I'm Amelia, the singer for City of Tears. Hollow Knight came out 7 years ago, so I'm feeling a bit nostalgic myself, and I can't say how much it means to read all your comments. Whenever I feel like I'm not on the right path and things get hard, I read through these comments and smile that I've had the privilege of sharing my voice with you.
I can certainly say that City of Tears was the turning point for me. The point i got fully sucked in and awestruck. Going down that elevator and have the music elevate and put vocals. It made me stand still and listen. Thank you for your work.
I’ll be honest, you have the most beautiful singing voice I’ve ever heard. I feel like you could easily perform on stage if you wanted to, your voice is *that* good.
Entering the City of Tears and being struck with such hauntingly beautiful vocals is a feeling I will never forget, It was truly incredible. This is probably the best track on the OST in my opinion. Thank you.
I love how this song builds when you enter the City of Tears for the first time. It was past midnight and I'd been playing the game for a few hours, wanting desperately to get into the City of Tears before going to sleep. Descending from the Fungal Wastes, seeing hints of the city through the windows, watching the rainfall, meeting Quirrel on one of the benches, and the music finally builds and comes to a head as you reach the ground level and head for the statue of the Hollow Knight. Fantastic moment, I'll never forget it. Edit: I was surprised to see this has reached 1k likes after only 6 months or so, so I'll add a little bit - I was honestly really interested every time an NPC would mention the City of Tears, or when I'd see signposts for the location. That's how I realised "Huh, this seems to be a pretty important location" and it's why I wanted to get down there as soon as possible.
Wow my experience was pretty much the same first playthrough except I did like no research about the map or anything, such a beautiful and peaceful place to stumble upon
I saw fireborn speedrun before playing this but i didn't watch it fully just skipping over playbar i saw these huge windows and major part of the game was being done near these windows ,it fascinated me what they hold,so it was great suspense to discover it ,amd when i finally reached a window I thought is this it the main area of the game, but the game delivered me another hit in the heart with the statute of hollow knight and the Music, once in a lifetime gaming experience

@Cynthia Ender that's great, I wish i could remember old friends in such a way, most my old friends became bad people, bit the sounds of rain, is just what peace sounds like
I like this song, very much incapsulates the City of Tears, sounding very lively and harmonious. Even Marissa singing in the background supports the song's emotional capture, but however, the city itself is abandoned with the corpses of past residents and soldiers roaming the many houses and streets, even Marissa is but a dream ghost. And at the end 2:45, it comes back to reality of how you are running through an abandoned, use to be spiraling, metropolis. Edit: if you couldn't tell, *I fuckin love this game*
The choir, the piano, the pacing. This one simple piece encapsulates the entire essence of Hollow Knight up until this point. And it's a piece of music Hollow Knight fans and non Hollow Knight fans can both enjoy
I kinda feel you on that. Obviously, it makes me feel nostalgic, but I also get this overwhelming feeling I initially had when first entering the city. Probably the closest I'll ever get to experiencing a game for the time again.
It is almost like a sadder, less repetitive version of the feeling you get from listening to Travelers from Outer Wilds. (Both songs are absolutely fantastic)
In the Bellagio in Vegas, they played this (Summer 2023). I had to stop and take it in because I didn’t expect a Vegas hotel to play music from Hollow Knight
I think the monument to the Hollow Knight is one of the best bits of environmental storytelling in this game. You've just been through three separate areas of desolation, ruin, and empty husks. Then you arrive and find the statue of the Knight. You see "Hallownest lasts eternal". And you know it didn't. You feel the hope that this people had in their sacrifice. And you've been killing their husks for hours of gameplay. It honestly didn't hit me right away, but once I learned more about Hallownest's past, that statue got so much sadder.

I just got to City of Tears today, and I have fallen in love with this song. Experiencing Hollow Knight for the first time, went in pretty blind. Only knew the first area roughly, basic abilities, simple understanding of character designs, and a refusal to look up any tips until I beat the game once through. The City of Tears was not what I was expecting, but damn is it a good area. Everything but those damned Soul Twisters was really fun to fight against, and the music is so good.
I remember the first time I entered the City of Tears and heard this soundtrack. It was like a memory core in my being that I'd never forget. As profound as the time I first pissed and shit my pants.
Remember that first time you stepped out of the elevator, and felt the cold droplets of rain dampen your face, as a harp played somewhere off in the distance? It was all new, and yet, had a unique sence of nestolgia and wonder. Silk Song will come out eventually. When it does, make the most out of it. We all know how great of a game Hollow Knight was, and still *is* and I think we all know how great Silk Song will be. Stay patient friends, it's just around the corner...
Damn, it's been 6 years already. I can't fully express how I felt the first time I reached this area, the music, the rain... it was magical. And now I miss that part of my life as well. So much has changed.
because of how i felt when playing through the game the first time, the signature pieces like these make me feel so unbelievely calm, in between happy and sad. the absolute radiance theme however puts me on edge whenever i hear it thanks to hours of grinding any radiance
I was feeling very depressed at night and I shuffled my playlist of 310 videos and out of all of them this was the one that played first I am crying rn
I remember buying this game just after the covid 19 quarantine began back in 2020. While locked up I was so depressed, I didn't wanted to study or have my online lessons, I just felt so sad and empty. But playing this game, it really made feel something by its gameplay, art, and obviously the music. I remember that time of my life as a sad and depressing one, but when this exact theme kicks in, it reminds me to the only good moments I had through that difficult era of my life. I'm so in love with this game, it made me feel at least a little bit happy when I thought I could only be sad :')

This area single-handedly solidified Hollow Knight as my favorite game ever. It’s beautiful
The beautiful voices and piano and violin instrumentals is what made me really fall in love with the game and the whole development ❤ it's truly a masterpiece to behold... My soul is crying but not because its sad, it's enraptured by the haunting beauty of lonely songs 🖤
I wondered why this disappeared from my download
I just got to City of Tears today, and I have fallen in love with this song. The city is so dreary, yet it's beautiful at the same time, and if you judge the music based off the scenery alone, this song tells a sad story, but if you listen to the song without looking at the City of Tears, its very relaxing and peaceful.
When I saw your pfp, I was immediately filled with despair
Just started replaying it again, tears were shed when we reached here
i just got to this level on stream. as soon as the music started, i fell in love with this game even more
Just played this and started raining outside like crazy. I could even hear it with my headphones
If you've missed the Hollow Knight OST playlist, here they are back:

Thank youu
I can hear songstress marissa singing to a crowd in city of tears 😭
Stay patient friends, it's just around the corner...
magical
Damn, it's been 6 years already. I can't fully express how I felt the first time I reached this area, the music, the rain... it was magical. And now I miss that part of my life as well. So much has changed.
because of how i felt when playing through the game the first time, the signature pieces like these make me feel so unbelievely calm, in between happy and sad. the absolute radiance theme however puts me on edge whenever i hear it thanks to hours of grinding any radiance
I was feeling very depressed at night and I shuffled my playlist of 310 videos and out of all of them this was the one that played first I am crying rn
Hope you are feeling okay mate
Hollow knight has a place in my heart man
I love how the music changes depending on which part of the city you're in
why do i always cry when i hear this
Honestly when I heared the vocals... It hit me. Like im not too sure BUT it sounds like in metro last light and it couldn't be better
Recently, i've collected all Hollow Knight trophies in PS4, and coming back here to listen this master piece again is... beautiful.
Before begin able to try this game I used to listen over and over this theme, mesmerized by it's beuty,
Just as I was able to reach the city, welp, my heart melted is sadness, I did not expected such ruined place, yet magnific
This melody.. inspires me... It's as if I see a person in a gray raincoat wandering under the heavy rain, a boy of about 13 years old, a shadow on his face, his skin is white, and caps are sewn on the back of the hood. And he wanders through the streets of this city studying its beauty...
This place seems to have been created for my character.
My favorite non-boss track easily. Something about the haunting beauty of this tune combines so well with the desolate city and constant rainfall. 😊
New song to get to my bed and totally fell asleep after a day of school TvT How peaceful :3
I just found this place and my god this is the city of tears wtf. The whole soundtrack until now was ok that's pretty cool but this one my god.
September 2022. Took about 10 days to finish the game, i will never forget how hooked i was on the game during that time, staying up very late.
Bought this in February 2021 but i only reached Crystal Peak Greenpath and Forgotten crossroads before giving up
You should continue, it's worth it
Keep playing, the rest of the game will for sure grab your attention
read the first part
Had to do something out in the rain today, and this song just kept playing in my head on repeat despite having not played Hollow Knight in like 2 years
This Song Makes Me Tear Up For How Peaceful And Subtle It Is
Amigo este tema me enamoro del juego es simplemente sublime junto con la lluvia y ambientación es simplemente un sueño
I love that this is (somewhat) right after deepnest the most stressful dark part of the game up to that point. It so releasing when you first sit on that bench
