I have the Dewalt DWX 726. I received it yesterday. I was able to open it up, but not close it. After some frustrating attempts I found this video. I tried the “Jim technique” and it worked for me. Thanks!
I wish I would have found this video before this past weekend. Got the new stand for my birthday and pulled my new F150 out, assembled the stand, placed the saw centered and it would not go down. Worked for hours trying. Gave up for the night and left my new truck in the driveway. Sunday I was almost at the point of throwing it in the truck and returning it when my wife came out to help. She said remove the saw. She noticed the right locking dog ear was not dis-engaging the same as the left. With the adjuster all the way out we decided to do exactly what your video shows creating a longer throw for the bicycle cable. Unlocked and went right down. She was kind enough to simply turn and walk back in the house without saying a word.
Right out of the box, assembly was easy. And the stand opened to working height with no problem. But it would not go back down. I tried the Jim Method too, and at first it didn't work. Then I thought, what the heck, I'll spray lubricant in every possible nook and cranny of that mechanism. Voila! It finally worked, but still not as smoothly as one would wish or have expected. Don't know whether either of my steps would've worked without the other. It's a shame Dewalt doesn't rectify the design to eliminate the problem so many people have. And if their experience is like mine, it takes them quite a number of frustrating hours of trying to figure out what's wrong and looking for an answer. Thanks to everyone!
After about 2 1/2 hours of trying to close this stand- I gave up for the day. I came across this video on TH-cam- switched up the cables and it lowered on the first try!!! Thank you for posting this video!!!
Thanks to Jim & Saw Dust Dude!!!! There was one aspect of this that you left out, and I was really hoping to see, and that was The Jim Method actually working.
Thanks so much for the video! Switching the cables position on lever by using Jim’s method helped me finally be able to pull the release plate and lower the the cart. Had just bought dang thing & was getting frustrated…
I am a believer of the Jim Method! I was on the verge of taking this back to HD or calling DeWalt after only owning this for ONLY two months. Thank you Jim and and The Sawdust Dude! You have awesome content!
11/17/2023- Followed your instructions sent by Jim. The DWX-726 will now close for me. No cable adjustments, just swapped the locations as you and Jim prescribed. Perhaps the people who originally assembled these at Dewalt did it backwards. Thanks to Jim, you and TH-cam.
I tried all of the suggestions online and eventually followed Jim's solution to swap the slots into which the two cables feed at the latch. The top slot and top screw on the latch extend father back when you push the latch to open. This was a simple fix with a Phillips screw driver and small open face wrench. This fixed my problem - thx :)
Thanks for all of the advice. I tried it all with no luck. I had to take the right locking pin out and reduce the spring by two links and put it back together. Now it will slide up and down. Thanks for the help.
My DeWalt DWX726 opened after setup then would not close. Thanks to your video, I tried Jim's Method. It worked!!!!! I had to remove release lever to get everything hooked back up but that was minor. Thanks again to you and Jim's method. I still am waiting on DeWalt to get back to me.
Glad in worked for you. Someone told me that DeWalt was promoting these videos, please let me know if that is that case 😁. Thanks for watching and please Subscribe 🍀🍺
Here’s an even quicker fix. I removed the large spring at the bottom and used a crescent wrench (it’s flat jaws help not to mess up tab) to bend the tab up at a greater angle. Works great.
Good one! My new out of the box won't fold up. The two pawls don't get picked up soon enough to release the inner bar. I was wondering how I was going to remove the slop out of mine, now I know!
I have a porter cable stand, which is identical to the dewalt, it wouldn’t close, I adjusted the cable to the release, and now it works great. Thanks 😊
Hey saw dust dude. I like your videos that led me to buy a new dewalt dwx726. I thought I had a problem as it would not lower. I worked on the thing for a couple of hours with no luck. So my wife took a look at it and push down while I released it and down it went. 😂 LOL
I'm subscribed to to your channel. There's a lot of guys that show you how to put it together, but not a lot that will show you how to adjust cables. Thank for shearing your knowledge so even an 80 year old guy can learn a thing or two.
I'm on my second stand and I just told myself straight to the trash and just purchased a rigid stand , I'm so sick of DeWalt and their shitty tools , true story .......when I first started my business I bought and used Ryobi (light green models) and as time went on I decided better tools would be best , so I bought DeWalt .......every DeWalt tool has broken and I still have all my Ryobi tools ........that says a lot. Probably due to me getting them from Home Depot and we all know DeWalt made their tools cheaper to sell at these types of stores.......obviously I'm not a satisfied customer ........on a good note found your channel so all is not lost , thanks for the content....

Got my DWX726 rolling saw stand, assembled same and son of a diddly, it won't fold up. Poked around found I wasn't the only one Found this and used the cable reassignment method and it worked. Makes me wonder if this isn't a manufacturing problem. Anyway, the thing works now. There was no way I was going to box that thing up and return it, the box came via UPS, and looked like it was shot out of a canon into the forest and hit every tree! Regardless, this was helpful.
I’ll tell you what….thank GOD for Jim. Daggon brand new $300 stand that I had to assemble would not close no matter what I tried. Until I tried the Jim method…..like butter now.
why does the jim method work? is it because when you switch the cables, the pull on the black cable is then a little longer and pulls the tabs out of the slots just enough more for them to clear?
I have been binge watching your content, great stuff. I’m trying to build my own channel and it looks like you work alone a lot like I do. My question is how do you film alone? Are you using a selfie stick? Thanks Sawdust Dude.
