I was there for that game. The full cans mostly weren’t full of beer. It took a good 15 minutes to get to and from the toilets at Lang Park in those days so a lot of blokes, and it was almost exclusively men in the bleachers then would not let an empty can go to waste.
Awesome Andrew Voss abc chanel 9 and fox sports and Mr Lewis and all the amazing big names of league like the lead singer of the band who keep the amazing game and sports pages and magS and books alive and fill the stadiums ♥️never ever get jealous of these amazing people and their service to the game we love
Re the beer can moment. Just further proof that they used to do it differently in Qld. How many people would know that when speedway was run at the Ekka, if the crowd didn't like something that happened during a race, they would jump the fence and stage a sit-in on the track! It happened in the middle of a speedway test match against the Poms. I remember seeing a photograph from that night, of the Australian captain, Chum Taylor, pleading with the spectators to get off the track so the racing could continue. I can't remember how successful he was! 🤣
What a great player. Part of a Queensland team that were absolutely brilliant - but not good enough to beat Hull KR in 1983 but still not bad, not bad at all.
I doubt Wally’s captaincy record for QLD will ever be broken. Great player
This man and the state of origin games put the game of rugby league on the world stage

0:28 I remember they showed this on the Footy show. Michael O'Connor clocks Sterlo with an accidental jab lol

Wally's the best 5/8 I've seen coming from a bloke from Wollongong
The 1982 Kangaroo team was the best I ever saw in 50 years watching rugby league.

He was totally humbled by O for Olly Olsen. Even snubbed Olly after the game
Bungey Jumping off after a game, I reckon any other players would pulled a hamstring.
His best days were at Valleys and schoolboy rugby union before it
What drugs are you on?
Hahahaha
