Nothing ever compares to truth! Doesnt matter what we can come up with in our imaginations, the reality is that humans have a disgusting history and reputation with one another... Dont let the thin veneer of modern civilization fool you either. Humanity is only a few square meals away from the capacity to utterly mistreat one another. We're a very enlightened and quite wonderful species.

I think what really drives home the point how terrible medieval executions and torture are, is to emphasize that being strangled to death or having a clean, quick beheading are actually _comparatively painfree._
I mean, assuming the executioner does a decent job and kills you somewhat quickly, of course. Even burning to death has a decent chance of being less terrible than some of the things seen on this channel, that would mean you'd suffer for days.
Something that kinda freaks me out, most of these punishments happened in front of an audience, so to speak. What was it like living in the middle ages and watching a person being sawn in half or having their entrails being torn out by a crank. What does watching this to people? Did they watch in horror? Did they cheer, thinking justice was done? *Did they watch this for fun?*
    Sheesh.

I could agree yet here we are on TH-cam watching different Medieval torture methods. I've come not to be too surprised at the depravity humans have when it comes to entertainment. There is no known Medieval written or printed evidence of the use of the Pear for other than a gag. Indeed the Pear shown could not have been made In medieval time because metal working technology of the time was not up to its manufacture. No single Torture Museum has verifiable provenance of their Pear exhibits, or indeed for many of their exhibits. Just try asking a Museum Curator or Owner for their evidence !
Look up Wikipedia for further details from where I quote the following - "An early mention is in F. de Calvi's L'Inventaire général de l'histoire des larrons ("General inventory of the history of thieves"), written in 1639, which attributes the invention to a robber named Capitaine Gaucherou de Palioly"

The Spanish Donkey was used on Confederate POWs, where it was known as "Morgan's Mule", for even the slightest breaking of camp rules. Heavy weights were added to the feet and the POW was forced to sit on the mule for two hours every day for a few days under threat of an armed guard, until he fell off from pain and exhaustion. The POW was often made to hold two large bones, one in each hand, to prevent him from using his hands to lessen his agony.

Any time I've thought I heard of the worst possible tortures and execution methods, I am privy to hearing about another horrifically creative account.

Why is so much torture related with religion? Why am I surprised. No matter the religious sect it is there way or the wrong way or torture and death.

For some reason "tickling their feet to make them writhe" made me laugh really hard.
I'm very ticklish and already find being tickled to be tortuous.

Obviously another great video but am I the only one who really missed the trademark "cheers" at the end??? It's one of my favorite parts of every video!

Too much water makes the brain swell and press against the skull. The pressure leads to brain impairment and the victim can stop breathing. This happened a lot in the so called second summer of love when mdma was at its most popular. All the press said ‘you might dehydrate so drink lots of water’. Some mdma users took them at their word and drunk rather too much. Messy!

That's what happened to an English girl called Leah Betts. She took Ecstasy, then tried to flush it out of her system with litres of water. She died in hospital from cerebral odema. Soon after, apparently, the advice for using pills was to drink when you felt thirsty, or one pint per hour. When I heard about what happened to that girl, I felt so sorry fir her. A little more information would have saved her life. She never should have died.

@@DG-iw3yw You actually knew her? I just heard about it years later. She'd be well old now if she'd lived.
