Very refreshing interview with many useful insights. Humility and constant learning are hallmarks of a true investor. Broad intellectual horizons help identify important trends and sniff out value.

Just sat in my favourite chair and watched that video again, with a coffee. All the way through, I was wracking my brain desperately saying “you know, I’m sure I have seen that name somewhere before ”. Got up, above my head in the book case, an academic text book on Strategic Management written with a guy called David Hussey!
Mind you, I’m sure you don’t need a book to make decisions, about investing, or people. It’s about careful, common sense.
Ups, I forgot to mention that he has written a few books too :-) I'll leave it for the next interview:-)

Sven - Thoroughly enjoyed the interview... Very different video format yet super insightful and educational. Would love to see more of this if you get more opportunities like this. I expect to see you sitting next to Dalio someday. :)
Love the Doctor's callout of investing in small-medium sized companies. Way too many people assume money can only be made in the big caps because that's where moats live, but that's simply not true. It's more difficult to find quality small-mid cap moaty stocks worth investing in, but once you find them they can be true gems.
Also love the idea of buying companies and not shares. That's exactly how I look at it. Too many focus on the stock and ignore the business behind the ticket symbol.
It's apparent there was a lot of mutual respect between the two of you. What a great opportunity to potentially work with Dr. Per Jenster and his partner. Good luck on that! I look forward to seeing how all this plays out.
BTW... It's a true shame U.S. investors aren't able to invest in Dr. Per Jenster's fund.

First of all great new type of video Sven (interview type AND the graphic of the topics on the bottom of the screen).
I'm readying few books that are dealing with strategy too. In particular the concept of the "Scuttlebutt" contained in "Common Stock and uncommon profits" by Fisher is basically the core of this interview.
VERY interesting the part on niches. Please follow up if you can with cases.

Some thoughts:
A little confused howthe contact between Sven and Per Jenster was formed (don't really understand who contacted who and why).
I really like what mr Jenster had to say about bankers but if I'm honest and check the nichemasters fund website there is a single page where you have to email a guy for access to the site so that one can invest in a fund that is located in the Cayman islands?
Niche is only for professional investor, thus you need to request access, there is no way around that:-( As for the Cayman Islands - just a jurisdiction like another .

So afrer 40 years of investing, has this professor beaten the market indexes in real returns after fees? Let's take the fluff out of it.
Oh yes! What you and other index fund people miss is the mindset that allows you to find the real value investments. One of those and you don't need index funds ever in your life:-)
if we are missing on that, show proof that any of you active managers beat the stock market after fees. Show us his audited returns for the 40 years he s been in the industry to compare it with market indexes of similar risk. Here is a challenge.
A challenge is to do that in the future over and over again! Have fun Hadi!
