrational when under extreme duress and it makes us do some questionable things in the heat of the moment. I feel like if Gabi had taken a while longer to get there, she prolly would’ve realized how unwise it’d be throw herself into the lion’s den like that.
For everyone that was so dissapointed that Gabi didn't turn against the propaganda, she's been fed her whole life, after the Episode with Kaya, please remember this: Reiner did believe that the people of Paradis were devils even after living 3 years with them. He said this during the secret meetings with bert and annie on Paradis in the s4e3 flashbacks. And even when they killed Marco, a part of Reiner still curses his Paradisian friends as devils. Yet Reiner ist still a beloved character of the Attack on Titan fandom. So in conclusion: If Reiner needed more than 3 years to overcome his propaganda engraved thoughts, maybe we should be a little more patient with Gabi. I got a feeling things might change soon.

Annie continued to kill despite 3 years of realizing that Paradisians were not bad people. Gabi went 180 just hours after the restaurant scene. You can argue that Annie is more likeable but its a fact she and Reiner are 5x more criminal than Gabi

Also adding onto this cause I’m bored and got a notification from this comment: the whole purpose on why Annie would still “kill” was because she wanted to go back to her father. She only wanted to go to her father, as that’s the only person who “cared” for her. Reiner forced her the RBA gang to still go on the mission, despite losing Marcel. Years later, even into the mission if they had returned empty handed, surely, they would’ve been fed to the next candidates. Secondly, I don’t think Annie wanted to really kill anyone. All she wanted was Eren, and then to run back out, return home. In Titan form, she usually ignored people, however, when they’d attack her that’s when she would retaliate. I don’t believe Annie ever really liked killing people, Marco death proves that, saving Connie proved that, the fact that she looked down on the church people proved that.. and more stuff. During her last battle against Eren, you could easily argue that Eren was more reckless than Annie.
Imagine being 12, your kind is being treated as lab rats, drowned in propaganda, blinded by the stories the soldiers sent from the other side, and you have the drive to really NEED to prove yourself that your race isn't shit, trying your best to appease the beings higher than you. Meanwhile there is an Eldian who jokingly steals precious rations on the citadel and stealing her teammate's kills, if her taste for food wasn't that refined, i guess Niccollo won't even give a shit about her and treat her like the Eldians he served food with.
Not to mention she also killed Pieck's nice comrade Carlo and helped the terrorists Eren and Armin to escape (also, Gabi thought the Scouts killed Zeke too). Gabi was 100% justified.
Gabi is just a female Eren (the younger version, not the adult one that has matured), she was subject to propaganda, and even her dear Uncle Reiner that she looked up to and admired said that the Eldian is nothing but full of devils, so we have a world full of propaganda telling her that all the suffering that she has ever been through is because of the Eldian race. Ofc she is going to despise them, she is just a young impressionable naive child. Just because Falco is far more mature than Gabi doesn't mean that Gabi is immature and stupid, it just means that Falco is far smarter than her. Honestly, I want to hate Gabi so much, but I just can't because if we hate, then we should hate Eren as well. She went through the same sufferings that Eren went through and is doing the same things that Eren did when he was just a teen, she saw how the "evil" Eldians destroyed her city, killed her friends and loved ones, and brought suffering to them. Eren's attack, just proved all the propaganda that she was fed all her life. Honestly I think had Gabi went to Paradise as a warrior and lived with the Island Eldians she would've matured and would've had an identity crisis just like Reiner. Gabi isn't my favorite character from the show, but I don't hate her, as much as I want to.

If you ever had political discussions with... well, anyone, it really makes Gabi more understandable. Obviusly, you don't eliminate all the efects of a xenophobic education and propaganda in just a few days. The fact that Gabi didn't change so fast just makes her a more realistic character. Not everyone will change their perspective of the whole world in a day alone.
I never hated Gabi. I loved Sasha but I've forgiven Gabi for what she did. I'm rather sympathetic towards her. She was a child of war. She's like kid eren but from Marley
I saw her as another version of Eren and Sasha mixed. She carries herself like a young Eren filled with rage and looking for justice. Main difference is she did it for acknowledgement from her peers, while Eren did it for passion and his skewed perspective of justice. Wonderful character writing!
If you ask me - an anime only - it's very simple: to hate Gabi is to ignore why she is the way she is. I never even disliked the character; she's a victim.

I always liked Gabi, her personality was great, i loved how she wasn’t the “sharing is caring” or “always kind” person, it really nice to see a character who was happy and joking around while still being serious sometimes, she even compliments herself which is pretty cool as well. Sasha didn’t even have any character development, and what did people actually love her for? Potato girl? That’s it? Gabi in my opinion had every right to kill Sasha, Sasha literally just came and shot two guys in from of her face nearly killing her. The only one I blame for the death of Sasha is Isayama, as for Gabi I simply find her as much annoying as I found Eren in the first seasons. So a lot. I understand that having their home, family and friends killed before their eyes by the very enemies they've always been taught to hate only makes their hatred grow exponentially, but that doesn't mean I completely accept their stubbornness.

I feel like those who hate on Gabi really need to put themselves in her situation. the people of Paradis came and killed so many Marley people and destroyed her home and killed the people who she grew up with. I also think its not fair to compare Gabi to Falco. First of all, he probally is just wiser at the core and maybe has a less detrimental family background, but he also had the benefit of seeing their respected elder and hero Reiner bow down of his own free will. before a "devil" and beg for forgiveness and confess his guilt and wrong-doing. Gabby didn't get to see that. She never had a role model show her that the islanders aren't evil. Alas many people fail to understand that AoT's world does not exclusively revolve around Paradisians and their humanity. Falco's people in Marley and the rest of the world are as human as them, and Falco's always gonna prioritize them, his loved ones, over total strangers from Paradis any day. If he became a warrior, he would still help destroying Paradis, just like Bertholdt, Annie, and Reiner did. Because NO ONE's gonna ditch their people like that, just because they found out their enemies are also humans. Funny how many fanboys praise Falco for being understanding of his enemies and all, yet they CANNOT do the same to Reiner's side. Most of the fanboys are biased selfish hypocrite who behave the same, if not worse, than Gabi, and even cheered when Eren and Armin were killing random unarmed civilians, because to the fanboys all outside Paradis are equally "devils". No. We're fans of nuanced storytelling and character building. A lot of Gabi fans mostly just appreciate what she stood for in the story and the message of her character arc. He should've been dragged across the coals for that, not just for the fact that his ending came off to many people as some kind of twisted justification for an act of genocide on Eren's part.
Gabi sneaking on the airship was dumb. But honestly, Eren charging head-first into a horde of Titans right after one just ate Thomas Wagner was even dumber. Hence why he lost his leg!
Don't care if it was dumb or not. Someone from the Eren main group needed to kick the bucket. The Liberio attack going with such heavy losses in the Marley side, and ending with no consequences for both biased audience and Eren's friends would've been unacceptable.
I hated her before I watched I watched s4 and as soon as I watched it, I became to like her and understand why she did what she did. Shes now one of my fav characters

Man my opinion in this...Joffrey was a character to be hated....he had a background, we learned to hate him even more with time....Gabi is just poorly written. Falco been trhough the same shit as her, but is not a psychopath, and is actually likeable...Gabi isn't, and comparing her to Sasha was just a punch in the guts

I hope she doesn't get any character development so it would be very satisfying to watch her end. But I really like your take on her character. Edit: Just the kind of personality that she has, an arrogant egomaniac, is enough not to like her. And to those thinking that how someone feels about a fictional character translates to how they would feel towards a real person with similar traits, get your emotions in check because that's not how it is. This is your logic: A person killing enemies in a video game would kill people in real life.
Falco is not in the same situation as Gabi, his uncle was a restorationist, suggesting that the Grice family weren't as brainwashed as the Braun's. Also, Falco was present at Eren and Reiner's conversation.
@@melancholygirl7793 You're right that it's not totally the same, that's why I only said "basically", but my point was, you can't really claim that ANYONE would've done the same thing given the exact same circumstances. People have different personalities. Nature plays a big part in our actions/reactions just as much as nurture. Not saying she should be like Falco. Her character is a nice contrast to his and I think the writers really did that on purpose as kind of a fan service, making someone so detestable for audience to root against them so eventually killing off that character or turning them around completely would be such a moment in the show. (Edit:Added) For the sake of the story, I prefer that between Gabbi and Falco, one should defect and the other should be steadfast in their original belief. I personally want Gabbi to take on the latter role and inherent a titan so she could give us a very satisfying all-out titan fight for the ages against any of our titan protagonists before ultimately losing everything in that fight. But even if the story goes on a different direction, I'd still take it because truly loving something, not just a show, means accepting all of it, even the parts you dont like. Also, saying she did nothing wrong is a bit extreme in my opinion. It's like claiming there is ethically nothing wrong in killing (since a lot of other people like to think in real life context). I would argue though that she had every right and freedom to react/respond however she needed to process the hellish experience that she and everyone she cares about were put through. I completely understand why she did what she did but understanding doesn't necessarily mean agreeing or liking.
You're missing a lot of stuff here. Falco and Gabi have different personalities even from birth, she's more impulsive, hot-headed and emotional. He is more calm, quiet but also too trusting. Then you have their families - in the latter chapters of the manga you have a moment which perfectly describes it through the 2 different reactions of the Gabi's parents and Falco's parents. Basically the Brauns are more nationalistic, more brainwashed, more devoted to Marley and from there Gabi and Reiner are too. The Grices are more cautious, they have family history of being restorationists (Falco's uncle). You can see through Falco's conversation with Reiner in episode 2 of season 4 that in his eyes being a titan shifter is no good. While for Gabi becoming one is an honour. Let's also look at their goals - Falco became a warrior candidate specifically for Gabi, he wanted to save her from that faith. Gabi on the other hand wanted to free the eldians from the Interment zone and to prove that they're good people to the world, she is someone who is really determined and hard-working. You criticize that she has ego but she is literally the best warrior candidate and has best scores at everything - knowing history, knowing how to fight, having loyalty and so on and she is CONSTANTLY praised for it. I mean Colt called her "our Eldian godess" when he was drunk and then at dinner her parents told her that she would save Eldia. If people treated me like that I'd also have an ego. And lastly - Gabi was present at the attack on Liberio and saw her two best friends die in horrific ways FIRST HAND. She witnessed all the chaos and destruction from Eren, while Falco didn't. He was also present at Reiner's and Eren's talk where he heard first hand about their experiences and saw Reiner break down in front of him, while for Gabi, Reiner has always put kind of a mask. Add to that the fact that Falco blames himself for attack because he was the one who sent the letters (the anime kinda skipped this moment) so he feels responsible for everything and doesn't feel like he can get mad for something he has "done".

before watching the last season of aot I knew gaby was one of the most hated character of the show and despite the fact I really loved sasha... I just cannot hate her. yes she was annoying in the beginning but then her evolution is very well-written imo
I get it but it is still very frustrating. I mean it was her cousin reiner who did the Same thing to eren and destroyed his home town. So I guess I understand her side and how she felt. I hate gabi because she does things that shouldn't happen. Like sneaking onto the airship. That was annoying, then escaping prison, and having the aim of a trained military sniper that has been on the workforce for 22years.
Things like that happen in Anime a lot. "Unlikely things that shouldn't happen to kid protagonists but happen anyway" is fairly common in different kinds of animated stories. Eren and other characters have pulled this off as well.

I quite like Gabi, but partially because I disagree with what you say in the 2nd half of this video. She DOES overcome her conditioning. She learns to see the people of Paradis as just normal people and by the time of the Rumbling would never want to kill everyone in the island. I think she turns around much faster than Reiner ever did, and likely wouldn’t have even participated in an invasion like he was going to. She changed. Also, I disagree with the idea that her and Eren’s situations were equivalent at the beginning. There is nothing wrong with killing titans, it is always morally correct. At the start of the series, Eren’s worldview is completely justified, Paradis is being oppressed by titans. But before Eren attacks Liberio, the propaganda being pumped into Eldians in Marley about Paradis is completely false, and ultimately the “devils” only come for Marley because Marley killed 20% of their population 10 years ago and was planning to come back for more.

Killing Sasha was forgivable because she did it whilst not knowing the whole truth, how could she have known? That's why Armin, Jean, and even Niccolo grew to understand her What's unforgivable is Reiner, Annie, and Berthold killing Marco despite realizing for years that Paradisians weren't bad people. YEARS and they still decided to Kill Paradisians Whereas Gabi, in less than a week turned to good.

Isayama said he loves Gabi and didn't expect the hate for her to be so overblown and ridiculous. As Isayama himself said, he even partially based her on a character he liked (Arya Stark). In fact, it was the excessive love for Eren that Isayama never understood. Reiner did believe that the people of Paradis were devils even after living 3 years with them. He said this during the secret meetings with bert and annie on Paradis in the s4e3 flashbacks. And even when they killed Marco, a part of Reiner still curses his Paradisian friends as devils. Yet Reiner ist still a beloved character of the Attack on Titan fandom.
So in conclusion: If Reiner needed more than 3 years to overcome his propaganda engraved thoughts, maybe we should be a little more patient with Gabi. I got a feeling things might change soon.

Also adding onto this cause I’m bored and got a notification from this comment: the whole purpose on why Annie would still “kill” was because she wanted to go back to her father. She only wanted to go to her father, as that’s the only person who “cared” for her. Reiner forced her the RBA gang to still go on the mission, despite losing Marcel. Years later, even into the mission if they had returned empty handed, surely, they would’ve been fed to the next candidates.
Secondly, I don’t think Annie wanted to really kill anyone. All she wanted was Eren, and then to run back out, return home. In Titan form, she usually ignored people, however, when they’d attack her that’s when she would retaliate. I don’t believe Annie ever really liked killing people, Marco death proves that, saving Connie proved that, the fact that she looked down on the church people proved that.. and more stuff. During her last battle against Eren, you could easily argue that Eren was more reckless than Annie.

I always liked Gabi, her personality was great, i loved how she wasn’t the “sharing is caring” or “always kind” person, it really nice to see a character who was happy and joking around while still being serious sometimes, she even compliments herself which is pretty cool as well. I like how her personality is great, i also like the fact that she resembles young Eren. I don’t get the hate for her. Sasha didn’t even have any character development, and what did people actually love her for? Potato girl? That’s it? Gabi in my opinion had every right to kill Sasha, Sasha literally just came and shot two guys in from of her face nearly killing her. The only one I blame for the death of Sasha is Isayama, as for Gabi I simply find her as much annoying as I found Eren in the first seasons. So a lot. I understand that having their home, family and friends killed before their eyes by the very enemies they've always been taught to hate only makes their hatred grow exponentially, but that doesn't mean I completely accept their stubbornness.

Because NO ONE's gonna ditch their people like that, just because they found out their enemies are also humans. Man my opinion in this...Joffrey was a character to be hated....he had a background, we learned to hate him even more with time....Gabi is just poorly written. Falco is not in the same situation as Gabi, his uncle was a restorationist, suggesting that the Grice family weren't as brainwashed as the Braun's. Also, Falco was present at Eren and Reiner's conversation.
@@melancholygirl7793 You're right that it's not totally the same, that's why I only said "basically", but my point was, you can't really claim that ANYONE would've done the same thing given the exact same circumstances. People have different personalities. Nature plays a big part in our actions/reactions just as much as nurture.
Not saying she should be like Falco. Her character is a nice contrast to his and I think the writers really did that on purpose as kind of a fan service, making someone so detestable for audience to root against them so eventually killing off that character or turning them around completely would be such a moment in the show.
(Edit:Added) For the sake of the story, I prefer that between Gabbi and Falco, one should defect and the other should be steadfast in their original belief. I personally want Gabbi to take on the latter role and inherent a titan so she could give us a very satisfying all-out titan fight for the ages against any of our titan protagonists before ultimately losing everything in that fight. But even if the story goes on a different direction, I'd still take it because truly loving something, not just a show, means accepting all of it, even the parts you dont like.
Also, saying she did nothing wrong is a bit extreme in my opinion. It's like claiming there is ethically nothing wrong in killing (since a lot of other people like to think in real life context). I would argue though that she had every right and freedom to react/respond however she needed to process the hellish experience that she and everyone she cares about were put through. I completely understand why she did what she did but understanding doesn't necessarily mean agreeing or liking.
You're missing a lot of stuff here. Falco and Gabi have different personalities even from birth, she's more impulsive, hot-headed and emotional. He is more calm, quiet but also too trusting. Then you have their families - in the latter chapters of the manga you have a moment which perfectly describes it through the 2 different reactions of the Gabi's parents and Falco's parents. Basically the Brauns are more nationalistic, more brainwashed, more devoted to Marley and from there Gabi and Reiner are too. The Grices are more cautious, they have family history of being restorationists (Falco's uncle). You can see through Falco's conversation with Reiner in episode 2 of season 4 that in his eyes being a titan shifter is no good. While for Gabi becoming one is an honour. Let's also look at their goals - Falco became a warrior candidate specifically for Gabi, he wanted to save her from that faith. Gabi on the other hand wanted to free the eldians from the Interment zone and to prove that they're good people to the world, she is someone who is really determined and hard-working. You criticize that she has ego but she is literally the best warrior candidate and has best scores at everything - knowing history, knowing how to fight, having loyalty and so on and she is CONSTANTLY praised for it. I mean Colt called her "our Eldian godess" when he was drunk and then at dinner her parents told her that she would save Eldia. If people treated me like that I'd also have an ego. And lastly - Gabi was present at the attack on Liberio and saw her two best friends die in horrific ways FIRST HAND. She witnessed all the chaos and destruction from Eren, while Falco didn't. He was also present at Reiner's and Eren's talk where he heard first hand about their experiences and saw Reiner break down in front of him, while for Gabi, Reiner has always put kind of a mask. Add to that the fact that Falco blames himself for attack because he was the one who sent the letters (the anime kinda skipped this moment) so he feels responsible for everything and doesn't feel like he can get mad for something he has "done".

I'd rather it were stated with more accountability like, "I would've done the same thing."
I completely agree that Gabi having an ego was the result of people putting her on a pedestal, which she let go to her head. Not everyone treated that way ends up with the same bloated ego and it doesn't excuse them from having unchecked attitude. I mean, she was being so insubordinate at that moment. So I wouldn't invalidate anyone who dislikes or even hates her character and say she's got terrible attitude because she's the best so no one could fault her for that. Personally, I find characters (even real people) who shout a lot very annoying. And she was shouting a lot, also being defiant to her superior.

I quite like Gabi, but partially because I disagree with what you say in the 2nd half of this video. She DOES overcome her conditioning. She learns to see the people of Paradis as just normal people and by the time of the Rumbling would never want to kill everyone in the island. I think she turns around much faster than Reiner ever did, and likely wouldn’t have even participated in an invasion like he was going to. She changed.
Also, I disagree with the idea that her and Eren’s situations were equivalent at the beginning. There is nothing wrong with killing titans, it is always morally correct. At the start of the series, Eren’s worldview is completely justified, Paradis is being oppressed by titans. But before Eren attacks Liberio, the propaganda being pumped into Eldians in Marley about Paradis is completely false, and ultimately the “devils” only come for Marley because Marley killed 20% of their population 10 years ago and was planning to come back for more.
I think gabi being so great is an attack against losers who think an anime characters is the central plot thread she’s literally girl eren but somehow she’s the villain now

If her thinking was "extreme" there would have been no need for Eren to subject everyone to the rumbling.
The whole problem was that the outside world has this narrative that the people of Paradisia have the evil legacy of Thier Eldian Ancestors. Which actually would've been true if it wasn't for the memory manipulation done by Reiss family. But Gabi and everyone outside the walls wouldn't be able to know that, would they?
Falco doesn't have a scene because people like him are more likely to talk about Marley's immediate enemies on Thier borders. Gabi only gets a chance because she has scenes with Reiner at thier family dinner table.
Of course, If Falco was pro-Paradis, he wouldn't have felt guilty the second he found out that Eren wasn't a typical Eldian.
