I feel really bad for our House Martins. They have been building a nest outside my window for the past few weeks. Last night I heard a loud thud and smash. I looked outside today and their nest has fallen down and smashed everywhere :( they are back today and I think they are rebuilding it as they are going back and forth again outside my window. Tenacious little buggers.
Chris Churchill I have 2 nests outside of both of my bedroom windows! As annoying as they can be early morning they are lovely little birds! They've deffo had chicks but I am yet to spot them peaking out of the nest.
That's awesome. Mine have rebuilt their nets and had chicks too. I can hear them furiously chirping when their parents come back with food. I read up about them and they are pretty amazing birds.
Maybe they will be back this year, you can put up a ready made nest box for House Martins and the will use it so long as you can keep the sparrows out. The RSPB have good tips on their website
