Tristan, I am truly amazed at the orchestration your team has under your guidance, everyone has a job to do and they do it with little direction. This makes you a superb leader. I am sure your guests have all have a memorable cruise.
Well done Tristan glad that you are getting involved with the "Clear Ocean Pact" very proud of you all, forget the haters who will say that its hypocritical we all have a responsibility to do our bit no matter if your in the yachting community or not...excellent stuff
Captain, I applaud your efforts to reduce the use of single use plastics, your right they are everywhere. After viewing your vlog we are going to try and do the same for the RV community here in the states.
Weldon AWOL I am a retired oceanologyst and during my time exploring the oceans I have seen a prolific increase in plastic pollution in the world oceans. On the ships I used to work on the newer ships had a strict waist management in that all waist was collected and disposed of when we returned to shore. So keep up the good work Tristan.
I agree 100%, everyone no matter big or small should "STOP" using plastic. Thank you, Since I was a boy who grew up by the ocean, it is terrible what is happening to it. Nobody seem to care, I care & I see you care.
I have been extremely fortunate to travel to Bonifacio the last couple years, climbing those same steep steps, it was my highlight of Southern Corsica. A fort that has been controlled by many even the Nazi's, an ancient town beautiful scenery and a stunning natural port. It was fun and informative to see how you actually extract yourself from those slips. Congrats on your commitment to the sea. As a sailboat racer we often try and do the same for crew. Many regattas now give you a single plastic cup for beer and drinks. It has the particular Regatta logo, so we keep and appreciate them for many uses long after going home. I'm using one as I write. I'd suggest having uniquely colored bottles to be able to keep track of better, as well as the persons name (obviously) but also A W O L which would make it a special cherished reminder long into the future. Wonderful vlog Tristan, keep it up!
Nice to see how you are committed to a clean environment, that is why I'm more interested in sailing ships. But even on a motor yacht it is possible to add for the environment, not only the renouncing of single plastic also waste separation or cleanly maintained machines use. THANK YOU and keep on
just wana say how much i love seeing these vlogs,, learning so much every video and as a 16 year old who aspires to have a job like yours one day its a great asset to have informative, entertaining videos like these. - inspirational
Great video! I am so happy that you take part of Clear Ocean Pact. I am not an "activist" or anything myself, but I am a very conserned citizen of this world. It is incredible how little attention this get, knowing how bad the condition of our oceans are. There are plenty of videos showing big islands of garbage floting around and is quite sickening to be honest. 👍 for you!
WOW 🤩 I’ve stumbled upon this amazing young Captain’s Vlog and subscribed immediately! What an amazing guy sharing behind the scenes to educate and better the yachting community! Hats 🧢 off👍🏼🙌🏼 I’ve been serving milityacht Captains for over twenty years and having such a great documentary help to ensure I give even better services and support! Thanks again! Maybe I should do something similar from the yacht assistant side, also as you say for the yachting industry has been given a bad rep for too many years. 😉💪🏼 Thank you for putting yourself out there and being an inspiration to others!
Congratulations on the 100th Vlog Tristan! The quality of your content is amazing, this is the best Yachting channel on TH-cam, thank you for doing this.
Excellent video Captain. I find all of your videos to be of excellent quality and all are very interesting and informative. I love your Channel and I’m learning a lot about sailing and what it’s like to be a Captain on a Super Yacht. All the best to you...Ed
The only thing I miss is like one minute of cruising info ... I don't know, like radar, sound, chart, engine data images, perhaps the bow and waves, the horizon, etc.. Something like that. (If you can, because you are working ...) Thanks!
I loved watching you test the bridge wing controls and marine gear, release of the lines and maneuver out of the slip. I also agree with "infoaddict" down below
Really like your videos. I would recommend adding maps of your current location, your destination and maybe even the route you will take. Only like 5 seconds of each but it grounds you about where you are. A map tells a thousand words. Thanks
Congratulations on your 100 videos and 50K subscriber's , and yet another fantastic video from a professional . Cheers Tristan and thanks for the videos Ty
Talking about clear Oceans, i remember an incident when sailing on my father's yacht from many years ago. We needed fuel and went into a small port in Holland (will not mention any names) and took on fuel. We asked for the right fuel and they gave us the diesel (it was a small sailing yacht). On discovering the error (smell) they stopped fueling us and when asked how to get rid of the diesel they just pumped it overboard into the harbour. Mind you this was 40+ years ago but it shows how far we have come since those days but still not far enough.
Bonifacio is such an unique place, I have been there several times, and always got stuck for several days due to win at the end of august. No big deal because the town is a nice place and a couple of days on the land are fine sometimes

Congrats Captain on 56k subscribers and your 100th vlog!! I enjoyed 100 just as much as I did your first!! Keep up the great work!! Also...really enjoyed the '70's vintage porn music. Brings back memories. 😎
I really enjoy watching your channel and find it to be very informative. The ports and areas that you visit and take harbor in are so beautiful. Thanks for giving us an insight of what it's like being in and operating a super yacht. Congratulations on your 50k subscribers and your 100 vlog post. Keep up the the good work and continued success.
I just started watching so don't know if you have already shown a tour of the guess parts of the yacht, but I would love to see what the interior looks like. I came back after 3 videos later, found what I was asking for thank you.
Would love to see a video on security, what happens if you get boarded what's the plan, also internet security I would presume awol can be viewed by the captain or owner 24/7, do you carry weapons on board??
Been watching your channel for quite a while now and realised I hadn’t subscribed my apologies to you, this has been rectified. This goes to others that maybe watching that also haven’t clicked on subscribe. Fascinating behind the scenes of super yachts great channel and sorry 😐 CLEAR OCEAN 🌊 PACT 👍 No apologies needed
Hey Cap. great video as always... May I suggest mounting another camera portside while you handle the other one starboard side when docking/undocking so we can have a view from both sides (probably more editing will be required on your side, but you love us don't you, so you wouldn't mind I hope)... :) :) keep up the good work, All the best from Egypt... Cheers.
I was thinking that very same thing. It might be a bit costly though. Egypt? Wow! My parents have been many years ago. I wonder what a trip from the States to Egypt would cost and where the best places to visit would be without breaking the bank. Any suggestions on places I wouldn't want to miss besides the obvious? Thanks!
Great vlog as always. I would not worry about any criticisms on your support of the Clean Ocean Pact. You in the industry do more to try and limit your impact on the environment then some of these so called environmentalists do in their life time.
I eliminated plastic years ago, I have a 45' Beneteau and I do not use plastic water bottles, I also eliminated plastic "ziplock" bags and never use single plastic shopping bags. I instead use cardboard boxes or just put the stuff in my grocery trolly I keep onboard. People would not bitch about trying to help if they seen the state of the oceans around the world, or if they seen a green sea turtle dying due to a full stomach of plastic bags. Tristan, could you do a video of your radio when coming into a marina for dockage? From the calling ahead to see about availability for size, the calling for conditions and also the calls for location/slip number to dock at? I always find this interesting and find it different around the country how this interaction happens and think other might also find it something to watch. Thanks
I own a Palmer Johnson Vantage 150 .....I was never interested in sailing it myself because of the complexity and size. Your Vlog has encouraged me to take the controls once in a while. My captain is not happy with you ! Great videos !
For people who would complain about "hypocrisy": as crew on a boat or a ship you can't do anything about the fact that you're burning fuel but you can do something about the fact that you're using plastic. Every little thing helps because when enough people do their small part it'll eventually accumulate and have a big impact.
I'm an Aircraft Mechanic so I'm not to familiar with the boating world. Is there anyway in one of your port entry and mooring videos you could go over the laws or rules of coming into the congested areas? Once again your video was a blast to watch, you truly seem to love your job!
Heyy Congratulations On the 100th Vlog anddddddd 50K But an I say your cover/screen to each Vlog can Be a Bit cheesie In Captions?? looks Cheap >> But Cheers tc uk
I've always wondered when anchoring out in a situating with wind like that or maybe a little stronger, do you leave one of the main engines idling, in case of anchor drift, or what is the start up time if needed in a hurry? Great Vlog as always and Congrats on 100 episodes!
Great job on the Ocean conservation Capt. I'd love to have you do a follow up in a future vlog and report if any other superyachts or captains are joining the cause or if they choose not to! Love to see a professional Seaman doing or trying to do a small positive part in helping save our oceans as we are in a dire situation! Check out 4Ocean or check out YBS TH-cam young bloods. That was a great start to the video, showing a little of the surroundings had me thinking of my next trip and maybe heading that way! There is one of my bucket list airfields just north of Bonifacio, Propriano, and it would be nice to take a ride round there. Your pre departure checks are quite similar to a pre flight check, Full and free control check is virtually what you did with the rudder etc! I fly a small private plane and we do a lot of checks with pnumonics, eg: every fifteen minutes flying we do a FREDA< fuel, radio, engine, direction and altitude. Do you have similar checks etc? Your channel is very informative for people on the outside, it's nice to see some of the behind the scenes issues too. When flying across an international border we have to file a flight plan, is there a similar requirement on the sea? Safe passage to you all.
@@SuperYachtCaptain We are all waiting to see what happens with brexit and the easy system we have at the moment, for immigration and customs we have the GAR< this is an email service you send pertinent details to the Border force when returning to the UK. Then you can fly direct to anywhere in the UK, even a private strip! But to enter Schengen we have to use a Schengen airport, and the French particularly, have in the last few years removed many of them. So your options are limited now! Also the Channel Islands and Isle of Man come under the Common Travel Area, we still have to give Special Branch 12hrs notice of an intended flight from UK to these places! But if you want to go to Jersey etc, you can fly straight into Dinard or Caen, touch your wheels down and then straight over to Jersey!! Do you have the same restrictions travelling to the Channels Islands etc? Lets hope Brexit doesn't screw all these facilities up!
Any rough water videos? Owners should consider a NW charter season. Canadian waters are incredible! British Columbia and Washington San Juans are amazing.
you have controls for docking on each side .. what does it depend on which one you are using!? I believe you have the same controls on each side? Btw. thanks for that interesting VLOG 😊
Hello Tristan! Could you explain this „thing“ right above your line of sight on the bridges’ ceiling? Looks like an optical Instrument? Compass? Night Vision System...? Thank you!
Hi Tristan , another great video and insight to daily life . Very surprised you wouldn’t go out in 25knots of wind , I sail a sail boat of 45ft and that’s perfect for me . You have stabilisers etc etc . Trust me if I had stumped up the £100k for the charter I would have been kicking your arse to get out of port! I understand that safety must be your priority but under 30knts should be sailing . Can you update me as to why you decided to stay . Great channel keep up the good work , cheers D
Enjoy the videos. I have to say though that it seems that so many of your port visits with super yachts moored cheek by jowl appear to have all ambiance of a truck stop. No fault of yours but apparently there are very few actual places your vessel or its passengers can visit that are truly unique or off the beaten path.
They certainly could and some do, maybe more the explorer type yachts. The wealthy have always congregated to each other in the same enclaves. Part of that is because it helps build similarity, just as most people read best sellers and watch blockbusters so they can share their experience. It also helps that these ports are often close to each other to cut down on sailing. I might add that these boats need a lot of support and supplies. The chef can step off the boat and there are beautiful foreign and local groceries and high end wine and spirits right on the sea wall, or they can just have an order waiting to be delivered. As for the guests the town is full of unique and typical elite stores that cater to them as well. Plus it is a small beautiful ancient historic remote town on the tip of an island an hour from the heavily touristed Sardinia .
Great idea on the use of single use bottle for guests on board. Signing up for it! Quick technical question on your departure from Bonifacio, in order to leave the berth safely, did you have both engines ahead with a bit of port helm as well as the Bowthrust to Stbd to counteract the wind on your port beam until you were clear of the ground tackle?
First class that you and your crew fully support keeping our sea clean from all types of plastic.
Tristan, I am truly amazed at the orchestration your team has under your guidance, everyone has a job to do and they do it with little direction. This makes you a superb leader. I am sure your guests have all have a memorable cruise.

At least we should stop tossing plastic, and all other stuff overboard. Plastic in itself isn't that bad, as long as it's properly recycled.
You do realise that boat is plastic . GRP which is what awol is made of stands for glass reinforced plastic.

I tend to use the docking station closest to the dock.
That harbor in Corsica looks awesome. How are the restaurants?
Amazing restaurants. 👍👍
Bonifacio has great restaurants!!
Hello Tristan!
Could you explain this „thing“ right above your line of sight on the bridges’ ceiling?
Looks like an optical Instrument?
Compass? Night Vision System...?
Thank you!
It’s a magnetic compass 👍
Hi Tristan , another great video and insight to daily life . Very surprised you wouldn’t go out in 25knots of wind , I sail a sail boat of 45ft and that’s perfect for me . You have stabilisers etc etc . Trust me if I had stumped up the £100k for the charter I would have been kicking your arse to get out of port! I understand that safety must be your priority but under 30knts should be sailing . Can you update me as to why you decided to stay . Great channel keep up the good work , cheers D
Out of curiosity does your yacht have bilge water treatment systems?
Or is that something for bigger ships?
How much clearance for stabilizing wings when tied up that close?
what do you do when your stuck at sea, cabin fever...
Nice random content, fully enjoyed this one. Are those AWOL branded water bottles?
Thanks,
Yes the bottles are AWOL branded.
Interesting videos, but get yourself a "dead cat" to cancel wind noise when outside vlogging... Cheers!
He has already got a dead cat on the mike on the main camera.
Congrats on 100 vlogs, that’s a hell of a lot of editing. Is the starboard engine tacho dead on the starboard helm? Keep up the good work. Anders
