I agree but where do these protections end is the question. I don't really care about women's sports a whole lot, but to me, an industry that is subdivided by gender should be able to verify that gender how they see fit. One doesn't have a basic human right to play a particular sport. The bathroom issue is a complicated one but is more about how we view bathrooms as a society. Perhaps we need to make restrooms more unisex bc 99 percent of people are just trying to take a leak and not really worried about the gender of the person in the stall next to them.
@@_SunscreenQueen_ this is exactly why puberty blockers were invented.... You required medical intervention due to physical conditions outside the normal growth rate.... Not because you just didn't want puberty
@@IDF_92 you seem to be misinformed. Scientific studies have consistently shown that when someone’s been on hormone treatment for a couple of years, one of the many effects it has on the body is to give a person a level of strength typical for the sex associated with the kind of hormone treatment they’ve received. This is why testosterone is banned as a “doping agent” for female athletes. The only discrepancy from this that’s been discovered after years of repeated, rigorous scientific studies is that trans women seem to have a _slight_ but measurable advantage over cis women in rowing, it’s not entirely certain why this is but height differences may account for it (although they don’t seem to produce a similarly measurable effect in basketball). Therefore, with the possible exception of rowing, there is absolutely no rational reason to exclude trans competitors who’ve received two or more years of hormone treatment.
Trans rights are human rights. That includes rights to have access to proper healthcare, rights to freedom of expression, rights to bodily autonomy. Hope for a world where certain people aren't used as political footballs.
It’s important to distinguish between advocating for universal human rights and redefining societal norms based on subjective identities. Trans individuals, like everyone else, deserve respect, access to appropriate healthcare, and freedom of expression. However, these rights should not come at the expense of reality-based policies or the rights of others, particularly women and girls. Bodily autonomy is a critical principle, but it must be balanced with ethical considerations, especially regarding irreversible medical interventions for minors. Instead of framing this as a zero-sum game, we should work toward solutions that protect everyone’s rights while remaining rooted in biological and material realities, ensuring no group is sidelined or exploited in political discourse.

This past summer, doctors in an ER missed that I was experiencing a complete AV block because they failed to do a simple EKG after I experienced fainting, massive heart flutters and bradycardia. It wasn't diagnosed until the next time I fainted and was taken to a different ER, where they ran an EKG. They immediately rushed me to ICU and scheduled a pacemaker implantation. The AV block should have been caught during the first ER visit. Missing it could have resulted in tragic consequences. I'd like to know where all the public outcry is for the thousands of times similar neglect happens EVERY day across the U.S., where doctors fail to give proper treatment even in life-or-death situations. But, no, worrying whether doctors are using proper judgment only matters when a teen wants hormone blockers for gender dysphoria.
It's pretty simple - conservatives don't care in the least if people are dying from medical malpractice but they really hate the idea of their rigid gendered social hierarchy being questioned. Claiming that being trans is over treated isn't the entire issue, it's the thin end of the wedge to try and get rid of *all* publicly visible differences in sexuality and gender expression, and eventually get rid of it entirely.

Emma very much on the point that these people would not have been in favour of any other civil rights movements I say that to people who want trans women out of women's bathrooms: 60 years ago you'd have argued we need separate bathrooms for black people, I hope you know that
His singular piece of evidence supporting his opinion that it's a trend is that he perceives there to be a disproportionately high percentage of trans kids in urban CA schools. But he fails to acknowledge the fact that families with trans children have been forced to uproot their lives and flee to the few safe states like CA due to care being banned in half the country. When I was coming up there wasn't a single queer kid in a school with 450 students. More correctly stated, there were no out queer kids because it was a sure way to get your ass kicked every day. I'm sure it's different now, but it's not because of social contagion or "indoctrination". It's due to conscious efforts to educate kids in order to reduce bigotry and correct bigoted behavior. This is ultimately what the religious right is so pissed about. Their ability to raise activist bigots who can abuse queer people with impunity has been somewhat curtailed. That is the root of their discontent.
The point people like Maher don't get is that the puberty blockers give kids time to make a decision longer term. So yes 100% of the kids that get them might not need them, that's the same with any treatment but it allows the time to decide if you want to go further in the direction of surgery etc or forget the idea entirely.
one thing that never crosses his mind is the "regret" statistic. like how many people actually regret the decision to be trans? sure there are a few instances of detransitioning because life just got way harder for them due to the societal restrictions placed upon them for being trans, but the statistic is overwhelmingly positive for those that transitioned when in comparison to the suicide rate if they did not make the choice to transition due to the overwhleming restriction and dehumanization yhat comes with it. Trans issues are "popular" because it's meant to be normized in order to PREVENT suicide.

At that time I had no clue what being trans really met or that it was a real thing since this was a year before Kaitlyn Jenner made headlines and my only knowledge was family guy and the Jim Carrey movie which both made fun of trans people. I also was an AMAB kid who was surrounded by almost entirely amab friends who followed very strict masculine personalities. In fact when I originally came out as trans to my family I was 14 just fresh out of my anti-sjw “all trans people are pushy and doing it in an embarrassing way” phase. I was scared back into the closet at that time and came out as non-binary 3 years later in 2020 and now am currently 10 months on estrogen and feeling way more confident than ever, but a lot of ppl in my life act like this is a sudden development when this has been something that’s been obvious for a decade now.
I just don't get this "It's important, but it's not THAT important" angle. If you think an issue is gaining traction and others aren't the reaction shouldn't be to slow down where progress is being made.

It's almost like we're literally just your neighbors like anyone else who just wants peace and basic protections.
It's simpler and easier to give people what they need then forget about it instead of spending half your time being bigot obsessively hating on people who aren't like you. Trans people are people, and I'd really rather not have to hear and think about them so much.
Nah, equality is cringe, I should control the entire world because everything is about me
I agree but where do these protections end is the question. I don't really care about women's sports a whole lot, but to me, an industry that is subdivided by gender should be able to verify that gender how they see fit. One doesn't have a basic human right to play a particular sport. The bathroom issue is a complicated one but is more about how we view bathrooms as a society. Perhaps we need to make restrooms more unisex bc 99 percent of people are just trying to take a leak and not really worried about the gender of the person in the stall next to them.
misleading. "basic protections" translates to castrating kids that no other group wants.
The nerve of them.

Castrating 15 year old isn’t a right.
Pretty sure they all have access to those rights now...

If it is a trend then its nothing to be this worked up about because trends pass and governments should have no need passing laws against trans.
The point people like Maher don't get is that the puberty blockers give kids time to make a decision longer term.
So yes 100% of the kids that get them might not need them, that's the same with any treatment but it allows the time to decide if you want to go further in the direction of surgery etc or forget the idea entirely.
