The writers gave Ross the most awkward situations because they knew David could make it work.

Well to be fair it is New York City so they think if you live in an apartment like that you must have that kind of money and yes honestly I make $1,000 a week at my three jobs combined so I have that kind of money but still $100 to chip in for a party that's just ridiculous

Now that you pointed it out, Rachel actually predicts that Monica and Chandler will get married. Because this is an entire season before Chandler/Monica proposes.
@@Pepper9873 well anyone could see it coming. Chandler declared he loved Monica and he was serious about her, and Monica answered in kind so unless something bad happened like cheating they'd eventually end up married.
This happened to me too. I had joined a company as a software engineer, and one of the guys in the project I was allocated to was leaving in 2 days, he was serving his notice period, I barely knew that guy and the ones responsible for organizing his farewell party asked me to contribute 500 Rs. I hadn't even received my salary, to my good fortune a few seniors intervened as they felt it was unfair on my part to pay for a person I didn't even know.

I think the whole point of this episode was to make Ross relatable for us. Most of us have often been in situations where we had a very genuine reason for not going through with something, but we were unreasonably punished for it. I do agree that the writers on this show have often been a bit too harsh with Ross, but then who doesn't feel that way about their lives, right? So while we do things that are logical and appropriate, does not necessarily mean that the outcome we get would be too🤷♀️

He really was the real comedian in the group. Chandler just tells funny jokes, don't (can't) act. Joey, well, he might be the same stupid in real life. This kind of character is extremely grotesque and from the 40's comedies. Phoebe is a bad actress and bad casting. Either one of Rachel's sisters would have made a much better Phoebe. Monica, well, she's pretty. Rachel acts the same for 10 years, no improvement. But she has nice body and she is cunning enough to get a celebrity husband which opened the golden gates of a "bright" movie career to her. Poor David Schwimmer.

When my parents moved in to their new apartment, this happened to them. A neighbor rang their doorbell and asked them for money to another neighbor who was moving out!!!! As a farewell gift for the moving neighbour. My dad explained that they had recently moved in and didn't know any neighbor and wouldn't give any money even if they knew the neighbor!!! I wouldn't either. I don't know who lives in my building and I don't know who moves out or in, people come and go all the time.
Ross was so logical most of the time and people don't understand that.

The fact that ross is considered as "bad character" and phoebe almost the most lovable just shows how something is really wrong with this world. Phoebe was bitchy to everyone,especially ross and chandler and mondler also. Ross got her her first bike, made a list about reasons she may be mad at him etc. But no,everyone loooves phoebe because she is in her own world and does her "thing", and fact that she treats her friends like crap means nothing. Ross is good friend and his thinking of this situation is pretty logical. Also, David Schwimmer did a great job presenting him.

Phoebe wasn't "bitchy" to everyone. When she initially found out Mondler was a couple she was happy for them and supportive of their relationship. Even in this episode she had good intentions of helping Ross make good friends with his neighbors but Phoebe's a little ditzy sometimes so her plan didn't exactly go well. It was also Phoebe who convinced Ross to fight for Rachel in the end plus drove him to the airport to get her back. She's always got Joey back and is in his corner. Chandler is the one she picks with the most sometimes but only because she secretly wishes she had chosen to date him I think but it's not like Chandler doesn't make fun of Phoebe also for her ditzy and flaky ways sometimes. 🤷
