I saw Sonny for the first time in the early 90's, shortly after the Outward Bound album was released. It was a relatively small club and I was just totally mesmerized by his guitar through the whole show. I'm not a guitar player, but the combination of slide, picking, tapping was unlike anything I had ever heard before. 30 years later that is still a show that I'll never forget, and still one of the best I've ever seen. Sonny is just an incredible player!
Was fortunate to have our County bring Sonny in for an intimate concert in an outdoor tiny amphitheater in my hometown park (the Del in Haddon Hts, NJ) a few years ago. First concert I ever attended with my oldest son. Was a great turnout and a fantastic performance!
I just can’t say enough good things about this musician’s talent. Since the first time I saw him on Clapton’s Crossroads Concert (can’t remember the year) , I’ve been a regular listener.
We don't measure good blues by if it is revolutionary or how re-invented it is, but by seeing it done at such a developed style of expression. This guy is GOOD!
You have to wonder why Sonny never became a big name like Clapton or others. He certainly is a fine technician and "musician's" musician. The problem is twofold. Bass and Drums to be exact. The bass player is lame. The drummer uninspiring. They simply are not listening to what he plays and comp him accordingly. NO ENERGY.If they did, this would be a super group of epic proportions. Sonny ... fire these guys today.

It's because the masses don't care about guitar players anymore, unfortunately.
