    Bible illiteracy is such a HUGE problem, both in and out of the Church.
    One of the biggest errors I see people make when reading/studying the Bible is looking at it through the lens one 21st century America.
    People everywhere need to understand that diligent attentiveness is a must when reading any ancient document. So when we read those "tough" books the Deuteronomy or Lamentations we have to ask ourselves certain questions like: "Who is the writer talking to?", "Am I putting this in it's proper context?" or "What does the rest of the Bible say about how I'm interpreting this?".
    Having been an atheist for most of my life I have seen so many people use and abuse passages to justify their lifestyle/agenda. Honestly, the person who keeps the skeptic up at night thinking is the one who cleared up their misconceptions by removing their cultural lens through a proper understanding of the Bible.
    You did a great job Becca, Bible literacy is something sorely needed in the church today.
    Praying for you

    It’s hard for me when people say that the Old Testament doesn’t matter or the law is gone. We are not under the law but it doesn’t mean it’s gone! Same thing with the Old Testament God is the same yesterday today and forever. Thank you so much for this video! I could be working on reading harder books more!

      The law isnt for peace its how we define what sin is. Its Gods will for us to obey for all his people and if you dont obey it you are sinning. 1 john 3:4. Christ even commands us to obey the law of moses and the prophets in matt 23:1-5, 13, 23. But thats conveniently ignored by the majority along with other key verses Prov 28:9; 2 chron 7:14 Speaks volumes. Also that there is one law for all Gods people lev 24:22; ex 12:49

    "Everything in the Bible is supposed to be there." Preach girl! SO TRUE, and yet I don't know if I've ever looked at it that way. I am currently in a season where I've realized if I want to grow in my relationship with the Lord that I have to dive deeper into parts of scripture that are harder to understand. @@acecadet8812 Hi Ace! I am not entirely sure on that, I would have to see what exactly the Bible says! I use this website a lot, and for the most part the Doctrine is from the Bible, of course it is not perfect because humans write the articles, but it is gotquestions.org and they attempted to answer the question, www.gotquestions.org/see-Trinity-heaven.html - whenever I read an article I always compare it to what the Bible actually says! But this may help us as we start to search for the answer in the Bible! :) Blessings to you! Love your question!

    • @emilyhayes5699
      @emilyhayes5699 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ace Cadet that’s hard to know as the Bible actually never uses the word ‘trinity’, it was coined by an apologist called Tertullian.

If I could make a suggestion you should look into down loading LOGOS 7 (it's free in it's basic configuration with 2 translations KJ & FaithLife) but you can purchase others for $9.99 each ( I have NIV and ESV) plus a huge array of other resources. My younger son used LOGOS when studying for his Mdiv in Theology (and still uses it practically every day). Wonderful resource.

    So refreshed to hear you say this. Like people have said here, bible literacy is probably the biggest problem in the church. As God says many times in various ways, my people perish for lack of wisdom.
    I often find it hardest that it's really difficult to have biblical conversations with Christians because most don't know the story. Not even diving into mind blowing truths, but just trying to make connections between how things in the past related to Jesus or us, it's basically impossible because people don't know any of the stories, and have no desire to catch up.

    I love learning languages and one of the reasons why I study them is to read or watch something in its original language. I also studied interpreting and translation. Something always gets lost in translation. It's hard to convey all the nuances of a language exactly into another. So I totally agree that language matters (although I am guilty of never having studied any of the biblical languages). I also really agree with the importance of context, especially when trying to interpret the meaning of a word or passage. Great video! I really like that shirt and want to get it whenever it's available again (:

    You are a huge blessing for me and I loooooooove your videos! 💕💕💕

      Marce Magarin I’m sure reading the Bible in English is a great way to expand your vocabulary but don’t forget you can read the Bible in Spanish too. The Bible is no more special in English than it is in Spanish. After all it originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

    Wow your videos really do come at the right time, every time! Lately I’ve been trying to actually study the Bible instead of just reading it at face value, but it’s really challenging. Thanks for making this video and sharing practical tips to help! God is so good!
    Also more teaching videos would be great:)

    Could you possibly make a video on how you do all of those posters and how you personally made them and maybe some ideas for our own? You did a kind of tour in a past video where you showed them and I really really like them and would love to have something like them around my room to always keep me focused on God. Plus they’re so pretty to look at! Thanks so much (: you’re awesome ❤️

    This semester I am in a Civilization I class and I was mainly excited because we study ancient civilizations and I figured it would help me understand the context of the bible and so far I have only had 2 classes and I already have found ways that the history we know fits into passages in the bible, it has really got my gears a turning. Like historians believe all people once dwelled in one place in Africa and then dispersed to other parts of the world. Hm... does that remind anyone else a little bit of a story in the bible??? it honestly is so cool!!! Right now we are learning about Egypt!

    Lol, such a great video! I'm reading Isaiah right now and it's really tough! I just read the first 30 chapters like a novel, without studying them, underlining almost every sentence and writing in the margins "Why?" or "That's cruel!". But now I'll do some research about the history of Isaiah and look at some comments.
    According to me, the people in the ancient and violent world thought everything bad happening was a punishment from God. In reality it's not God who punishes us (this is still just my opinion). I think the Earth is a battlefield between God and the Devil. And yeah, we, the warriors, whatever side we have chosen, can die or get wounded in some way. We know that in the end the good will win. But some people think that they believe so nothing bad can happen to them. They can be quite disappointed.
    Ohh, I got offtopic... Anyway, now gotta go research.

    • @FarAwayDistance
      @FarAwayDistance  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aww yeah definitely do research! There were times in the Bible when straight up it was God who was punishing people. God is a just God and sometimes that means people get judged or killed for their actions. It seems harsh sometimes but the reason for this is because of the fact that we sinned against a holy and perfect God. I would encourage you to go listen to the video on the Bible Project’s TH-cam channel - on “holiness.” Type in “The Bible Project Holiness” and it should come up. :) It talks about Isaiah 6 in it, and I think you might totally understand that book of the Bible more if you see it!!

    • @annagillette7566
      @annagillette7566 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not every bad thing that happens is punishment for a particular sin (although it is a result of the fall, when sin came into the world) but the Bible is very clear that God is righteousness and just and therefore punishes evil. Sometimes He executes specific judgements against specific people or groups of people in this life as we can see most often in the Old Testament, like when He used the nation of Israel to carry out judgement on nations that were committing child sacrifice and other atrocities, but wether or not judgement is carried out in this life, the Bible is very clear that all will face judgement one day and the only thing that can save us from that judgement is the atoning sacrifice of Christ. This message is woven through the whole Bible but if you want to see it clearly laid out read the book of Romans. If you search the scriptures to find out who God is and what He has to say you will see these things. These doctrines can seem had at first it is worth knowing what you claim to believe.
      If you read the Bible, and if you believe that God does not judge humanity, then you have to come to the conclusion that you do not currently believe in the God of the Bible and either reject the Bible as false or change what you believe. If you struggle with this pray that God will help you understand the truth and seek Him. I certainly will.

    • @molotovmafia2406
      @molotovmafia2406 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@annagillette7566 Thanks! I'm still it the process of seeking God (it's life-long, but still). I think it's ok not to understanding things, if you truly search the answers. The Bible is full of symbolism, wars and history that are hard to understand (especially for a teen like me, fond of human rights, sugar spice, everything nice and no one dies).
      I prayed, revealing my doubts and not hiding them - God can always see them. The next book I will read will be Romans. Thanks for being kind and not saying that I'm a sinner or something.
      Far Away Distance I watched The Bible Project and it was quite cool! I liked the metaphor with the sun. Also that Jesus gets the unclean from the people and they can get in touch with God without being stopped by His holiness and perfection (which will show them exactly how bad they are. They will maybe hate God for revealing their dark side and become even worse. Or maybe will get immediately destroyed).
      My favourite part of the gospels was when Jesus died and the curtain in the temple got torn apart. And the Holy Ghost, the part of God who lives in all the people (God the Father is in heaven, Jesus is in a single human) can connect them with God.
      But there are higher expectations to people. Jesus' speech on the Mountain for example shows that you must not wish evil in your heart, not just not do evil. Otherwise you may get burned by the sun.
      Lol, I wrote a novel again. Sorry, guys! Get some popcorn!

    I think this would be a great topic to make a video on!!!

      Hi, i read your comment and thought i could help. Maybe you should tell the guy that is interested in you that you don’t feel it’s right for you to be together. Or you could say you don’t feel dating him is in God’s plan for you. That way you’re making it clear that you’re referring to him and not all guys in general. Hope this helps

    • @annagillette7566

      DTU Do you mean you read it in random order or just randomly thought the day? Because when I was young I used to just read whatever caught my fantasy, but I didn’t read through it until I got to be a bit older and there is definitely a lot of value in that, since the Bible is a complete narrative. Of course there are still times I go to a specific passage to remind myself of a certain teaching or doctrine that applies to my situation or something going on around me, but now I spend most of my time reading through it either sequentially or chronology, which has really helped me understand God and his nature better
