My son and I once had the honor of sitting with Ray Bradbury, and sharing a bottle of wine.
Mr Bradbury had just ended a modest speaking engagement at a public library in Los Angeles. My son (about 12 years old) struck up a conversation with Mr Bradbury while his assistant brought up his car. At some point a bottle of wine was mentioned, so I jumped into my car. Several broken traffic laws went unnoticed as I sped down Ventura Blvd, bought said bottle, and made it back to the library in record time.
A couple of weeks later, my son received a personalized letter, and an autographed movie poster for Fahrenheit 451…in French! 😊

So beautiful. Some years ago I read this story in an anthology of Bradbury's stories. It's wonderful hearing it as a radio play. I loved it then and I love it even more, now. It reminds me of "The God's of Mars" written by Gardner Dozois, Jack Dann and Michael Swanwick.

Wonderfully done with a fantasic story where the planet itself becomes a character, a female character.

Wine instead of water, flying instead of walking, and tigers for anyone who gets too hostile... this planet's definitely no paradise for anyone like me.

Are used to babysit Paul Frees' daughter, Sabrina. She's very smart and very fun to hang out with.

In this story they "fly". The rare dreams I have had about flying, the freedom, seeing everything from above, were always wonderful. In this story, kinda' of a wonderfully naive wish.

That actually gives me a sensible headcanon for this otherwise fantastical story. If all the crew's experiences here were a dream (or in the case of Chatterton a nightmare), it makes more sense than to say the planet has the ability to turn its waters into wine or fly humans with nothing but wind.

R.B. was always great at pointing out misogyny and racism ...
