The admirals seem to be the "peak" of why somebody joins up in the marines. Kuzan joined up because he wanted to help people, Sakazuki wanted to kill as many pirates as possible, Issho accepted to change the marines from within, Aramaki is racist, and Kizaru joined for a career.

Oda has nailed Kizaru "unclear justice", i literaly have no idea if he will continue to be loyal to the goverment or not, both could happen (altrough he appears to be more on the goverment side).
Egghead also deals with work enviroment, especially of Japan where it is to harsh. Sentomaru was called in his day off. Egghead has a "fabrio-phrase". The admirals are servants of the Tenryuubito that they deslike. Kuma was literaly programed to obey but he apperantly is revolting. Vegapunk was the most valuable worker for the goverment, helping people across the world, but will get k1lled because he disagree with one topic. Workers and their relation with their Bosses is the main thing of this arc.

I guess this just means that Kizaru follows the formal justice of laws and institutions. It is not a moral, ethical or corrupted justice, but the justice of what the institutions (World Government and Navy) say what justice is. A justice that abstains from personal values.

His character has been a pleasant surprise, Monkey D Luffy vs the Yellow Monkey of course is not lost on us. The idea of Kizaru deeply envying pirates, particularly Luffy and his allies, really paints the story in a new light. He’s easygoing because he really doesn’t find joy in taking down pirates. As in, on some level he kinda would rather let them play out their fate because somewhere in him he thinks “man…must be nice”. And it’s been manageable because at least most pirates are scum. and at least the good ones (shanks, Whitebeard / ace) are less concerned with freedom and more concerned with family, protecting their loved ones, and keeping the peace. If you’re cool they’re cool.
But when you deal with someone who says screw peace, I’m running up in your backyard and freeing _everyone_ then it’s a new problem. You can no longer dodge this confrontation with freedom anymore, because this new pirate wants smoke and he’s bringing the theme of freedom right to your face. You’re not fighting evil pirates or handling some political situation, you’re being ordered to fight those who represent a deep desire you may have not appreciated. Obviously if Kizaru _really_ wanted Luffy dead, and hated him the way Akainu does, Luffy would not have seen the end of marineford. But Luffy’s alive and on some level Kizaru kinda wants to see what this liberator can actually do. If these people really can find freedom on the seas. Same way he doesn’t _want_ to kill vegapunk or sentomaru, he doesn’t actually _want_ to stop this liberator. He’ll give it a decent try if he’s ordered to. But now things are getting real, Vegapunk has gone too far, Luffy is too strong, and a decent try won’t cut it for his bosses anymore. It’s time to kill that buried desire for freedom, along with some of his loved ones. And with that we see indifference revealed to be depression.

There are some analyses comparing the Marine structure in One Piece to the rigid corporative hierarchy in Japan. This is a common theme in art and obviously in manga there. From this perspective, the admiral's would portray different points of view, or behaviours, in this system. Akainu is the person that fully accepts and complies with the rules, therefore climbing up to higher positions. Aokiji learned the problems in the system during his career and decided to rebel against it. Fujitora joined the system aware of its problems and planning to change it from inside. Aramaki seems to admire his bosses and wants to work for them. In the case of Kizaru, I used to think of him being the aceptive person that is only there because he needs a job and does what is asked without much commitment to any cause. However, what you said seems like a deeper interpretation. Now I think Kizaru is the person who dislikes how things work but bends to it, restricting his will with a superficial indiference and becoming depressed.

Kizaru has no real reason to want to climb/work towards the rank of admiral other than it just being the top rung for a marine on the corporate ladder. For me personally, at this point in the story, Kizaru's Justice represents following the letter of the law exactly as it is given out, which means accepting all the contradictions that come with that.
In this world, the marines enforce the law to maintain the World Government's rule over the land. They do this under the guise of "maintaining order." This need to appear like you're just doing what's right while actually serving your own goals will eventually lead to some contradictory orders. Such as slavery being abolished, but the Celestial Dragons can still own slaves.
Akainu understands the spirit of the law in this way, because he agrees with it completely. He believes that the hierarchy needs to exist to keep people in line. He wasn't ordered to kill innocents on Ohara, but understood it was in the spirit of the law to do so. It didn't matter if Ace was already dead, it was in the spirit of the law to kill all pirates there. His understanding is all-encompassing, absolute.
Aokiji struggled with the contradictions, and only did enough to keep the world in order, until the contradictions became too much and he had to quit. When he did work, it was just enough to keep the peace, what would look lazy from the outside.
Kizaru accepts the contradictions as they are. He may struggle with them, but that doesn't deter him. He just follows orders as they're given, and so that makes his justice Unclear - it's filled with every contradiction that the law brings.
He's essentially an Admiral continuously on a Work-to-Rule protest.

Kizaru came off as a troll at first, mainly because of his funny face. But when you mentioned in the revenge video that he kicked luffy three times I actually had to realize that he never really went for the kill on anyone, almost like aokiji. Bro even shot the key off of luffy instead of shooting at him. Although now that I think about he did kill zehir like a cold bastard.
This could be explained prior to he's a troll or he doesn't actually wanna do any work or even with him knowing dragon (which might be more realistic than ever now). But with the newest development it seems that it really changed into he doesn't wanna unnecessarily hurt people. Now I could even imagine a backstory of him trying to make the system better from the inside and realizing that even as admiral he can't do much.
I hope this fight is gonna turn out like the luffy and katakuri fight where they are gonna start liking each other as the fight progresses.

Akainu situation with Kuma is almost like he's talking about himself. When he refers to Kuma as a dog. I say this because usually how you perceive/think of others is how you think of yourself. Kuma still has a cause that is inherently worth fighting for. Akainu calls him a dog but thats essentially how he sees himself. Most of the greatest pirates in one piece have free will. While the marines follow strict protocol. Their service is understood but just because a pirate's motive isn't always transparent doesnt mean that they're malicious. Luffy is the perfect example. My boy is just misunderstood. Hes going after one thing. Pirates & marines are simply getting in the way lol.

I believe the reason Kizaru and certain other people might have moral dilemmas is because Luffy is a living prophecy. When some of these people chose their evil path they believed they had no other choice with how the world is. But Luffy is literally disputing the status quo by physically fighting the world superpows with a chance at beating them. Do they want to be on the wrong side of history?
And to add to that Kizaru might realize if the side he chose means killing people he cares about then Luffy's prophecy is even more preferred.

If he sense Kizaru's hesitation, our MC can decide then and there to help him, or tell Kizaru to do differently.
