London Fire Brigade reveals strangest 999 calls

The London Fire Brigade has revealed its strangest 999 calls bid to cut down on the number of trivial or obviously non-emergency calls. One man called the fire service to ask for helping retrieving his shoe from the roof of a Tesco store, to which the operator asked him to contact Tesco. Other bizarre requests include a woman asking for help getting a squirrel out of her wardrobe and another woman whose toilet is 'making a strange noise'. A panicked woman rang when a bat flew into her kitchen as she was worried about rabies and one caller wanted help changing a tyre, claiming it would be the Brigade's fault if he had an accident. These are just one of the hundred's of non-emergency calls the London Fire Brigade have received in the past year. Report by Sarah Kerr.
