This actually looks like a pretty great design. Those anti-rotation set screws (borrowed from G$) are very nice. Top mounted hardware is allegedly much better for your barrel and general rigidity (per BCM) , so it feels like the best of both worlds.
Liking the looks of these new handguards. Looks like Aero took some notes from Geissele and just put the mounting screws on top of the barrel nut versus the bottom. I dig it! Thanks for the install video Caleb.
Pro tip: only buy aero from third parties like Brownells etc. Never buy from their website. They hold your money and send your product out months later. You'll have a hard time cancelling it. The only time they'll contact you is if they made some egregious mistake like offering a nice barrel/handguard combo for $90 like they did a few months ago and the purpose of their contact is to see if you'll accept different cheaper parts. I like aero parts but their customer service is absolute trash.
@@keelanhumiston5759 I looked on the aero Reddit page and it’s full of people talking about waiting for orders and people waiting for order confirmations
Thanks for making this video. I was excited for this handguard until I saw the grub screw anti-rotation method. Terrible idea. They should have just made friction fit tabs, that way you have no chance of the screws rattling loose or becoming stripped because you accidentally over tighten the tiny 1/16" hex head.
This is EXACTLY what people want out of an AR-15 handguard in 2024. This is what i wanted form their previous handguard line but was disappointed, these will give BCM and GA competition.
Enlightened rail / scalloped rail. Many manufacturers do it for weight savings. The rail height is still to spec and sits flush on the upper outside edges of the pic rail.
@@catlantis7216 yeah I know it is, must have been the camera or my bad eyes, just seemed off to me. I would not expect Aero to make a product like that.
@@janssenmoen953 na i see it too but it's just the design of the upper, its a fat notch on the end of the Pic rail so the hand gaurd is aligned with the bottom of the Pic groove.
I was wondering the same thing and found it on Brownells website. It's called "The Device Manufacturing LLC AR15/M16 Upper Reciever Fixture". They are expensive! $300
Thank you so much. My MOD 4 shipped with no literature or QR code for installation. Just had to figure it out since Aero’s CS has yet to respond to my inquiry.
Fellas clamp a scope mount on top with half on receiver and half on handguard. Then install whatever handguard you have. Put a dab of blue loctite on all your screws.
I like the design, but it is not clear how the hand guard rail stays aligned with the Upper Receiver rails. Their should be an alignment piece to align the Upper Receiver rails to the hand guard rails. Sorry. The geek is coming out of me again, and you can't spell Geek without EE.
@@waldo5661 I currently do that. It just looks like it can rotate in either direction until the wings on the side with set screws hit the upper receiver. I could be wrong.
So: they simply inverted the attachment/tensioning screws…😂 Man, we are really crawling forward now, eh? I will now be “inventing” something new aka moving 1 part around and slapping my name on it.
@Bitter_Blueberry What part number/name? I've got a version of every one they sell on their site currently and I don't see it. Is it possible you have a version they don't sell anymore?
So an upside down Geissele style mounted handguard for $15-$25 less...forgive me if I don't see the appeal. I had issues with rails moving my LAM zero after being knocked around in the woods and during courses. Solution: HK 416. Turns out when you have a massive tab and slot connecting the handguard to the upper rail movement isn't really an issue lol.

That’s what I’m thinking. Depending on the price may be I’ll grab one of these instead of the expensive G$

BCM, not geissele. Nobody has ever taken notes from Geissele except on branding/marketing

I've ordered directly from their website five times and never had an issue, haven't had to talk to their customer service so I cannot speak to that

I believe you. 👍
Great looking handguard
Many Torque wrench manufacturers say not to use the torque wrench to loosen.
I've been eyeing those handguards for a while now. Probably end up getting one to replace a cheaper mlok rail from a previous assembly
I love that Aero is typically trying to improve on the AR desighn.
They need to improve their shipping times and customer service first.

What brand is the upper receiver and why is it your favorite?
Is it just me or is the top of the hand guard rail a 1/4” lower than the upper receiver rail?
Enlightened rail / scalloped rail. Many manufacturers do it for weight savings. The rail height is still to spec and sits flush on the upper outside edges of the pic rail.
He’s talking about how the picatinny, they make it this way so you have a continuous top rail if you want to bridge the upper and the hand guard.

So sick of seeing every single comment section flooded with bca/psa guys crying about moderetly priced parts.
😆
what is the upper receiver fixture? What brand and model is it?

Wish the tiny alignment allen screw were at least 30% bigger than it is.
The 1913 top rail almost looks like it steps down. Maybe it's just camera angle?
there are cuts in the middle of each of the teeth.
What upper receiver block are you using?
its literally called "the device" you mentions it everytime he uses it
What's the MSRP on that rail?
Not seeing those new kak kspec uppers getting any love y’all should make another video on them!!!
How tight are M5 Aero upper barrel fits?
tighter than your mother

Really enjoyed this video.
What is that finish? Cerakote?
It’s just anodized aluminum. I think Aero calls this shade Kodiak Brown.
Fellas clamp a scope mount on top with half on receiver and half on handguard. Then install whatever handguard you have. Put a dab of blue loctite on all your screws.
why?
It squares the handguard to the receiver instead of just eyeballing it. And it keeps it from moving while your installing it.
I dont ever throw away screws that come with a part. Ever. Even if i get multiples. They strip eventually
Never sieze is so much more fun!
Reminds me of the Midwest Industries barrel nut setup.
All they did is switch it to the top 😂
@@AJohnSmith thats all they had to do to dance around the copyright?
This looks like it will hurt the resale value of my upper receiver if I mar the finish with those set screws.
Upside down Geissele
I was saying this in my head the exact second I saw your comment wtf

Everyone send your old handguards this way, if you're not connected from the top you're going to flop. This is the only one that will hold zero.

Grease has no business on a barrel extension. The opposite… green Loctite, would be the right choice
Absolutely not!
very rigid system. can recommend if in your budget needs 👍🏽
Better than BCM because of FED Cerakote option. Better than Midwest Industry because the top clamping design.
