  • A wonderful Channel 9 Sunday Footy Show interview with Rugby League legends - Kangaroos Wally Lewis & Kiwis Olsen Filipaina to promote Olsen's new biography "The Big O - The Life & Times of Olsen Filipaina"
    thebigo.kiwi/
Olsen and Wally were fierce rivals in the 1985 Kangaroos vs Kiwis test series which the Kangaroos won 2-1 but Olsen was awarded Man of the Series in a losing team. Olsen famously outplayed future NRL Immortal King Wally Lewis in a memorable display of brute force and silky skills. Off the field, Olsen and Wally had an incident that created a 35-year-old feud of non-contact that was ended with this interview which showed great respect, self-deprecating humour and ended with an offer for a beer.
Great to see two men putting the past behind them in such a positive way.

I remember as a kid watching these tests.
Wally v Olsen was a huge contest.
Dowling dust up, Wally's hit on Darrell Williams late 80s, Tuuta's knee to Fattys noggin. The 80s were great!

Oh, isn't it terrible? All of those racists Australians! But hang on a minute - he came here in 1980 and lived here continuously up until his death. In fact he spent more of his life in Oz than he did in NZ! So sick of hearing from these whingers, especially the ones who are trying to flog a book. If you don't like the movie, you get up and leave the cinema. You don't sit there for 40 fucking years whinging about it!

  • @AHuri505

Olsen in the early days in the NRL was so racially vilified all Australia should hang their heads in shame
Olsen helped pave the way for Polynesian players, Wally Lewis would not shake his hand after their first test

League was the greatest game ever.
Then superleague came along, the accountants stole the passion, changed the rules and turned it into the most boring game.
I can't even watch it these days.
Bring back the 5 yrd (4 m) offside, let the tacklers rip the ball, let the markers play at the ball, speed the play the ball up bring back the excitement.
Back in the day, you didn't get a free ten meter run. You HAD to offload it, and that is what made the game exciting. You had to take a risk if you wanted to score.
And get rid of the interchange. The big blokes jave the advantage of size early on, and then they start to get tired and the smaller players can take advantage.
With the interchange, as soon as the big fullas gwt tured, they get replaced, so the little fullas are being put out of the game.
C'mon league admins, sort this shit out.
    Who's with me?
