We mostly use dewalt 23 gauge pin nailers, and sometimes we will use the 18 gauge brad nailer

Just found your channel & I am a solo Finish Contractor and do cabinets vanities, base, doors, door slabs, and install crown! However! I want to branch into coffered ceilings and 2 piece crown and kitchen crown!
I recently got my rear end handed to me on a kitchen crown 2 piece ! I never should hv taken it because the cabinets were up and I always install 2 piece kitchen the 1 st board 1st on the ground and the install cabinets!
The contractor was completely oblivious he had a 4 “ difference from one side to the other side of the cabinets and the ceiling was out about a 1/2” right over my long piece (1st 1x6). It was 2 piece to bring it to the ceiling yet 3 1/4” crown instead of larger crown! All stain grade with no extra stain?
Yes a mess!
I walked away after he and home owners complained! I told him next time call me before cabinets go up and then I can help! He was not happy however! I did not appreciate him and customers going over my work like I am a school boy! I said nothing and left telling him “keep the money I don’t want it”!
My fault never should hv taken it!

I just subscribed to your channel if I lived in your I would apply for a job with your company as an apprentice I’ve always believed the old school carpenter has always been the best today they’ve learned to do this type of work without all the tools and technology we have today that in some situations actually does the work but I agree you should have more views and subscribers but you should also do step by step videos like your crown molding video I believe your a great carpenter and so are your employees keep up the good work continue to push forward and keep putting out great content god bless you and your family

I agree your crown video is the best. Most other videos are not in depth and the people don't necessarily have the skills you have. I never do crown molding but I used the technique you showed in that video to get tight inside baseboard miters (shimming the back, holding with a prybar and nailing). I've got a 8-1/4 cheap miter saw with a bended fence (I must get 45 on one side and 44 on the other. Or the oposite. It doesn't matter much after all wall aren't 90). With your technique I don't need to get a heavier saw. Thanks for sharing your experience on youtube ! Maybe you could ask Spencer Lewis or that other guy from Dallas to send you a few viewers ;) As a favor between pros of the same trade.

Great work and great videos! When installing the 1x6's that lay flat on the ceiling, how are they anchored? Nail only or some type of adhesive as well? Also, for these boards that run parallel to the joists above, it would seem that some of these boards might not be hitting a joist above just due to the layout position, so how do you securely attach those to the ceiling if they don't hit a joist? Thank you!
How does the seams disappear to the 1 byes that face the floor ? Are they spackled ? How are they seamless very interesting on how this was done.
Eventually when I get enough subscribers I will start giving away all my secrets, we work very hard to make everything seamless

Hi thanks, yes we glue as we go (adhesive) not caulk, everything is glued, top, bottom, sides, we glue everything

What tools did you use and what size nails? And what air gun. You never put it in any of the descriptions or where we can find the Tools.
I have a textured drywall ceiling. Is there anything that would differ? What would you recommend?
Hi it depends on how thick the texture is, if the texture is heavy (thick) it would be difficult to attach the main nailer boards, and maybe causing those boards to not sit-flat on the ceiling, and once you get to the crown molding the texture would come into play again, maybe not letting the crown sit flat to the ceiling..
I’m from Michigan, and in Northern Michigan textured walls and ceilings are very common, so it’s not uncommon that people have it removed, I know it sounds like a huge job, but sometimes it just requires getting the texture wet and it easily scrapes off.. maybe there is a video on TH-cam on how to remove it ?
but if your texture is a low-profile type of texture, it shouldn’t be a issue to build your coffered ceilings on it..

Thank you, it depends on how big the ceiling is, but either way our customers alway think it’s worth it, simply put, you’re adding value to your house when you install a coffered ceiling

It seems like he inverted baseboard around the perimeter but didn’t carry it inside of the boxes. Seems strange. Why not carry through into all the boxes?
The base molding was installed throughout the ceiling, maybe look a little closer.

... 23 gauge pin nailer,.... DeWalt doesn't make a 23 gauge, otherwise we would use it., although the ryobi does a great job

the entire thing is glue. it’s so funny, every ~ single ~ inch ~ is ~ glued ~ and then ? ~ we glue it again

It’s all adhesive, we don’t attach to joist at all, every inch of the 1x6 is glued, there is no way they could ever move
