    CLIMBING THE GRAND TETON, Owen Spalding Route Success!
    Grand Teton National Park is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming, just North of Jackson Hole and South of Yellowstone National park. Grand Teton is known for its exceptional scenery of jagged mountain peaks, pristine lakes, and high desert plains. It's a very popular destination with outdoor enthusiasts as well as photographers of all ages. You've likely seen pictures of the park, even if you didn't know what you were looking at. Grand Teton encompasses over 300,000 acres including the most prominent peaks of the Teton Range. It gets its name from the highest mountain in the Range called the Grand Teton. The Grand is an imposing peak, soaring into the sky like a gigantic shark tooth and reaching an impressive 13, 775 feet (4,199 m). It is a very popular place for mountaineering and rock climbing and thousands attempt to summit each year with varying success. The Grand is an unforgiving mountain, with steep drop offs and very loose terrain. It's least challenging route, dubbed The Owen Spalding route can be climbed without ropes, but is nonetheless dangerous, and any misstep could send you hurtling thousands of feet to your death. Climbing the Grand is not to be approached lightly and competence in mountaineering and climbing is definitely advisable.
    Join us in this video as we summit the Grand in an epic adventure!

    I love it! Great edit. Super well done on the color correction, it looked fantastic and you were able to tell the whole story. Well done! I agree, let's do another.

      Thanks Dan, it was such a blast! My version is definitely a bit long, but I opted to keep it all in so I could look back and remember the whole experience. Have you already done Rainier? I think I want to talk with Matt about fitting that one in maybe next year. We could all go up and then you could ski down while we watch in envy 😜

      @@OurMillionAdventures I am realizing I didn't respond. I have hiked up Rainier on the Disappointment Cleaver Route. I think I did it in 2016.

    Climbed it in 1980 with 3 buddies, 2 of which have passed. One of the highlights of my life. At 68, I drive by the Grand and get a little emotional and miss my youth and my Buds. Such a magical place. Great video.

      Bummed it didn't work out for you to join us Brian. Next time though we will make it happen. I'm going to work on Matt for us to all do Rainier. Maybe we can shoot for next year.

    Wow, OMG! What an adventure, I don't know if I would dare to climb so hard... It scares me a little, I don't know if it's harder to climb or descend... Of course, the views and sensation from there, there is no one who pays that.

    hey man great video! Do you know if the rappel has a fixed anchor? about to give the OS a try this weekend :)

    • @OurMillionAdventures
      @OurMillionAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there are two fixed anchors actually. One is a longer rappel than the other.

    • @wylderfondaw6885
      @wylderfondaw6885 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OurMillionAdventures is a 60m rope sufficient for the rappel?
      I'm looking to do it this summer!

    • @OurMillionAdventures
      @OurMillionAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its 120 feet rap (240 total rope) so a 60M is going to be a bit short. Some have done it with a single 60m rope by staying to the south where the landing point slopes up (and relying on rope stretch). Most people use two ropes to do it though.

    Hey! What gear did you bring for this route?!

    • @OurMillionAdventures
      @OurMillionAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Harnesses, helmets, a belay device and a 70 meter rope were the only specialized pieces of equipment. Depending on time of year you may also want crampons and an ice axe.
