The first in my Overhyped series. I wanted to show how I’ve been trialing this product (with my usual pre-styler), but have also included how I used it just by following the instructions. Leave me your Overhyped (?) product suggestions. As always, I’m excited to try new product releases and see how they work for me.
We're actually in the process of changing the hold description from high to medium. Unfortunately the batch came out a bit weaker then our sample, (actually high hold) did before mass production. The current version still work way better on my hair then yours though apparently. We're working on getting it up to where we want it, at which point you best expect another jar of hybrid in your hands! :P
Sounds good. I look forward to it! Until then, get that website updated and fire your quality control officer. 😉 Hope married life is treating you well.
first off, good to see an unbiased review from Robin, and very impressed with how fast Joe was quick to respond. disappointed in blumaan's product from Robin's point of view. Secondly, congrats on getting married Joe
Just to be clear: This product was tested for weeks before filming the review. I have owned it since July. I mostly used it as I would normally - with a pre-styler. I tried various quantities of product. A couple of scoops, loads of scoops, heavy scoops, etc. The insert of me using it without a pre-styler and waiting 15 minutes was to show you what happens when you follow the instructions to the word. This was not my first time using it. Think of it as a reconstruction. This is a visual mechanism I use in my videos. I fully appreciate that a lot of you guys got that, but for some it has been a ‘lost in translation’ moment and the usual, “you didn’t use enough.” I will make it more clear next time.
Lawson Life this would work even worse on thinner hair. If anything this product works better on thick hair despite what the branding claims, which results from lack of knowledge from developers especially as BluMaan has thick hair, so he wouldn't know how it actually works on thin hair. They claim it is intended for thinner hair types becwuse it's less rough on it, even if it doesn't work at all.
Love this as a series! 👌🏻 It was nice to see someone with fine hair actually test this out too, since it was supposed to be formulated for that type - yet almost all the other reviews I've seen are thick-haired guys like myself 😂
I'm so confused, I know this was months ago but on 7/7, Joe released a vid on his channel with a quick insert about Cavalier (it wasn't officially released back then) and he said that product's for normal to thick haired people...?
Robin, your videos are such gems! Had to put you on my channel's favourite list! Hope my viewers love your content as much as I do. :) Keep them coming..
ppl saying that Robin hates blumaan when really he doesn't lol. Cavalier and Meraki both did well in their respective brand battles and he reviewed 5th Sample very positively. I couldn't think of a single line where every single product is amazing for me or my hair type. It's not the brand or the person behind it, it's literally just the product lol
Same here dude. I tried Steadfast Pomade, the original, and it did EXACTLY what I wanted, but made my hair fall out.. Different things work on different people..
Such great praise. Thank you so much. I appreciate the support. When I do videos like this, I do have to think twice. I'm sure the hate will come in later.
Robin, huge thanks for this video! This product was on my wish list since it is designed for fine hair. All of the reviews I had seen before were from people that like the product, but they all have thick hair. You were the exact person I was waiting on to review Hybrid Cream Clay.
What's a good product to give short-medium length fine hair some texture and lift but maintaining a matte finish? I tried the cream clay and as well was not too satisfied. I completely agree with this opinion, very good and unbiased.
Finally!! I was waiting for a review like this. I went over TH-camrs and all they have are compliments about how great this stuff is, but I could not buy it. I was waiting for your review all those times. Thank you, Robin
I have thin hair and I agree with everything u said. Sadly had a very poor hold and was defiantly overhyped. Really cool series I can’t wait for more 😁
My dude, love your videos. I've got fine hair too so finally someone I can relate to on here. 2 things: 1. Love your real honesty in the videos, you come off as very trustworthy with these things. 2. Moustache is amazing, don't let it go!
I totally agree with you on this one. I do like the other Blumaan hair products, but this one just doesn't provide any hold at all in my fine hair. And a hair clay without hold is simply useless...
This is exactly the kind of reviews I like to see. Straight up and to the point, looking beyond any hype. I mean I love a great review as much as the next brewer, but when it comes to my products I'd rather have an honest review than a biased or hyped review. I want people to have a clear expectation of what they will get when they use a Third & Co product. Keep up the great work man. And that stache is looking killer now!
Robin, just saying, without discussing the product, but the way your hair looked after the full day test, dropped down, was kind of awesome :P You totally rock that half fringe kind of thingy!
One of my most favorite channel for honest, unbiased men's hair product review. Keep up this series! Mike from Modernmantv should follow your way of reviewing, because all of his review on his channel is really biased because he almost never say bad thing about the products that he reviews
Robin James I see he works very hard in the men's hair product world and I don't hate him at all but I just see many his review is almost just talking all the positive side of the hair products unlike you who genuinely praise a good product and mention the bad one. Also I'd like to suggest by villain products and ocean clay which is new product from Dre Dexler
Hey Robin I know this goes off in a tangent but I was wondering if you continue to use Nioxin. And if you've stopped using it, does your hair go back to fine?
What are the differences between the Arcadian clay and the hybrid? Because I saw your review of the Arcadian one, and you said you like it. Considering the ingredients are pretty much the same?
I know this is a tiny tiny part of the whole video @ 1:00 . As a girl with short hair who uses hair products similar to these to style my hair, it's very nice to feel included for once! thanks a lot Robin 😊
I love the products I used in the chat bit of this video: Aveda Thickening Tonic and Lockhart's Matte Clay. A mousse pre-styler will also give you the volume.
The only person you need to follow for tips, styles and products for thin or fine hair and their reviews is Mr. Robin James. No one else can give you the correct information than him. Cheers Robin.!
I think we have the same hair type. What would be a good product for a more texturized look, but still good hold? My hair is cut like cole sprouse. I use hdf quicksand right now.
How do you want good hold if you dont even apply the product throughout your hair. Its not going to hold if the product isnt in the roots of your hair. You’re just applying it on top
I have try it when I had 7 inches hair it didn’t work to well but since I cut it to about 5 inches it has a good hold maybe it just works with shorter hair maybe 🤷🏻♂️
Hellow robin i whant to now something i have almost the same hairstyle just like you and i love to use glays what is a good glay to use for that hairstyle ? Greetz Jeroen
I liked the fish soho Cream but then realised it had parabens a in it. What’s your take on them ? I see there is some mixed opinions on parabens online
Hi Robin, thank you for the review, could you please let me know which is product brand that you use on a daily base for your fine hair? Regards from Mexico!
Hey Robin, can you review high rise product, collaborations between James and Eric? Or is it impossible because of it limited edition and cannot get a jar of it? It seem has very few reviews on this product.
I will agree that the product shouldn’t be listed as a high hold as much as it should, but I did find it to work well with my hair. The best way with my very fine, slightly wavy hair is to pre style with a moose to give the hair plenty of volume and still feel lightweight, and then apply this as a finisher. When you first apply this product it gives off a higher shine and after about 15 min that’s when it starts to look more matte. At that point it is when I spray a very light amount of hairspray to give a-little more hold in the morning. The end result, for me at least is a more natural looking volume and look, which is very popular in high school and college these days. All around fits my finer hair well. It’s good to see another persons experience though.
I have fine hair, and I agree with pretty much everything you said in the video. Honestly the hold isn't great, I've found I had to use a good amount of product to achieve an acceptable amount of hold. That's with me not even having my usual longer hair length. I'd say this product is probably meant for a deconstructed hairstyle that bus meant to look messy or natural. I love that look normally, but this product just does not deliver in terms of volume. At the end of the day no volume no life. Love the finish of the product though. Big fan of your videos, it's really great to see someone who reviews things for people with fine hair. Thick hair TH-camrs always seem to forget about us haha.
The first in my Overhyped series.
I wanted to show how I’ve been trialing this product (with my usual pre-styler), but have also included how I used it just by following the instructions.
Leave me your Overhyped (?) product suggestions.
As always, I’m excited to try new product releases and see how they work for me.
Robin James . Can YOU make a review about pacinos matte sin brasillo and Pacinos pomade ?
Would you be reviewing the Pacinos pomade? :)
Shevoo Ocean Claty, pretty new and a decent amount of hype around it, so i would like to see your opinion about it
Robin James could you try the hair Clay from Johnnys chop Shop?
Robin James I think ur going bald
We're actually in the process of changing the hold description from high to medium. Unfortunately the batch came out a bit weaker then our sample, (actually high hold) did before mass production. The current version still work way better on my hair then yours though apparently. Hope married life is treating you well.
Fuck off Joe with your rip off clay
first off, good to see an unbiased review from Robin, and very impressed with how fast Joe was quick to respond. disappointed in blumaan's product from Robin's point of view. Secondly, congrats on getting married Joe
good to see an unbiased review from Robin and a professional response from Joe.
I understand that quality issues happen but surely some people should be entitled to a refund if it's not as advertised?
This channel is the best for unbiased reviews on these popular TH-cam products! Well done again Robin!
I always appreciate your support.
Agreed, thank you so much
EveryMan Are you the creator of Mr. pompadour products? Your logos look very similar
You are just an idiot. I hate you soo much
Just to be clear:
This product was tested for weeks before filming the review. I have owned it since July.
I mostly used it as I would normally - with a pre-styler. I tried various quantities of product. A couple of scoops, loads of scoops, heavy scoops, etc.

I fully appreciate that a lot of you guys got that, but for some it has been a ‘lost in translation’ moment and the usual, “you didn’t use enough.”
I will make it more clear next time.
I think your hair is too thick
Lawson Life this would work even worse on thinner hair. If anything this product works better on thick hair despite what the branding claims, which results from lack of knowledge from developers especially as BluMaan has thick hair, so he wouldn't know how it actually works on thin hair. They claim it is intended for thinner hair types becwuse it's less rough on it, even if it doesn't work at all.
No it’s for thin hair you obviously don’t know anything about hair I’m actually a good blumaan fan
Blumaan has thick hair and wanted a product on thin hair and u do know h3 has freainds with thin hair
Love this as a series! 👌🏻 It was nice to see someone with fine hair actually test this out too, since it was supposed to be formulated for that type - yet almost all the other reviews I've seen are thick-haired guys like myself 😂
Cheers Matt. Appreciate you coming in.

Robin, your videos are such gems!
Had to put you on my channel's favourite list!
Hope my viewers love your content as much as I do. :)
Keep them coming..
Ah, thanks Mayank. You're a goodie.
Mayank man huge fan
Robin James Love from India 🇮🇳 james
Hi Robin, with all the products out on the market, and being featured on TH-cam, this new series is exactly what I am looking for. Great idea!
This is what I like to hear.
ppl saying that Robin hates blumaan when really he doesn't lol. Cavalier and Meraki both did well in their respective brand battles and he reviewed 5th Sample very positively. I couldn't think of a single line where every single product is amazing for me or my hair type. It's not the brand or the person behind it, it's literally just the product lol
Thank you.
Robin James anytime Robin! Big fan, keep doing your thing 😁
Same here dude. I tried Steadfast Pomade, the original, and it did EXACTLY what I wanted, but made my hair fall out.. Different things work on different people..
One of the very few style TH-camrs that gives honest and unbiased reviews, great content as always Robin
Cheers Nathan.
So good to see you back with a new series.
I thought it was about time.
Robin James Was waiting for it since the day after previous series ended. BTW Are you gonna do tiege hanley?
It was in the little montage. Want to see it?
Robin James yessssssss pleaseeeee
Best Men's channel in terms of quality and originality. Never clicked so fast lol
Such great praise. Thank you so much. I appreciate the support. When I do videos like this, I do have to think twice. I'm sure the hate will come in later.
Never clicked so fast.
Super fast!
Same, well.... with an exception to porn of course.
I really like how your unbiased review. Thats why now you are my no 1 youtuber list for hairstyle channel
Robin, huge thanks for this video! This product was on my wish list since it is designed for fine hair. All of the reviews I had seen before were from people that like the product, but they all have thick hair. You were the exact person I was waiting on to review Hybrid Cream Clay.
I really love your detailed analysis and your honesty.
Thanks Felipe.
What's a good product to give short-medium length fine hair some texture and lift but maintaining a matte finish? I tried the cream clay and as well was not too satisfied. I completely agree with this opinion, very good and unbiased.
Daimon Barber clay? Lockhart's clay. Also good.
Finally!! I was waiting for a review like this. I went over TH-camrs and all they have are compliments about how great this stuff is, but I could not buy it. I was waiting for your review all those times. Thank you, Robin
YES!! Such a bloody brilliant idea for a video series. Looking forward to more!
Thanks so much.
excited for the new series.. appreciate your honesty like always..
Thanks Abhishek. And I appreciate you coming back each new video.
I have thin hair and I agree with everything u said. Sadly had a very poor hold and was defiantly overhyped. Really cool series I can’t wait for more 😁
Thanks Jacob. I'm excited for this one.
I love the honesty on these reviews
My hair is pretty thick and I like the hold a clay provides. Should I use the cavalier clay instead?
Congratulations Robin for 200k subscribers ❤
Thx Robbin! I appreciate you mentioning the other products at the end!
would u consider buying the O'Douds Matte Paste to review?
Absolutely!
thank you
Can't wait to see the rest of this series !!
Should be good!
My dude, love your videos. I've got fine hair too so finally someone I can relate to on here. 2 things:
1. Love your real honesty in the videos, you come off as very trustworthy with these things.
2. Moustache is amazing, don't let it go!
Love how real you are robin, keep being yourself and keep up the great work👍🏻😁
Thank you.
I totally agree with you on this one. I do like the other Blumaan hair products, but this one just doesn't provide any hold at all in my fine hair. And a hair clay without hold is simply useless...
It just wasn't great for me, at all.
This is exactly the kind of reviews I like to see. Straight up and to the point, looking beyond any hype. I mean I love a great review as much as the next brewer, but when it comes to my products I'd rather have an honest review than a biased or hyped review. Robin, just saying, without discussing the product, but the way your hair looked after the full day test, dropped down, was kind of awesome :P You totally rock that half fringe kind of thingy!
Love your own original series! They always bring a new fresh touch to the TH-cam style branch!
It has a delayed hold? I really hope BluMaan make a similar one for thick hair.
If it works, then yes!
I'm not sure if its overhyped but is Mr Pompadour any good?
Looks like i know what to expect if i ever decide to try Hybrid Cream out. I have super fine hair & little of it too. Great review Robin.
Cheers.
so hyped for this series robin
Nice one Robin I'm looking forward to this series
Thank you.
One of my most favorite channel for honest, unbiased men's hair product review. Keep up this series! Mike from Modernmantv should follow your way of reviewing, because all of his review on his channel is really biased because he almost never say bad thing about the products that he reviews
Hey Gavin! Thank you. I love Mike though. I think he goes really in depth into product reviews. Also, his production style is solid!
Hey! I still use it and I love it.
This is a great idea Robin! Can't wait to see more.
Thanks so much.
Thanks for the review, will try Arcadian, looking for a new clay
Awesome vid man! Can't wait to see this channel glide past 200000 thousand
Thank you. Slow and steady!
What are the differences between the Arcadian clay and the hybrid? Because I saw your review of the Arcadian one, and you said you like it. Considering the ingredients are pretty much the same?
Robin did you ever try ASYLUM KLAYHEAD? Not made any more it was my fave clay do you know any similar it was a creamy clay with a good hold
No, I've not. Where did you get it?
Love your review 😊.all of your video I used as a guideline before purchasing the product 😊
I know this is a tiny tiny part of the whole video @ 1:00 . As a girl with short hair who uses hair products similar to these to style my hair, it's very nice to feel included for once! thanks a lot Robin 😊
Here fro you.
So as of now, what's your best styling product for voluminous matte finish style? (like yours i guess lol)
I love the products I used in the chat bit of this video: Aveda Thickening Tonic and Lockhart's Matte Clay.
A mousse pre-styler will also give you the volume.
I like Blumaan. But you and I have the same hair so I choose you over them any day of the week. Will definitely be watching your channel more
The only person you need to follow for tips, styles and products for thin or fine hair and their reviews is Mr. Robin James. No one else can give you the correct information than him. Cheers Robin.!
You're too kind. Sure there are some other guys out there!
Not like you, I've got a significant difference in my hair from the time I've started following you.
I think we have the same hair type. What would be a good product for a more texturized look, but still good hold? My hair is cut like cole sprouse. I use hdf quicksand right now.
Have you tried sea salt spray or texturising powder?
Robin, i have slightly wavy and thick hair
I go for a casual quiff
Have been using the Pete and Pedro putty
Any recommendations ?
Hey, I haven't, but I can look. I'd get a mousse into your hair!
Robin James i see
My hair has actually got quite a lot of natural volume and stays up without any product sometime
Thanks for responding
Literally the best men’s channel on youtube. Thanks Robin for being unbiased!!
Thanks Adrian .
How do you want good hold if you dont even apply the product throughout your hair. Its not going to hold if the product isnt in the roots of your hair. You’re just applying it on top
I think I will love this new series
There should be more than a thumbs up button on YT. Loving this idea of a series!
Cheers! Appreciate it.
Robin giving Blumaan a well deserved beatdown. Love the honesty as per usual!
Oh, no! Just the product.
I personally tried it when it was first released and I completely agree what you have to say about it
Your reviews are great. They really give me a good understanding of what the product is.
Thanks Caleb.
Love your reviews robin keep up good work... enjoy your videos
By Vilain dynamite clay and/or silver fox ?
Could be good!
Cavalier clay, claymation, quicksand or this? I have roughly the same hair type as you.
the stache is really dapper
Thank you very much.
Did you get the updated version? Was it any better?
Was literally about to buy this when your notification popped up... very much changed my mind! Thanks Robin!
Notifications are the way forward!
I have try it when I had 7 inches hair it didn’t work to well but since I cut it to about 5 inches it has a good hold maybe it just works with shorter hair maybe 🤷🏻♂️
Nice Robin another great video keep up the good work
Once again robin doing fantastic on these reviews honesty and all great job robin
Robin what clay would you recommend for fine hair like yours. I’m looking to buy a clay but I don’t know what brand I should go for. Thanks
You always get new ideas and they are amazing You are awesome man
Thanks very much, Shraiy.
so.. I part my hair from left to right, is it possible to part it right to left and make it look good?
Hellow robin i whant to now something i have almost the same hairstyle just like you and i love to use glays what is a good glay to use for that hairstyle ?
Greetz Jeroen
Thanks for the honest review! Love your videos.
What would you say is the best clay for fine hair?
Hey, I love any of the ones I put in the comparison/price part of this video.
Great video Robin and great Series !!and seriously how do u get such creative ideas ???!!!!
Thanks Jerry! Appreciate the support.
Awesome review as always man, love from Sydney xx
Thanks Patrick.
Awesome series. Would love to see more.
Thank you
I have the same hair type as you; what would product would you recommend for strong hold but not shiny?
I liked the fish soho Cream but then realised it had parabens a in it. What’s your take on them ? I see there is some mixed opinions on parabens online
Well a lot of products have parabens. If you're concerned, I would say not to sue them.
Can u make a video on how to get curly/wavy hair on straight hair?
I think there are a few out there. Maybe in future.
i've got thin hairs too thanks for saving my bucks....which hair products are your fav. for thin hairs pls can you tell
I use hybrid on my short, fine hair and it's amazing. Honestly the best product I've used
what's your view on matrix matte definer beach clay hair styler
The jacket behind you is so awesome
Thank you for a honest review. Most youtubers just hype each others products. Was about to order this product, but will try something else.
You might like it. I just didn't.
My hair is very similar to yours, so would like to test a clay/cream hybrid, but it must have better hold than this product.
Hey Robin, great video and series idea!
How would you compare the hold and styling capability of this product vs the Arcadian Clay Pomade?
Arcadian is easier to style with and has a slightly better hold. Not massively.
Great new series mate 👌🏻
Cheers Claum.
What do you use on your mustache to curl the handlebar
Hey robin what is the highest holding clay I tried so far?
Hi Robin, thank you for the review, could you please let me know which is product brand that you use on a daily base for your fine hair? Regards from Mexico!
Nice video really wanted see this review for a long time
Thanks Marco
Hey Robin, can you review high rise product, collaborations between James and Eric? Or is it impossible because of it limited edition and cannot get a jar of it? It seem has very few reviews on this product.
Hey Razin, I haven't heard of it, but will look out for it.
Robin James, thanks Robin! Will look forward to it.
Great video Robin. I have thick, wavy hair and it works perfect on my hair. After your vid, I'm not sure it's for fine hair.
Didn't like the moustache before but now it looks very good 👍
Always takes time. Nothing starts off as it ends!
Great review, as always! Love the honesty!
What product would you recommend for fine thin hair? I'm always having trouble styling my hair.
Where is the Video about the Reuzel lineup ?
I will agree that the product shouldn’t be listed as a high hold as much as it should, but I did find it to work well with my hair. The best way with my very fine, slightly wavy hair is to pre style with a moose to give the hair plenty of volume and still feel lightweight, and then apply this as a finisher. When you first apply this product it gives off a higher shine and after about 15 min that’s when it starts to look more matte. The end result, for me at least is a more natural looking volume and look, which is very popular in high school and college these days. All around fits my finer hair well. It’s good to see another persons experience though.
Great to hear yours too.
I feel the hold is better with damp hair instead of dry hair.
Great video Robin !!!
Thanks Rakib.
I have fine hair, and I agree with pretty much everything you said in the video. Honestly the hold isn't great, I've found I had to use a good amount of product to achieve an acceptable amount of hold. That's with me not even having my usual longer hair length. Thick hair TH-camrs always seem to forget about us haha.
Thanks Mando. Here for you.
