    Eyeshadow will always be my favorite. It's never going to be dead, it's a staple. Like blush, foundation bronzer, and powder. Everything just goes through phases. Give it 3 years and highlighter Will be back.

      Yes, I kind of miss the days when there were more singles, or duos available. I buy palettes, but often just for a couple shades. It’s very wasteful. I am thinking of looking into the Dior singles. Expensive, but then so much doesn’t go to waste.

      This is my thought, too. And then, younger people just starting to get into makeup, and would potentially be building their collection, are into a different, more minimalist aesthetic and less consumerist mindset. Eyeshadow palettes will be popular again, but the trend cycle needs a few years for eyeshadow palettes to come back.

    Maybe not the death of eye shadow in general, but the death of the eye shadow PALETTE 🤔 I think the consumer market is getting super fatigued by the same old palette color stories and especially ones we've been over-exposed to for the past 10-12 years. I'm admittedly still using shadow pans I pried out of my original Naked palette from 2012, but I can see a shift toward a more minimalist approach to consumerism with multi-use products or single shadows people intend to use as heavy duty work horses.

    • @handsoaphandsoap
      @handsoaphandsoap หลายเดือนก่อน +29

      I also think people just own what palettes they need. If you’re a makeup consumer, odds are you have at least over 10 palettes in your collection and one person doesn’t really need much more than that so most people aren’t running out to buy the new palette launch when they already have something similar at home. A palette kind of has to adhere to the makeup consumer that is just getting into makeup in order to be a success right now I feel.

      Smaller palettes with better, flowing colours that will give you at least 4 different and good looks, if I can't get that out of a palette, I don't buy it. Looking at the pretty new palettes by Natasha Denona, the colours are variations of the same base, so even if you do 4 looks, they're all pretty much lighter/darker versions of the same look..... if she doesn't change her style, her brand will fizz out. IMO..

    • @Emma-se5wm
      @Emma-se5wm หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@lynettefinnigan9540 I've never gotten a natasha denona 15 pan palette partially because there are always at least 2 shades that will look the same on my eye. I feel like even her more colorful palettes need better tone and depth variety. Not counting the older ones that have been discontinued, like tropic, those had a lot of variety. Even the dang retro palette needed 3 shades swapped out because there were just 3 pairs of shades that looked identical when I swatched it.

    • @sherryelle225
      @sherryelle225 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@Emma-se5wmMakeup companies don’t know that we have figured out that similar colors that are in a palette together, are going to look the same. That’s why they separate them in the palette. Greedy corporations think that regular people will pay these inflated prices no matter what and they may be in for a shock. They are going to have to do better if they want to charge exorbitant prices.

    I only have singles, but I have about 300. Some of them I've had for 8 or 9 years. I made a goal of using all my shadows at least once this year to see if I still loved each of them. It's been so fun to make palettes each month and keep track of my usage. Shadows I thought I loved sometimes just didn’t perform the same anymore, and others I always avoided have been shocking me with how much I love them.
    I do keep the rest of my makeup pretty simple, including not wearing mascara alot.

    I really think "eyeshadow is dead" just means that the super bold, the thick cut crease with paint, the blending five different mattes and then adding a hard chunk of foiled shadow and a highlighted browbone is dead. The type of eyeshadow where you have to wear a full glam to balance it out. That very much IS dead. but last night i went to a bar and eyeshadow itself was definitely represented. It's just that the base look has changed and the eyeshadow is proportionate.

    I hate the games Sephora will play with the sale section. The Rose Inc. products that were sold out in April, still there. Danessa Myricks powder, marked down from $25 to $24. Ancient UD palettes that even TJMaxx has stopped selling, at prices that indicate Sephora already got rid of the stock and they’re just listing it at a deep discount to make you think you could get a deal if only you shopped the sale section a little more. Tired of being treated like a rube by Sephora. They’re a huge company and not our friends, but they could at least respect their customers instead of so obviously treating everyone with this much disdain.

    Basically what happened is the beauty influencer exploded, and as a result the makeup market exploded. Keeping up meant buying all the new releases, evrything that went viral, and then in order to be "different" we had to start relying on indie brands to give us colour stories and formulas we hadn't seen before. The market for makeup of every type just got exponentially bigger over the past couple of decades and in all honesty, I think we're hitting a bit of a saturation point.
    Firstly, the cost of living has increased all over the world, forcing many consumers to be more judicious about what non-necessities they want to spend money on.
    Secondly, there is a growing movement, particularly among younger people as they deal with the consequences of climate change, for sustainability. People are becoming turned off by the constant push for mass consumerism - it's unsustainable on both a personal and planetary level.

    I work at Sephora and literally the only people ever asking for palettes, other than Makeup by Mario and Patrick Ta, are tourists from other countries. Everyone who wants these older palettes has them. Even my coworkers, who are makeup lovers, don't wear eyeshadow if they are under 30. Sephora mainly only carries neutrals at this point. Pat McGrath, and the once a year Danessa Lighworks, is about as colorful as it gets now the Melt is leaving. And for our clients, the two mentioned above are by far the top sellers. No one ever asks for Natasha Denona anymore, at least not the palettes. Complexion and cheek products are the most in-demand. Next up would be lip products, and what type of lip product depends on the age of the client. The older they are, the more pigmented. Naked Metal Mania came out last Christmas. $14.75 is worth it for the silver alone if you want a good metallic silver. If you like metallics, this was a nice palette. Lol at the Wicked Palette. At my day job (not Sephora), there's a lady that had to have that palette. She's 82. I'm with you on the collector vs using my makeup. I stop myself all the time and ask myself if I'm just collecting or do I really want the item before I buy. And if it's collecting, I allow myself to collect only some things. I had to rein in my desire to collect everything. (I'm going along commenting as you go). The Yucca palette is a gorgeous yellow based palette. If you like that color scheme, jump on that. GXVE Beauty IS a slept-on brand. They need to do something to generate some hype or they're going to die with great products. Matte liquid lipsticks are exactly what people really want but they resist. These older women that want long lasting pigmented colors are very reluctant to try liquid lipsticks. And with the Natasha Denona palettes, honestly, going to Ulta was their death. Once they were more widely available, they lost their allure.

      Wow thanks for all you posted. I live in San Jose, CA area and Sephora has really gone downhill. Products stolen, no stock and dirty and it is all (our)the consumers fault. I think all stock should be in POS vending machines. Then the sample area can be in the back of the store and watched over more carefully. Also makeup applications(building sales) can happen without having to have one eye on the client and one on the thief. Said by someone with 40 years of retail sales.
