I have been homeless before but as an American citizen, if I was homeless and competing with them for limited resources I would be very angry at the government.
The city doesn't distinguish between immigration status in giving shelter because immigration is a federal issue, not state or local. It is not the responsibility of local governments to determine people's immigration status and enforce immigration laws.

As they are flying out, think of all those millions wasted on people who gave nothing back to the system and now are leaving for other parts of the country to drain other cities dry. So, I have been homeless for over 18 months in Boston. I (was) in a shelter. I just got my apartment YESTERDAY. I have alot to add to this!
Boston shelters offer one way tickets out of town happily! Theyve also been taking IN groups of homeless ILLEGAL migrants. Those migrants are mostly from Haiti but a bunch also from Africa. They are shipped in to Boston in groups of 50 from TEXAS. Our city gets very LARGE payments for taking care of them! They are abusive to the elderly in there! They are GROSS, MEAN, AND DONT WORK! Yes they get quick housing too. Very sickening 😢

Struggled my whole life and specifically the last 11 years of building a small business in NYC. I’m a legal immigrant from Europe, went through an immigration system that took years and cost $1000s not to mention the emotional investment to “play by the rules”.
Put most of my entire life savings into a down payment in Clinton Hill Brooklyn 6 months ago and now it’s been turned into a 3rd world country with people living under the BQE at the end of my street.
The system is so beyond broken I don’t even know what to say. Not fair to us not fair to them, and politicians at local, state and federal level are to blame.
If this continues we will see a break down of societal rules, laws and moral imperatives at a rate I shudder to even begin to imagine.

I was in the NYC shelter system in 2011-2013 and they offered everyone a plane ticket to anywhere else. Not new.

The protocol for asylum seekers involves appearing before an immigration judge in the country where asylum is sought. This is just sickening. It took several years for my siblings and I to legally immigrate to US. The petitioners (our father and stepmother) had to prove they had the means to support us. We also had to prove we were not diseased and got immunized and vaxxed before arriving. This was in the late 80s.

The law says that anyone presenting themselves at the border has a right to an asylum hearing. Congress needs to change the immigration laws but that would require compromise and that's not going to happen.

I don't understand why the US Citizens are homeless without anything including our veterans, families, someone's Parents, Aunts, Uncles, Brothers, Sister's, etc... Interview with a young Guatemalan woman a couple of weeks ago in NYC. She and her 3young kids placed in a shelter for 3months. After 2 days she left, saying she didn't like the area, this wasn't what she came for, and was demanding to be moved to somewhere more suitable to her. When asked what she'll do if refused, she simply haughtily shrugged her shoulders and stated, well I'll just have to go back home and they,they, the US will have to pay. This people, is the sheer scale of entitlement that our weak leaders are encouraging all over the world imo. 😠🤷🇬🇧

When I went to my local housing office in 2019, a Middle Eastern group of people (5 men, 1 woman plus a baby) were talking to the lady behind the desk. When the lady said the waiting list for housing was 12 years, the older woman holding the baby said, "12 years?! [She held up the baby] We need housing NOW!". I laughed on the inside. She thought that bringing a baby would bump her up the list and get her immediate housing. I remember when I heard the list was 10 years long, back in 2017. That's when my friend's mom tried to get housing with one of her daughters and her daughter's baby. In 2024, I should go back to see what the waiting list looks like.
As a non-american could someone explain why people who entered the country illegally are being accommodated. This is happening while US embassies are denying visas to working class people interested in vacationing in the US.

As a veteran, I suggest you really let go of this stereotype. There are MANY support resources for us veterans in the USA, the issue is that some veterans choose to not use the resources or they struggle with mental health issues. If they refuse the help, nothing can be done.

Being poor is not enough of a reason to demand another country to let you in and take care of you for the rest of your life. Almost every country has poor. I have walked the streets of NYC on many winter days when the temp dropped to the 20s, teens, and even single digits and watched homeless people shiver and freeze. My heart ached because all I could do was buy them a coffee but I wanted to house every single last one of them...just to find out now that the Roosevelt Hotel was always an option and warming buses could've been used to help keep them comfortable and at least alive...💔

Where was all of the tent cities for the people who have lived here? Those people are struggling on the streets and in the train stations and they are being asked to sleep under bridges until the police come and kick them out from there as well.

While millions enter the US ilegally, crossing the open border, I have been waiting in line for almost 14 years now for my Green Card petition which my American sister applied in my behalf back in 2009 to be approved. I live in Brazil, and I visit the US pretty much every year on a tourist visa. It never ocurred to me to overstay my Visa. I am a graduate in I.T. and I would love to live in the US, legally though. This is so outrageous and unfair. And since Biden took over, the line I'm waiting in stopped moving basically.Its like only illegal immigrants are priority. No legal immigrants anymore.
It happened under Obama too. My 7-9 month process turned into 22 months. He was a good president, except for the immigration policies.
