The 1st Firkins album blew me away too. Space Crickets/Rain In The Tunnel/Deja Blues are some of the best instrumental tracks I've ever heard. Guy is so original in his style and blending so many different genres of music.

I remember his first record it blew my mind I tried to get my cousin to listen to it my cuz played songs like Birds of Fire at house parties in the late 70's but he was tired of guitar soloing and was just into writing alternative pop, so he wouldn't listen. MLF was and is amazing, and his first record the songs were great imo. Great video David.

I remember him at Gearfest and he was playing at Headrush. I was there with Ibanez and I walked through to play my Jem through a Headrush board. I was shocked to see himas well!! Before he started, I requested Cactus Cruz.

Pointless anecdote time: Despite watching Mr. David Brewster for years, my guitar playing buddy still doesn't associate the name with Late Night Lessons. We'll be talking about the artists, the licks, specific episodes, etc, but he somehow refuses to remember the names "David Brewster" or "Late Night Lessons." At some point, his memory got altered in such a way that he has to make sure I'm talking about the same guy by doing a very specific impersonation where, like Shaggy from Scooby Doo, he says, "Hey man..." Mr. Brewster has never talked like Shaggy from Scooby Doo nor has he ever even said those specific words together on camera, but for some reason, my buddy Corey Keith (he might read this comment) insists that "awesome guitar player with the hat and the posters on his walls" is a Hannah Barbara character.
At that time in the early 90s I'd always imagine how cool it would have been if he was the lead guitarist for the Black Crowes , i feel his style would've been perfect for them
I love MLF! His debut album was my best friend for quite a number of years although he would come out later and said he hated the sound and his tone. I'm sure all his fans would disagree with him. Oh and who can forget that candy apple red Yamaha Pacifica?
You must have really loved having the phone conversation with Michael Lee Firkins. It seems that Michael Lee Firkins habits are shifting into different positions that are the next scale degree higher. I like how Randy Rhoads would shift into different positions by using the last note of one position as the "common note/pivot note" and shift into a different position by going into a different mode or scale, its an advanced level that people overlook about Randy Rhoads about "shifting into positions" maybe you can make a video lesson about that.
