Great, from all the effects in the series this is the one I wanted to recreate.
It is exactly what I needed!
Nice & useful tut 🙌
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if you have any extra questions!!
Thanks!! Especially love the shape layer "crop" with feather edges. Needed this for my company anniversary so - super handy!
You are so welcome!
this is absolute fire thank you!! Keep recreating different effects from popular shows and movies
Super good tutorial mate, subscribed! I was thinking of replicating the graphics and animations from the series for practice and I stumbled upon your video, kudos for keeping it interesting and straight to the point.
Thank you so much!! Happy you found this video. And yeah the graphics and the doc as a whole is awesome
Wow man thank you so much for this you have no idea how long I needed this 😭😭 you just earned a new subscriber
Thanks for the sub and the comment!! Much love
TY so much for making this tut. Been messing around with it the last couple of days to try to perfect the feathering and blur
Glad I could provide some value!! Hope you put it to good use
Mate, this is literally just what I needed. Thank you so much. Liked, subbed and feel like I owe you one big time.
Good to hear my guy!! That’s what it’s for, to provide value to the audience !!
Just one question Pete - is there a specific reason you make the actual timeline in Photoshop as opposed to doing the whole thing in After Effects with shape layers? Thanks a lot in advance.
PWL no not really - I guess the main reason would be so I could kinda just go in and change the dates around easier, almost like a master timeline, so it could be repurposed. Having to go back into an AE project and build it all again from scratch might be annoying. I’m sure it’s easy to do in AE, but photoshop is what I used
You’re the real G. O. A. T, I’ve been trying to figure this out. Thanks 🙏🏿
glad i could help lex! lmk if you have any questions!

You the real mvp for this, i'm gonna use it for a 3hr documentary that I'm shooting about the pandemic, this will go perfect to show how things were just one year ago in my city.
Mark Darnell good to see this used for big projects like such!!! Good luck, send me the link when it’s all done!!
@@pete_chalk I will for sure bro. Again thank you very much. I was looking all over trying to find something like this. The way you broke it down was so awesome. You have a sub in me.

Great tutorial, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
amazing tutorial, thanks'!!!
You're welcome!
Cool video! Super helpful! How would you add on multiple positions? I.e. if you want showcase multiple years instead of just the two? Do you make the line into a path?
you could add multiple years onto the timeline and keyframe as such
Nice tutorial Pete! :))
Thank you! Cheers!
amazing tutorial, thank you for this
You're very welcome!
Thank you gentlemen 🍁🇬🇧

Glad to hear that!
ممنونم ازت ❤
Thanks , it was helpful
Glad it helped
muchas gracias realmente me sirvio, saludos de uruguay
de nada!!
Do I have to make a new null layer when I want to add a new image? For example, if you started at 1991 and skipped to 1984, and then wanted to skip ahead to 1986 - when you go back to 1986 the 1991 image shows. And if I add my 1986 image on the timeline and add it to null 1, it blocks the 1991 image at the beginning as well.
cool technique, nice one bro
Appreciate it!
Hey! Awesome tutorial! When I import my timeline it only allows me to use it for 20 fps? I need a longer composition for the amount of dates I have, what would I change in order to make it go for 40 fps? I am new to after effects and trying to figure it out. Or do I need to make the timeline longer in photoshop? Appreciate you!
what is it for? are you making this for social media or what
Thanks!
No problem!
been looking for this tutorial thanks for this man! but I just have a question, is it possible to make this effect in premiere pro? thanks a lot more power to your channel!
thanks for the comments carylle! as far as i know there is not, there might be though in a modified way, I would have to play around with it. Where it gets tricky would be the alpha matte and parents layer parts
@@pete_chalk Thanks for the reply Pete, I tried to recreate it in premiere pro and it is possible. but I have to animate the background picture separately and timed it with the animation. thanks and more power to you!
amazing thanks for this! question - after effects newbie here. How do we get this from after effects into premiere pro?
did you find the answer ?
Bro can I do same photo shop style of time line in after effects???
Tell me the way in how I do
after adding pictures the alpha matt has some parts covering the middle of the picture. I don't know how to get rid of it
hi thank you for this tutorial , for some reason it wont let me save it as a normal photoshop file only a large document or photoshop raw? also when i try to import it into after effects it just says it "exceeds bound limits", do you what i can do to solve this ? thank you!!
did you save it as a psd?
underrated
Darkahrii thank you!!!
@@pete_chalk seriously 692 subs? you make content that not even people with 100k know how to
seriously you deserve more
goodluck!
Darkahrii means more than you know!! I’ll keep grinding. Much love
For whatever reason, when I go to crop and feather it only crops and feathers the left side of the frame. Never the right. Any thoughts? I've tried shifting the shape layer around but that didn't change anything.
I know this is old, but it will most likely being your anchor point not being centred
there's something wrong in my project when I inserting an image. I alpha mart the timeline only to the shape layer, but the image that I've inserted was blocked by the shape layer
is your shape layer right above what youre tryna to alpha matte?
thanks
no problem!
When i try to feather my rectangle, is doesn't do anything... Does anybody have an idea why that would happen?
try feathering negatively if that makes sense
Please do for premiere pro aswel
Hey I don't have After Effects can we do this on premeire pro?
There is a way, although I haven’t tried it
how did you copy and paste both layers?
hold shift when you drag cursor over both then right click and copy then you can hit ccommand V to paste
Hey I was wondering how I could have aduio over the timeline
you can add audio to the timeline in AE, or you can export then slide it into premiere and add audio there, that is how i would do it
@@pete_chalk thxs that cleared some things up
Trying to do this tutorial but the mask isn't transparent once you bring in the image? any tips?
explain a little more in depth, i think i can help ya
@@pete_chalk the shape layer used for the crop edges effect is not transparent once you drop an image in
I have the answer... this is because the black background layer in photoshop needs to be turned off!
Has anyone made an editable template for this timeline effect?
👀
What was the song you used at the end of the video?
the very end?
@@pete_chalk Yes
@@pete_chalk Yea, what is the last song, it is really good!
I still have a black box from the cropped edges when I put a picture behind it...
How would I go about this if my video is supposed to be in 4K?
just multiply the aspect ratios by 4
5:25 I can't see the timeline why ?
Done subcribe! Thank you for the tutorial. U should do a tutorial call 'Netflix Series GFX Tutorial'. 👍
what do you mean? i appreciate the support!
@@pete_chalk I mean, as a beginner with After Effect, your tutorial is really easy to follow and make me proud of myself that I can do something with After Effect 😅. and I saw your tutorial for the Netflix Filthy Rich GFX..I also like that tutorial so maybe in future you can teach us sir the GFX that use in popular series on Netflix cause when I watch something on Netflix I always wonder, "How did they create that GFX"..or something like that. It just a suggestion, I do love your tutorial, Thank you again. U got a supporter and student from Malaysia! 👍
@@muhdyuzir6542 thats kinda what i figured! appreciate that man!! awesome to impact people across the world!
I can't half the lines at 3:27 I don't understand it
I'm having trouble with cropped edges
hey kevin! what issue exactly?
@@pete_chalk I think my AE's messed up. Whenever I apply Cropped Edges.. Wigglerama and Position come up in controls and there's nothing to do with crop :(
how to do this in Davinci
i dont know that program im sorry
TUTORIAL!
CMD+J will duplicate layers.
still only a novice at AE :/
Thanks!
No problem!
