I had joined a company as a software engineer, and one of the guys in the project I was allocated to was leaving in 2 days, he was serving his notice period, I barely knew that guy and the ones responsible for organizing his farewell party asked me to contribute 500 Rs. I hadn't even received my salary, to my good fortune a few seniors intervened as they felt it was unfair on my part to pay for a person I didn't even know.
I think the whole point of this episode was to make Ross relatable for us. Most of us have often been in situations where we had a very genuine reason for not going through with something, but we were unreasonably punished for it. I do agree that the writers on this show have often been a bit too harsh with Ross, but then who doesn't feel that way about their lives, right? So while we do things that are logical and appropriate, does not necessarily mean that the outcome we get would be too🤷♀️
Well to be fair it is New York City so they think if you live in an apartment like that you must have that kind of money and yes honestly I make $1,000 a week at my three jobs combined so I have that kind of money but still $100 to chip in for a party that's just ridiculous

When my parents moved in to their new apartment, this happened to them. A neighbor rang their doorbell and asked them for money to another neighbor who was moving out!!!! As a farewell gift for the moving neighbour. My dad explained that they had recently moved in and didn't know any neighbor and wouldn't give any money even if they knew the neighbor!!! I wouldn't either. I don't know who lives in my building and I don't know who moves out or in, people come and go all the time.
My parents the same thing. Back in the late 90s, my parents are jewish and some guy came up to my parents house and practically demanded my parents set up Christmas lights as part of a neighbourhood tradition and to sheel out $75 for a Christmas party he was supposedly hosting at his house. Well he got mad when my parents told him they don’t celebrate Christmas and he called them all sort of derogative names until my dad dragged the guy out of the house. It turned out the guy was a swindler.
