I’m from California and I’d never heard of Myrtle Beach until around 1990 when a buddy of mine told me about his time in the Air Force when he was stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in the 80s and how Myrtle Beach was a big resort town. And a military town. The base was closed in 1993 and is where the Myrtle Beach Airport is now.
I love that you do so many reviews on Myrtle Beach. This is our favorite vacation spot as there is so much to do. We spend a week here every year and never get bored. Looking forward to coming back at the end of August and relaxing by the beach again this year!
We go on vacation in MB every year - going week after next in fact! Broadway is always on our list of places to visit. I enjoyed your perspective very much! Your enthusiasm is wonderful!

The hotel rates are super cheap in the winter,they start going up a little in March.Most days in the winter it's usually sunny in the mid 50s to low 60s.Also check out the Market Common close to the airport,it's like and upscale shopping area with an old downtown feel.Pancake restaurants are extremely popular there.In the summer during peak tourist season,they have trolley buses running all through town until midnight.

Have you ever been to Virginia Beach Virginia? It's about the furthest north that you'll see palm trees growing year round.They have an awesome boardwalk.When I grew up in West Virginia,Myrtle and Virginia Beach were probably the 2 most popular beaches people went to but Myrtle Beach has a more Florida feel to it.

I live down here in North Myrtle Beach near Cherry Grove. If your going to vacation down to Myrtle Beach make sure you rent a hotel on the NORTH side of Myrtle and not SOUTH Myrtle. South Myrtle hotels have more of the prostitutes, drugs and etc. Other than that you will enjoy your trip. Also don't forget to check out Barefoot Landing its a smaller version of Broadway on the beach. If you like gambling they also have the Big M Casino which is a cruise ship that takes you out in the ocean, it's about a 6hr trip.

Closer to the skywheel and on the north side of it is better. Saying that the hotels might might cost a little more. I actually went and visited some friends about a week ago around 7th Ave S and it was actually a decent place. Just like with anything you get what you pay for.

I recommend going to broadway on the beach because they have a cool aquarium and live shows and good food and mirror mazes and etc.

Just came back from Myrtle Beach. I will never go again. We went to the beach downtown and there were homeless on the grass passed out from drugs.
Yes, downtown and south of downtown has problems. There are many places further from the center that are more family friendly
